A: Duplicated content www on subdomain and SSL

closetnocYou asked quite a few questions and I suspect you know most of the answers already. So to clear up some confusion, I will address the subject of changing the domain name since this sounds like the new question. If you need more, please let us know. Keywords in domain names mean almost nothing an...

So it's not cool redirect the https to http, www. to without www. and redirect domain? as this way it will be 3 redirect, google may not follow?

@IslenoIturiel I know there is a limit, but I do not know what the limit is. It may work just fine, but I am a firm believer in using as few redirects as possible simply because it can cause problems elsewhere.

Do you know the best way to redirect by htaccess www to non-www and http to https? I don't know anything about redirect rules :\

@IslenoIturiel I updated the answer. I think this is correct code for you. Try it and see what you get.

My htaccess have so many things I am lost, how to add the new rewriterule? can you please see my question again? I updated! I am afraid to edit and make a mistake
I got a error: 500 internal. I tried use: # this redirects example.com and www.example.com to https - thanks closetnoc @webmasters-stackexange RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^loja.genesiseries\.com$ [NC, OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.loja.genesiseries\.com$ [NC, OR] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ loja.genesiseries.com/$1 [R=301,L] where I went wrong?

7:41 PM
@IslenoIturiel Okay. RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.loja.genesiseries\.com$ should have ^www\.loja\.genesiseries\.com$- you are missing a \ [slash] which escapes the . [dot] which means something in regular expressions. Try this change.

Updated question again, sorry, something still wrong :(

@IslenoIturiel Is there anything in the Apache error log? There may be a collision with another line- but let's check the log for clues first. It is possible to move it just after the RewriteBase / and modify the line RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] to https instead of http.

Updated question with error log and details, thanks for all

@IslenoIturiel It is likely because I put a space in [NC, OR] which should be [NC,OR]. Sorry. Let's try that!

My page results in a loop redirect, it's probably the repeated redirect. As you can see the: RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] the domain already appear redirected here, I really don't sure about but it's not what causing the error?

7:41 PM
@IslenoIturiel You can always try commenting out the line RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] with a # to see.
@IslenoIturiel I also noticed that the line in question is still http instead of https. You can try that change too to see what happens.

Well, after comment, your code worked but i'm still able to acess www.loja.genesiseries.com and still doesn't redirecting to https://
Changing the line: RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] to HTTPS doesn't do any effect

@IslenoIturiel I noticed that RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com$ [NC,OR] has [NC,OR] when it should be [NC]. It is a small error, but I don't think that is the problem here. You will still want to make this change. Meanwhile, I am looking to see what else.
@IslenoIturiel I updated the code in the answer. This might do the trick!

I already removed the ,OR but as you said the problem continues (still accessible www. and still http). I really appreciate your help

@IslenoIturiel I put new code in the answer. I am thinking this might work.

Wow, it work! we just got a little problem: 1- Now the https really appear instantly when we acess by http. 2- Now if i put www. instantly redirect to without www. 3- SOMETHING GONE WRONG AND BROKEN MY FRIENDLY URL :( A example product: tablet genesis gt-7240 appear as loja.genesiseries.com/tablet-genesis-gt-7240 but when click it go to: loja.genesiseries.com/index.php?_route_=tablet-genesis-gt-7240 probably some conflict in rules but where?

7:41 PM
@IslenoIturiel I think it has to do with the line we commented out RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] Can we uncomment it and make sure it has https?

I added a new edit and post the new HTACCESS, but it still with the problem even uncommented this rule. By the way if i comment the RewriteRule ^index\.php$ loja.genesiseries.com? [R=301,L] your code stop working and it's like that we don't do any change, the www. still can be accessible and doesn't redirect to https

@IslenoIturiel I think if we move the new code just under RewriteBase / so that it gets executed first that might work.

