12:59 AM
One more hour that I can cram more game development in...

1:10 AM
Yeah, :)

Let's see if I can close all of my known UI bugs in that time.

Good luck! I'm trying to debug why my bot thinks there's something infront of him when there's not

1:27 AM
I have a lot of little thing that have annoyed me, but I haven't bothered fixing. I think this is a good time to fix those things.
None of them should be hard to fix, I hope...

Both are programmed to:
while(true)
    MoveForward()
if Bumped -- as in they hit something
        TurnLeft()
    end
end
The one on the left updates first, and thinks the second one is in its way when it's facing north. weeee

I bet the logic bumped is off.

It looks like MoveForward is trying to query the incorrect location
We'll see
Hah, that was obscure, kinda

@IcyDefiance trying to teach my long-time support bud to get ss
he NEVER gets it

It was a mixup between Cetre X and Y coordinates and Top/Left coordinates. I was using Centre as Top/Left, but still using the correct width/height, therefore it was "seeing" the other bot as taking up the proposed space

1:37 AM
he's even a decent support. been as high as silver 2

1:59 AM
#Almo lol, below gold it probably works fine because no one wards well anyway, so red trinket is less useful and he can just use yellow. that's a bad habit to get in though, and he'll only be able to take drag/baron if he kills the enemies instead of trying to sneak it or set up ambushes.
also on the subject of league, I just had an idea today to make a theorycrafting tool. mainly because Yi is weird with all the passive on-attack and on-hit crap and it's impossible to objectively compare builds without making a whole damn program for it.

2:16 AM
Sadly, I didn't manage to fix all of my UI bugs. Mostly because I found non-UI bugs. Still, I think I've got most of those resolved for now, next time I'll continue with the UI bugs.
For now, 'night.

@IcyDefiance hahah cool

Hello, I am having issues with conceptualizing a function for my program.
I am attempting to create a function which returns a list of char* strings (file names contained in an archive) to a DLL caller.
Can I simply make a function "char** fileList()"?
This function would create a char* names = new(char*[fileCount]) and set each index = to a const char* string.
Or should I do some return by value method where I hand copy every character and return?

DH.
10:54 AM
@OMGtechy And did it help? Because here they give you discounts only if you pay without parcel

@TorbenC You can't simply return char**; you won't know how many strings there are in the array.

@AlexandreVaillancourt I have another variable that contains that number, fileCount.

Q: C++ DLL Passing char* Strings

TorbenCI am designing a program that will allow a DLL plugin to use an interface for loading and creating an archive file. The interface has a function which enables the DLL to get a list of all file names within the open archive. I am trying to design this function, the strings are stored as const cha...

It hass 2 downvotes :(

Yeah; you did not show any effort.
Open your favourite IDE, write a program and test it out.
you'll want to use the parameter functions for that

I've been researching for hours :(

DH.
11:10 AM
> test it out
You probably won't get downvoted if you say "I tried X and Y but none worked"

The developer of Rhythm Doctor has created another rhythm game: fizzd.itch.io/a-dance-of-fire-and-ice
It's pretty clever!

user92578
Last class before holiday

DH.
Lend me one holiday day :c
I can't take anymore this shitload of problems here at the company

user92578
lol sorry GunHero needs all mine

DH.
11:20 AM
Damn

@DH. Time to fix it, or to look for another job?

DH.
Ah well... here is a good place to work
The problem is that another time something wasn't good analyzed before reaching my end

DH.
And now I need to make a big dump of duplicate code because it needs to be finished sometime soon, no time to take a closer look for a better solution

That's frustrating a bit
How would you feel about having no deadlines?

DH.
11:32 AM
A bit better
I could think twice when the analyst request something to see if it's really worth doing the way he says

Do you think you would ever finish?

DH.
Ofc, I'm not OCD or any of the kind to ever reach the "perfect solution"

Hehe, that's not what I'm implying :)

DH.
I work on a BI product, we must be careful with what we do to avoid number errors and to minimize the memory usage

It's just that..
Originally, Parkinson's law is the adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion", and the title of a book which made it well-known. However, in current understanding, Parkinson's law is a reference to the self-satisfying uncontrolled growth of the bureaucratic apparatus in an organization. == History == Articulated by Cyril Northcote Parkinson as part of the first sentence of a humorous essay published in The Economist in 1955 and since republished online, it was reprinted with other essays in the book Parkinson's Law: The Pursuit of Progress (London, John Murray...

