12:00 AM
I don't think that really works for MMOs

yeah
this is like a kid-wants-to-do-mmo syndrome gone wrong
(if you ask me)

Well, considering the fact that making it will cost much more than $2mm. I don't know if asking for $300k would be good.
We have no way of even making a vertical slice of a vertical slice.

how the hell did that FEAR developer get into this

Jon
My main concern is that you sound like you have no problem burning through 2 million dollars

12:02 AM
you'd think with his experience in the industry he'd understand $2 mil is unattainable

Jon
yeah.. slow the fuck down
start smaller

He's experienced with games, not crowdfunding

@Jon good point

@Noctrine This sums it up pretty well.

12:03 AM
2 Million isn't too much to burn through

@MikolajMarcisz watch this, related to what Jon said
it's about the top 10 mistakes beginners make in entrepreneurship

I will add it to my todo list 1:35 is too long for 2 AM

one of them is getting a huge budget and burning through it all, as fast as possible

Jon
i'm outta here dudes, later

Normal people, and people in business see money different.

12:06 AM
Alex, what do you mean by burning it through?
Spending $2 million dollars? Or getting to the $2 mil barrier?

you're asking for $2 million dollars, and you seem like you already have a plan to spend them
$2 mil is a huge amount
so if you will watch the video, you will see that you sort of look like someone saying

Do you know who is needed to make an MMORPG?

MAN WE'VE GOT ALL THIS SHIT THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IT'S GOING TO BE SO EXPENSIVE WE NEED $2 MIL FOR IT OTHERWISE WE WON'T GET ANYWHERE
WE NEED THIS AND THAT AND THAT OTHER THING
I don't, sorry, I'm not trying to tell you what's needed to make a mmo
I'm trying to tell you you're asking for too much and you should not do a mmo
at least not a 3D MMO w/ player generated content
you know Blizzard was rich as fuck before they started working on WoW

Yeah
Got your point

and your game seems to be more complex than WoW

12:11 AM
Have a look at the video; Im going to sleep.

with all that player generated stuff
yeah me too

Bye
Have a good one :)

cya
more people should choose the way of alphafunding
asking for $2 mil upfront when you're not Brian Fargo is absurd
jeeze
night

if we have on more vote
then all three of us can win jam.

12:57 AM
anyone know which mario party has the bowser hud image that "fills up" ?
lol
it's bowser's head

1:21 AM
Cool story: the Microsoft benefits page is down :|

1:38 AM
That's lame. How are MSs benefits? I hear really good things about them/

2:22 AM
does admob put a cap per device?

@Pip your entry in the 2014 highlights says that you founded the group in future, 25th of this month

I kind of wish that Alex wouldn't always have his avatar set to an anime character. I am starting to picture him as an anime character.

Also why it's always a female anime character

@Lasse I am actually starting to picture him as a female anime character.

@AlexM. We are wondering, why you are a female anime character?
Well, I'm a penguin
Not sure if it's any better, do you think I'm a penguin?

2:34 AM
@Lasse With a very pointy nose. Still better than being a female anime character. But then again, I'm not even an animate object, so I won't judge.

Well, I do like fish

Pineapple.

Pineapple belongs in a pizza

Blechhh
Sweet and salty flavors should never be mixed.

Oh but yes they should

2:36 AM
Well, sometimes, but I don't think that most flavors should be mixed.
@Lasse Well, I do like panda express' orange chicken, but still.

They work well together don't they
Have you tried Peking Chicken?

Maybe.
I don't know.

It's sweet and sour with some chili seasoning

Doesn't really sound the greatest, but I could try it.

oh wait
I think I'm mixing it up with something now

2:39 AM
I do like sweet and salty flavors mixed if it is in the right proportions.

It's cantonese chicken I'm talking about
Never try peking chicken in a restaurant, it takes ages to make the dish
I once got it, and everyone else were done eating before I got mine

Panda is a buffet, so it wouldn't really matter then.
Ok, so I just learned about Umami.

Whats Unami

I spelled it wrong.

Oh Umami

2:41 AM
It's one of the flavors that the tongue can taste.