Moved to under RewriteBase / and doesn't make any effect :( But i discover that: When we acess the shop, if i select a product appear: loja.genesiseries.com/tablet-genesis-gt-7240 for example, with friendly URL but when i access it change to: loja.genesiseries.com/index.php?_route_=tablet-genesis-gt-7240 but, if i try to access: loja.genesiseries.com/tablet-genesis-gt-7240 directly from browser it works! Is even possible that the problem wasn't in htaccess?

@Isleno Ituriel I am not sure. Moving to HTTPS can be tricky sometimes. I am not sure what software you are using for your site, but there might be some clues for set-up in the documentation such as a setting somewhere. Meanwhile, I will see what I can come up with. You are right. We are close!
@IslenoIturiel You might want to empty your browser cache. I went to tables and click on your 7240 link and I got what I think you are expecting.

Oh, i get it! edit comment doesn't generate a flag but i saw your comment. Well i have good news: I don't know why but it worked now! All working great except the admin panel :\ take a look: loja.genesiseries.com/admin have other type of redirect? a lot time ago someone changed my htaccess to permanent https just a little code and this kind of error don't happened. Have some way to do it?
Yes, i got the same of you but just after upload again the .htaccess (even that i not changed anything!)

7:41 PM
@IslenoIturiel I got to your admin page okay. I am not sure what you are experiencing.

The admin page secured by https deactivated all "unsecure" resources (links and images). If you use google chrome you will be able to see it, after you mention that seem normal page I tested in internet explorer and get a the same unsecured resources page, but if i click to show all content the page appear normal, when try to login in admin i get the error again.

@IslenoIturiel I cannot log in. I enter the user name, password, then hit return and nothing. I assume that there is a button I am not seeing. Can you capture the error via text or screen shot?

@IslenoIturiel I see the problem is in the open cart installation. I do not know anything about open cart. Sorry. Let's do what Dan says and open a new question. I see some answers on the web for you.

I think the problem is in somewhere on https a long time ago someone modified my htaccess and i was able to access the admin page and it was working pretty. I will open another question because is more fair if i give you other correct answer, after soooooo many comments

7:41 PM
@IslenoIturiel Okay.

Are you there?

Hi!

Hi!!!

What's going on?

how are you?

7:44 PM
I am good. Just got back in the house. I will have to leave again soon though.
How about you?

I am fine, after read about keywords i was thinking about some changes

Q: Evaluate of keywords and Heading

Isleno IturielPlease evaluate my keywords. The main keyword that gives me visits is: 'genesis tablet' now you will see it repeat and repeat and repeat, tell me if it's good or needs change. Now I am getting a really good position in rank, always on the 1º to 4º position in search But here is my current keywor...

But it seems that i broke some rules
I was hoping you'd tell me what you think

What rules are you thinking?

I mean, in topic!

Oh on the site. I get it.

"put on hold as off-topic by bybe♦ 9 hours ago"

Yeah. This is a judgement call by moderators and sometimes these questions appear too narrow- as applying to just one site.
I saw this earlier and I could not answer.

:\
I'll delete that question

I am looking at the original question.

But can you tell me if it's good?

I would hold off for a minute.
deleting that is...

Well, I need to delete because no one can answer

7:53 PM
I would not use an h1 tag for an image and then have another following it. Google, Bing can be confused by this and likely will take the first one expecting only one- generally speaking. I kind of agree with them. There should be just one.
I am looking at it as we speak.

How about footer elements on h2 and h3

If you are using header tags for links, I wouldn't. You will get ranked for these links- if they are contact, facebook, and so on, it might not help you. I use ul and li tags for these. Google likes these structures for links.