DH.
11:34 AM
Well, we all have some programming hobbies and we continue to work on them right?

I hope I did :P

DH.
Well, I stopped for the time being because of my thesis, but without it I was working on it lol

It's for a master's degree?

DH.
No no, just graduation
Computer Science

Oh, ok, here we have 3 degrees: bachelor, that you just get by going to school, master, which you get once a "mémoire" has been accepted (it's like a small thesis), then you have the doctorate degree, which you obtain once a thesis is accepted.

DH.
11:44 AM
Well, to receive the bachelor you need to do something called like "Course Conclusion Thesis" which isn't like a real thesis, you aren't doing something 100% new, most of the time you just take an idea and improve it
Which is my case: I'll use accelerometer to fall detection(which was already made) on persons with needs like the elderly to notify who takes care of him/her
I'll try using espruino pico, I hope it doesn't break during the tests lol

Ha, ok, that's interesting!

DH.
My first problem with it is the price
I'll pay 50$ for the board + 20$ for the accelerometer, and importing means doubling it's price with taxes

Yeah, that's where they get you...
Couldn't you use a phone?

DH.
Good that I've been saving some money with the whole crisis thing
Yeah I could try that, but my "advisor teacher" has been insisting to try with that board

Ha kk.. Not sure why; perhaps it's more energy efficient...

DH.
11:56 AM
You know, this whole IoT hype stuff, making with a board can make a work like this get an article published in the academic media

DH.
Internet of Things

Ah, yeah. I think it would be 'easier' to make it with a phone, but probably not 'as good'..

DH.
Would make my life easier, but the thesis wouldn't as much as appealing with a board :P
I'm already making a testing with my Android, but ofc, writing the thesis is way more important right now because I need to make the first version of the proposal in 2 weeks

Oh, yeah, deadlines, again :P

DH.
12:08 PM
cries
I want to have some time for myself goddamit

12:19 PM
Get your degree, you'll have some after that; then you'll get family, where you will no longer have any time for yourself, then the kids will leave the house, then you'll have lots of time, but no energy :P

DH.
God don't say like that or you will convince me of suicide

It's going to be just fine :P
Priorities shift, don't worry :)

12:55 PM
There's a brief window for yourself, after you've graduated, but before you have kids, if you do things that way.
Or if you have your kids early, you might have a bit of energy left when they leave the house.

user92578
FREEDOM

I know it looks horrible, and that's the next thing I intend on fixing, but...

user92578
Cool!

user92578
Going to do smooth tile mapping?

Distantly.
The thing I'm working on now is getting more realistic city names. I just grabbed a bunch of random numbers before.
With longer names, the black text doesn't look so good, but I'll fix that. And probably make the names grow as well.

1:11 PM
Hi
help me please
what is the better:
dispatch all commands per frame:
void Update()
{
    while (peer.DispatchIncomingCommands()) { continue; }
    while (peer.DispatchOutgoingCommands()) { continue; }
}

or dispatch one in&out command per frame?
void Update()
{
    peer.DispatchIncomingCommands();
    peer.DispatchOutgoingCommands();
}

user92578
depends what you want

user92578
what if there are multiple commands generated per frame?

@Tyyppi_77 no, if queue contain commands, it sended in next frame

user92578
What I'm saying is that what if the game just keeps on generating more than two commands per frame

user92578
First you're 1 command behind

user92578
1:14 PM
Then 2 commands

user92578
Then 3 commands

user92578
And so on

true
first variant is better in this situation

user92578
All though you should rename the method to DispatchIncomingCommand

the treasure goblin, mac spell check

1:17 PM
If you have, say, 10 commands that come per second all at once, the second might be better.
I suspect you want to have a maximum number of commands to process per update, depending on how computationally intense they might be.

i will try first and seccond variant in my game

user92578
1:35 PM

user92578
Grenades now stick to characters

neat
i like the throw anim

user92578
Thanks!

there's just something really effective about it

1:47 PM
How do they stick?

user92578
if (entityCollision && entityType == CHARACTER) { setPositionToCharacterCenter(); waitForTimerExplosion(); }