Yes

@Lasse Here is a summary of our discussion:
Alex is a female anime character.
You're a penguin.
I'm an inanimate object.
Sweet and salty shouldn't be mixed.
But they actually should.
Peking chicken is sweet and sour with some chili seasoning.
But it's actually cantonese, not peking chicken.
Peking chicken takes forever to cook in a Chinese restaurant.
Umami is a flavor.

That is a great TL;DR
I love finnish culture and language, we have a word for ascending intoxication and we describe it as a pleasurable feel
For some reason I thought about looking up if english has a word for that
But it doesn't!

Probably not.

Someone has translated it as "buzz"

2:50 AM
English is like C++. Except C++ doesn't change keywords because people were spelling them incorrectly.

How would you describe pleasure in C++?

Interesting.
C++ can't really describe emotion.

AIDAN o/

AFRONIO!!!

!!!!!!!!

2:53 AM
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

user4704
@ClassicThunder Quite good.

@JoshPetrie Lasse asked how you describe pleasure in C++. Any idea?
I don't really think that you can.
Since computers are emotionless.

C++ certainly isn't pleasure in itself too

computers are currently emotionless.
I mean you could probably program emotions.

2:55 AM
It's hard to say what an emotion is though.

I need to wake up in an hour :(
Only got 3 hours of sleep tonight

@Lasse did you pull an all nighter or something?

Great day ahead

@AidanMueller which means you can just make something up and call it happiness, and if it seems close enough to what feels like happiness to us, then people will accept it.

@IcyDefiance OK. cout << "I am happy I am happy I am happy" << endl;

2:56 AM
@Grey No, I tried to sleep, but got only 3 hours
Then I woke up, and couldn't sleep any more

@Lasse man that's terrible

I would be more patient if life was a text adventure. I could just wait all the time.
@Grey What do you define as pixel art?
Because I kind of feel like I am cheating.

dude, if people say minecraft has 8-bit graphics, there is no possible way you can cheat at pixel art

@IcyDefiance What do you mean?
I never said 8-bit (although most people probably don't even know what 8-bit is).

it was mostly a joke.
but really if it looks like pixel art, you can call it pixel art.

3:02 AM
Technically 8-bit is 11,000,000 colors.

Nowdays using 8 bits to draw colors is like what my engine is doing now, using just 3 faces to draw a cube
I have no idea what's wrong
I send 36 vertices to the gpu, and tell the gpu to draw them
and I get 3 triangles

I've redone the cube generation code twice now

@IcyDefiance Does this look like pixel art (WIP)?

And I've confirmed by debugging that it should be correct

3:05 AM
@AidanMueller vOv

I guess I'm gonna go have some breakfast

@Lasse Go buy one of these so you can figure out the problem with your code:
@IcyDefiance vOv?
What?
Oh. Never mind.

lol I know very little about art, let alone the genres of it, but the thing you're worried about seems very similar to the "real programmers" argument.
have you done what you set out to do? yes? then it's good.

@IcyDefiance Thanks for the analogy, now I can get back to work.

3:25 AM
I really should try this:
Rubber duck debugging, rubber ducking, and the rubber duckie test are informal terms used in software engineering to refer to a method of debugging code. The name is a reference to a story in the book The Pragmatic Programmer in which a programmer would carry around a rubber duck and debug his code by forcing himself to explain it, line-by-line, to the duck. Many programmers have had the experience of explaining a programming problem to someone else, possibly even to someone who knows nothing about programming, and then hitting upon the solution in the process of explaining the problem. I...
Well. I'm going to go. BYEEEE!

I do that all the time

3:41 AM
@AidanMueller Pixel Art is the hand placement of 1x1 pixels using image manipulation software. It is very similar to Okami the only difference being pixel art allows you to zoom in and out.
According to definitions I have read

3:55 AM
I do that too, except I use random friends in skype as rubber ducks
Or IRC
I used to do that for some friends in facebook too but they started saying "oh no not again" so I stopped it for them

4:09 AM
I will sell my soul to be a better programmer *orders rubber duck from Amazon.
@JohnMcDonald I think its between you and me now, game jam, the one last vote will determine who will be the victor!! BLOOD THIRSTY BATTLE BEGINS HERE.

