@GriffinEvo - The concept of conflict appear to go back to Bateman 1948 but after digging a bit, Rice 1984 seems to be the earliest use of the term that I could find. He uses the term a lot in subsequent pubs but never cites other work in association with the term, leading me to believe he coined it.