My contact link, facebook and all footer links already are in UL and LI
Like that:

<h3>depoiments </h3>
<li> link 1 </li>
<li> link 2 </link>
ops
</li> hahaha

I do like the idea of using headers for products and manufacturers and such. But I would see if I can follow this up with a <p> tag and a snippet of content. It can be boiler plate stuff- repeated from page to page if it applies

so it's a bad idea? I mean, use <h2> for all product name

8:01 PM
No not at all. I made a comment for edit suggestions from the moderator thinking that removing the top existing format be removed leaving the proposed format as the question. That might help to get answers from more than one person.

you must be earning some points now hahahah
i saw

I do like the header tags being used for product manufacturer, product, model, and so on. But I am not strong on store fronts and there are people who know these things better than I. I am rather old-school!
BTW- I do not worry about points and badges. I just answer questions. I do not even edit them enough.

Like who?
I would like ask

I am not sure who. I will still help too. I am here for you.

I know, but you are answering me, it's unfair if you don't earn some points

8:04 PM
I do like your proposed format. It looks good to me.

I will try change, I just need avoid keyword spam
Right?

I don't care about the points. Sometimes when there is activity and people are getting good answers, I throw comments out to help. In fact sometimes I give the answer in a comment and let someone else answer.
Yes. Keyword spam is bad. That is why I suggest putting a paragraph or content between the header tags.

You mean like that: <h2><p></p></h2>?

Yes. Something to signal content of some sort. Maybe even a logo or something to keep Google happy. BTW- I do related ?? using a <ul> <li> for my site with a link.
Google is rather old school too. They use something like wordpad (in effect) to load content and understand relationships between headers and paragraphs and images and so on. They are looking for something readable by humans.

About the first empty <H1> that have my logo and alt/title

8:12 PM
For a part of my site, I have headers and a very short paragraph. I could use a table and images, but I think the header/paragraph format works best for me. I rank for keywords in these and get searches for it too.

I will remove, right?

You might want to just use the image and not the h1 tag.

WOW, PR5
your site

Just use one h1 tag and make it something texual. Yes. My site looks terrible. Bot of my sites used to be PR 8 with 10,000 real users years ago. I started to revamp the one site last december and it will just plain take a while. I load data all day every day. I am working on a new responsive design template that is a lot cleaner and new images and redoing the content.

My PR still 0, the www. duplicated content can cause this?

8:18 PM
In fact, this site was not really meant for people, but to be abused. I do research on automated analysis for developing trust networks. But I had all this data, so I am posting it and making for humans which means restructuring the database schema for both research and the site.
BTW PR for the site, as far as Google is concerned, is going away. But it really isn't. It is just being publicized. I refer to SiteRank and TrustRank when talking SEO.
Removing duplication between www.example.com and example.com is advisable. You can also use Google Webmaster Tools to tell them which you prefer. They ignore one for the other that way. That used to be enough. I have a redirect from non-www to www as well. It can be the other way around too.

Is good sign in directories?
I mean, registering on directories like dmoz, yahoo
I read in somewhere that registering on directories can damage your SEO.

Work on TrustRank too. Use shcema.org for mark-up for contact information and make sure it can be found easily by the search engine. It is okay to use the header or footer for this.
Directories are good- most of them anyways. Also business listing sites. Generally speaking, most are low value, but some are high value. Still, a link is a link and a citation is a citation. Search engines mostly ignore the bad directories/business sites. YES. DMOZ and Yahoo! are good ones. Some directories are not great. Do not get too carried away with these. This was an old rick for building rank and search engines are looking for excessive usage of these.
I do not do the directory thing. But I found this site years ago that looks good to me. It may help. info.vilesilencer.com/top
I like this list because it gives information that is useful and you can sort the list based on the various columns. As well, the site gives an overall score that can be helpful.
I would only pick a few high quality directories and perhaps ones that are niche specifically related to your site.

8:41 PM
I have no words to thank you
You helped so much
Thanks

Anytime! If you have any other questions I am here everyday. I do this for fun! I am semi-retired from IT and just do research, the website, and this for fun. I could not leave IT completely!
BTW- leave the question for now. Let's see if we can get edit ideas and get it re-opened. Bybe is really really good.

Ok