DH.
What would happen if 2 enemies are near each other then?
Oh nvm
You stop the collision detection with waitForTimerExplosion() probably

user92578
Yeah

How will you rationally explain how they stick in the manual? "Specially equipped with a human-radiation magnet!"

user92578
Probably

user92578
1:58 PM
Or super-glued with glue that only sticks to that sweat saturated evil enemy skin

Are they really evil? Or they're in only for the money?
:p
But that's a viable alternative!

user92578
They actually aren't evil, they are forced to patrol

DH.
So the main the character is evil?

user92578
no, not really

user92578
the evil mastermind is taking over the world by forcing people to "work" for him

user92578
2:06 PM
the main character is "freeing" those people from their service

user92578
if the enemies haven't killed anyone

user92578
they get to go to heaven

user92578
(hence the angels)

DH.
This remembers me a bit of the drama in Metal Gear Revengeance

But will the hero go to heaven? If he kills people?

user92578
2:12 PM
not sure yet

user92578
maybe, because he does it for the good

DH.
But he does it in the bad way

user92578
true

DH.
He kills people so the mastermind behind all of this stops people from being his slaves

At the end of the game, unlock a couple of features that would allow him to go through the game without killing anyone!

DH.
2:13 PM
But he kills innocent people anyway

(adds a replay value to your game!)

user92578
yeah maybe

DH.
This is basicly what I said: the dilemma the protagonist has in Metal Gear Revengeance is that he thinks that all the cyborgs are bad because they chosen to, while it's not true, they became cyborgs to abandon the poor life or because they lost an arm or leg
Then a for moment he starts to think if he really is doing justice by killing people who aren't bad
And then he concludes that he must to, to reach the villain so he can stop doing this

user92578
Yeah basically the current idea is that the evil mastermind comes, and forces everyone (basically the military) to work for him

user92578
GunHero, a soldier, starts to work for him, but he can't (execute someone, kill a child, something like that) so he is put to jail

user92578
2:19 PM
That's when the game starts

user92578
You escape from the jail and decide to kill the evil mastermind and free the world

user92578
There is actually a tutorial level before that, from GunHero's military training boot camp

2:42 PM
anyone know of any good articles on ECS with unreal?

3:24 PM
beautiful sounds from the heart is why people are allowed to smoke around some non smokers
An arbiter in hell once told me that

2 hours later…
user92578
5:49 PM

user92578
Stickies to boxes

user92578
Player not included because of the awkward throw-angle

What about just having it explode on contact?

user92578
I think it's cooler that it locks in for a moment

5:55 PM
Okay, just tossing the idea out.

user92578
Yeah please always do

I was talking with someone this week who is known for coming up with crazy ideas, and let that person know that it's a good thing to come up with crazy ideas, just don't be too attached to them.

@Tyyppi_77 Nice :D

DH.
I wouldn't call a stick grenade a crazy idea, it's cool the concept because a lot of games either will let your grenade out or it will explode on contact(which doesn't make sense, it's a grenade, not a missile)

I'm not calling it crazy, BTW.
If anything, I'm calling my idea crazy. Many of my ideas are a bit crazy...

Jon
6:23 PM
Yes . Your ideas.

user92578
Aight killer enemies no longer get to heaven

Jon
lol
such a religious nod

user92578
6:38 PM
lol

Jon
6:56 PM
add mourners

Maybe I'll do a simple graphic instead of buttons to demonstrate that the various buttons are buildings in a city.
I will eventually, but maybe sooner than later.
Meanwhile, it's time to really figure out what I'm doing with the city names...

Will make the text a bit bigger too.

Jon
HAVRE

user4704
I drove through Havre de Grace every weekend for years.

Jon
7:10 PM
its pronounced Hah-Vrrrrr-ehhh

Nice.
I've just been grabbing names of ports, I've set it up so all I do is put the names into a text file and they are randomly used in the game.

Jon
cool
I always wanted to write a name generator

Port de Montréal, sti!
You have to have a mafia chapter there...

Jon
Halifax Port

It's not much of a name generator...

7:13 PM
Port-au-Prince?

Jon
Port jgallant

My favorite in the list: Little Egg Harbor

DH.
Porto of Santos, biggest of Brazil, and one of the top 10 in the world IIRC

Jon
turkey

DH.
7:14 PM
The biggest one in the world is in China IIRC

I've still got a bunch of work to getting a better list of ports, but the list I have will do for now.