Oh it's your game
Why did you post it with alt?
Meh, gotta go, and I need to take this computer with me. There goes my uptime :(

it's not alt, but somehow whenever I do anything its on that account name.
c ya.

ttyl

5:07 AM
@BlueBug Oh cool. You did 2048^3?

aye.

@Grey HEllo

3 hours later…
9:58 AM
bounty is coming...

Jon
10:41 AM
so basically if you want to be great, you have to put effort into it?
damn it.

Pip
@Lasse thanks Lasse, I meant March :P

10:58 AM
IMO, putting effort launches you forward but, not necessarily everyone needs to put the same amount of effort to reach the same greatness; some people may need less/more effort. Especially more so in things that can be innate; art / math maybe.

Jon
I just spend the last hour of my life looking for online courses I'm forced to take
Found one of the 5

but programming and computer... I don't know. I feel like no matter how many hours I put into it, I am yet to be compatible, but again I am only three years into programming.

Jon
i'm so damn annoyed right now, I want to destroy something

#the_lore_of_destroyer_of_the_world_Jon #howItAllStarted

Pip
@Grey you should post about MalwareTycoon on your website (don't forget to link to our post).

Jon
11:03 AM
I guess programming is slightly different... but I think the infographic pretty much just tries to point out that if you want to succeed in something you need to put the effort in
And try to have a balance
Charles Darwin "Lies awake in bed solving problems" -- I do this all the time.
Benjamin Franklin, was a douchbag.
He worked at the patent office, stealing ideas from people his entire life.
As if a single person could have invented all these things, the guy was a sham.

Pip
lol

Jon
"Benjamin Franklin Exposed: A unauthorized biography." - Jgallant
hahahaha
Disney's Pooh meets Star Wars universe

Pip
LOL
I have to go, school :/
cya

Did you just tell your school you had to go?

Jon
11:14 AM
lmao

i fail. typo, again. OTL. English is too hard.

Jon
So anyone else heard of this friggen thing?
YOu can steal a server's SSL keys in memory (not traceable)
Then you can pretend to be a secure server, from anywere
And this has been like this for over 2 years now
So, if your keys were stolen a year ago...
You can update open SSL, but it will not fix the issue.
YOu need to recycle your keys
This might be one of the biggest internet flaws I have ever read.
Someone wrote a key extractor, and it has a 100% success rate.

HI @Pip
oh. He gone to school

Jon
wow
guys
don't log into anything through SSL today
banks, yahoo mail, etcc

why

Jon
11:24 AM
You can watch people log into yahoo mail live right now
user/pass exposed in plaintext to everyone
this is the worst bug in the history of the internet

lol glad I never bothered to update OpenSSL
still running 0.9.8o baby :)

Jon
s3.jspenguin.org/ssltest.py
link to a python script that scrapes the keys
if you want to test against your own server :)
(or a shared host if you want to snoop)
And for the system admins at large corporations

thanks :)

Jon
I used to be a sys admin for service canada
so it sucks to not have those rights anymore...
today .

And I've confirmed, 0.9.8o not vulnerable :)
If your servers are still running old debian, you're in luck

Jon
11:32 AM
LOL
if your servers are running anything shipped in the last year, you are probably affected
or 2 years even
strictly openssl

How much do you bet someone slipped that bug in there on purpose?

Jon
I wouldn't be suprised
the open source community needs more auditors
There is a diff of the fix

I've seen some really nasty hacks get slipped into open source software, someone managed to get one in the linux kernel by replacing an == with just = in a kernel level root test

Jon
This is most likely an attack.
A very smartly placed piece of code that provided a backdoor to major infrastructures around the world.
And it was impossible to notice.

Lol gives me some validation though! More things to point out when people get pissed at me for taking so long auditing code

11:52 AM
@Jon And that's why I'm not upgrading mine until about 2020 (they're running RHEL 5, support ends 2021).

Jon
I'm downgrading to Win3.1
Hell... why stop there, gonna dust off my old commodore64
Bet you can't hack my c64

Nah, that would be silly. Some stable server OS which is still supported is just fine though.

Jon
wait...
RH5 support ends in 2021?

Yes.

Jon
wow, I used to use RH when it was free
well, before the big corp change
