2:40 PM
@MarcGravell The chat link is currently displaying Could not access chat. on the SE sites

Q: Error accessing chat on Apple.SE.

George EdisonThis is best described by a screenshot from the right hand side of this page: There seems to be something wrong here. On other SE sites, that area lists active chat rooms and users.

@rchern Thanks. DNS seems to have been a problem recently

yeah

3:51 PM
@cross I was working with Zypher to fix that at the time you posted that. Should be fixed now- let me know if still #fail

4:13 PM
I think I've mentioned this, but I may be imagining that.
Feature request: can toggling frozen/deleted rooms not clear the filter?

@rchern Sounds like a job for GREASEMONKEY!
Speaking of which, I need a userscript that automatically replies with that any time a post begins with "Feature request"

Oy.

4:32 PM
Anyways, that's the problem with userscripts. It can't be the answer for everything. It shouldn't be the answer for everything.

Can someone pin the feature request for me?

@rchern You mean we can't build a SO clone as a userscript?

Haha

Feature request: Add a way for Marc to pin things from his iPod
@MichaelMrozek Sounds like a job for GREASEMONKEY!

@TimStone, we just need to take Josh's implementation of the api and build an entirely new web client. (;

4:44 PM
My "please pin..." API seems to be working fine

hahaha

@rchern I think we can get it done in a few hours, no problem.

Now; can any of you prove to me that you aren't robots? Eh? Eh?

I'm not in blue, so clearly I'm a mere mortal. :P

|:
If I was a robot, I'd have known chat passwords. (;

4:46 PM
@rchern Your perfectly straight smile doesn't do much to disprove your roboticness. :P

ha

Only our dev site is password protected AFAIK

silly verb tenses.

I maintain that password protection makes no sense when everyone is already logged in -- you just put the password prompt there to frustrate us

It was only o avoid support questions on an unreleased site.
Because "you shouldn't even be there yet; b****r off" often offends ;)

4:58 PM
Hahah

1 hour later…
6:05 PM
Feature request: Join all my favorite rooms automatically when I enter one of them
I'm laaaaaaaazy.

@Brant You mean like a "rejoin all" button?

Hmm, I didn't know that was there.
Feature request withdrawn!

Automatically != click a button
But for what it's worth, I have chat.stackexchange.com/chats/join/favorite as my bookmark.

6:20 PM
Oh, that works even better. Feature request double-withdrawn.

I'd still prefer not having to click a button

That's true, I am pretty darn lazy

@rchern Make it your homepage

Huh?

Oh, I didn't realize there was a button on that page. Never mind
Sounds like a job for GREASEMONKEY!

6:27 PM
grumbles

6:37 PM
Feature request: Can we show pin/unpin in the normal message history, instead of a special entry at the top? Possibly star/unstar too, unless those are supposed to be anonymous

1 hour later…
7:45 PM
test
somebody complaining on chat.stackoverflow that there's an error over here, guess not

test, test

PING? PONG!

3 hours later…
10:48 PM
what error?
happy to investigate if there is more detail

@MarcGravell Someone was getting weird redirects, but then they flushed their DNS cache and it fixed itself, if it's the same person I'm thinking of. :)

Ah, probably a legacy from the DNS snafu the other night. chat was a victim there, not the perp.

consoles poor chat

thanks @Tim; it hurts... but your soothing has made me happier.

We have to make sure that you're feeling well so you can handle the additional burden of our userscripts. ;)
Heh :P

10:55 PM
I live at the server. I don't see these "user scripts" of which you speak. To be honest, I'm starting to have self-doubts... am I real? Oh woe...

By the way @Marc, as far as the auto-complete goes, does it simplify accented characters for the purposes of matching like is standard for SE notifications? e.g. name will suggest ńămë?

Indeed it does

As much as I enjoy peeking into the underbelly of the minified chat JavaScript, is there an easy way to go about that? I've added comment auto-complete to the SEModifications userscript (the one for the actual site), but I haven't put in anything to handle that scenario.

@TimStone I was getting an infinite redirect loop yesterday, I cleared the cookies and it went away.

@Brant Ah, alright :)