@Jon It's Little Egg, shouldn't it be quail?

Jon
little eggs are quail eggs
or robins
or the coveted white breasted titty pecker
why do birds have such perverted names?

Little Egg Harbor Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 20,065, reflecting an increase of 4,120 (+25.8%) from the 15,945 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,612 (+19.6%) from the 13,333 counted in the 1990 Census. The 2010 population was the highest recorded in any decennial census. == History == === Founding === Originally part of Burlington County, Little Egg Harbor took its name from the portion of a bay called Egg Harbor (known today as Little Egg Harbor) by the D...

Jon
The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central and Northern Asia, and parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters. Until 2005 this species was lumped with numerous other subspecies. DNA studies have shown these other subspecies to be distinctive from the great tit and these have now been separated as two distinct species, the cinereous tit of southern Asia, and the Japanese tit of East Asia...

7:18 PM
What I'm going to have to do, and it's probably going to take some work, is do some research into what the major ports were in the 1600s-1800s in the world. That will take some work, but...

It was a way for stuckup ppl to validate who was really stuck up among their friends..

@Tyyppi_77 cool

Jon
@PearsonArtPhoto do it.
@DeNiSkA is that uranus?

@Jon yup

Jon
that was the name of my first game

7:21 PM
woah!!
did you launch it

Jon
i thought it would be funny if the U and R ships exploded
naw, i abandoned it but i still have the original source.
i'd rewrite it if I had to do it again.. a lot was learned from that project.
learnt

coooooooooooll

Jon
fun fact, uranus is mainly composed of methane
some speculate that there may be rivers of diamond

Don't light up a match!

yup

DH.
7:24 PM
Which means that Trump can explode a planet if he wants by succeeding in sending a missile to there

Or light up a match.

Jon
Send a probe out there to light a match, lol

heheeeee

Jon
unfortunately, you would need oxygen for a fire to have a reaction there
so we need to send a ton of perrier air out with it

anyone having demo, i want to see!

Jon
7:26 PM
i took mine down

@Jon where?

Jon
what ?

demo of your game

Jon
My game demo -- i took it down as the last build was buggy on webgl

oh! :-)

Jon
7:28 PM
i'll put it back up -- but ignore the ui
its in the process of a overhaul -- the preview images don't work

OKay :D

Jon
i need to move them to resources and i have been lazy

this room is far better than SO rooms

Jon
ehhh yeah

they are damn humilating especially lounge<c++>

Jon
7:31 PM
tell me what you think
everything that you think
the first tutorial text is wrong
i must have messed it up
it should say "Orange can be touched"

yes!(but my slow internet)
game is really cool

Jon
yeah, the levels are messed up when you click next
it keeps skipping levels
its all bugged up

ya! i reached lvl18 lol!!

Jon
yeah you are not doing it in order :)
but yeah, thats the game
i was heavy into the UI stuff so its a little bugged up at the moment

lol! lvl 18 is hard

Jon
7:38 PM
:)
the par is wrong

21

Jon
i need to redesign 21 a little bit
its too easy

"YOU ARE A LOSER"
this makes me angry ;(

Jon
haha too harsh?
I also have "You are a loser" in my tripeaks clone, lol

haha
let me advertise this demo a bit

7:43 PM
This game is bad for my ego. :(
"Are you this bad on purpose?"

Jon
@DeNiSkA actually don't
not yet anyways

hmm! ok, as your wish

Jon
That "You are a loser" is actually from Futurama
Fry is looking for a winning Slurm ticket, opens a bottle and looks at the bottom and it says "You are a loser"
I thought that was hilarious

jon increase difficulty of lvl26

Jon
Good point.
noted

7:50 PM
after finishing lvl99 keep a button that exits not next button

Jon
i'll change it to you're
yeah, there are only 97 levels in that demo right now

lol

Jon
missing moving platforms levels

lvl36 very hard, how to do?

Jon
it is easier than it looks

7:53 PM
@Jon God I love that show so much

Jon
@DavidFreitag have you ever watched Rick and Morty?

@Jon I've seen a few episodes

woah!!!!!!!!

Jon
I need to rewatch the last season before the next one starts :)
but yeah, futurama -- i watched every episode like 10 times
that slurm factory episode is possibly my favorite

bye!! need to go..
