Q: Movie Where an Older Person Has a Refrigerator Full of Birdseed and Fruit Leather

vaticRiteI have had a particular image in my head for years which I think is from a movie made in the 1970s or 80s. A child is at an older person's house, and this older person is eccentric but a mentor character in the story. Looking for something to eat the child opens a refrigerator which is full of b...

Q: Why are dolls, teddy bears are used as horror objects in horror films?

Alex TIn many horror films dolls, teddy bears, puzzle boxes (toys in general) are used as objects which the spirits/ghosts use to scare people. Some examples would be Annabelle, the crooked man musical box (The Conjuring 2), Billy, Chucky, Jigsaw. Why are they used when there could be more scarier obje...

6:42 AM
@AnkitSharma Posted another Batman question. Does it need that comic tag again?

@steelerfan Still not seen Batman due to my health but seems like a good question, +1
@steelerfan Not this time, it's about the film only and plot explanation seems enough to me

A J
Hey there @AnkitSharma @steelerfan
How you doin'?

@AnkitSharma Awww. What's wrong? Are you okay?
@AJ Hey there! I'm fine. Trying to compete with Ankit for this ToW challenge ;)

@steelerfan My voice is more manly then it even was and cough and cold. And back to my angry rage mode
@AJ cc ^
@steelerfan we have a competition again movies.stackexchange.com/questions/59968/…

@AnkitSharma Oh, no. Is it your roommate or your co-worker that has you in a rage?

A J
6:46 AM
@steelerfan Yeah I saw ;)

@steelerfan Roommate yes , co-worker is changed now for good but my rage mode is more due to my anxiety and health

A J
@AnkitSharma Cough and cold is common these days due to monsoon.

@AnkitSharma I saw that earlier!

@steelerfan On the sidenote my top one have 10 votes ;p

A J
Seems like @AnkitSharma is winning.

6:47 AM
@AnkitSharma Awww. Don't be in a rage over that. It will get better :)

Q: Did the Joker kill Alicia Hunt?

steelerfanAlicia Hunt was the mistress of Jack Napier before he became the Joker. She was also the mistress of Carl Grissom, Gotham's underworld crime boss and Jack Napier's boss. Jack Napier's affair with her was the motive behind Carl Grissom setting up Jack Napier in a police sting which led to his ac...

@AJ I think I got it due to location changes ( banglore-delhi-banglore) and worsen by changing weather of banglroe

@AJ I know! I had to post a question to compete! ;)

@steelerfan Obviously I will love to see you wining but I want to make it tough competition and you are the one who inspired me

A J
@AnkitSharma Possibly. relax for a while and take proper medication. You aren't at work, are you?

6:50 AM
On the side note gargling and steam not helping. Going for rum tonight hopefully

@AnkitSharma Awww. I appreciate that :) It's all in fun! It's more fun when people are into it like we are :)

@AJ I am at work, i don't take off for common cold and I was on long leave recently

I never call in sick for work. It's just not in my nature ;)

@steelerfan I invested enough for Shakespeare ToW last time which I lots ;D

@AnkitSharma Well, I answered two for that challenge. Actually, my sister did, just on my account ;)
Still didn't win, though. Dammit!

6:53 AM
Why she is not using her account
We are missing the fun

She's just not into this stuff. She really has to be interested in a topic. She was really interested in those two questions and she likes that kinda stuff. Other than that, she's just not into stuff like this and she really isn't into chatrooms. Just not her thing. Thank God.

lol
Good for u

She was really interested in another question a while ago and spent a few hours answering it and right when she was ready, Wad posted an answer that was basically the same. She was so annoyed!! It was hilarious.

@steelerfan Your joker answer can win unasnwered question challenge and deserve it. Give me credit for reopening it for answering ;)
@steelerfan ohhh, I feel sorry for her.

@AnkitSharma Thanks!! That's why I answered it, for the challenge :)

7:00 AM
It doesn't deserved the closing and other mods had no issue reopening it , sop I did it
I really love using reopen vote when applicable

@AnkitSharma OMG. It was hilarious. I told her that someone just posted an answer. Her response: "Who the f*ck is this guy?" "His answer is even better than mine!" "God Dammit!" I was laughing hysterically.
@AnkitSharma Why was it even closed?

evil wad, crushed heart of that poor soul

Hehe!

@steelerfan I don't know, look fine to me. It happen long ago

Yeah, it was a legitimate question, imo.

7:05 AM
Do anybody know where is keen this days, is he even active on any SE site

I have no idea. I don't think that I have ever talked to him.

He was ex movies.se user and ex-mod on SFF before the rage quit happened after the election.
I did talked to him few times

Yeah, I didn't even know about the reasons behind it, I just knew that he quit, which was too bad.

better we change the topic
lets talk about kiwis

Kiwis!!
I'm working on another question, anyways...

7:11 AM
@steelerfan good luck with that

Not for ToW, just another one.

If it's not ID then I am happy whatever it's about

Grrrr...nevermind. Google answered it in like two minutes. Dammit!

uffff

Well, at least my question was answered ;)

7:16 AM
hmmm

"Why does Jerry Dandridge eat fruit in Fright Night?" It was Chris Sarandon's idea because he thought that he would have fruit bat DNA in him since he was a vampire. Cool!

Edward Scissorhands : When does the movie take place?
The pastel colors, house furnishings, women's fashions and hairstyles, pill hats, starburst wall clocks and pastel-colored rotary dial telephones are all reminiscent of the early 1960s. However, the VCRs and aerobics classes came to be in the 1980s or thereabout. So there is no real time when the movie "took place."
@steelerfan one more thing you were looking for ^^

I just watched the original. Chris Sarandon is the best vampire! Very seductive. Man oh man, that sexy dance club scene! Phew!

Not seen Fright Night

@AnkitSharma That's exactly what I was talking about. It's weird how they do that. Hmmm

7:20 AM
@steelerfan They do this with many properties to keep it in vague era. Recently Gotham TV series did it

@AnkitSharma I'm talking about the original from 1985. The remake is really good as well. I do have to choose Chris Sarandon over Colin Farrell for that dance scene alone ;)
@AnkitSharma Yeah, they did the same thing in Napoleon Dynamite

@steelerfan Not into any of them

Bummer.

Q: What time era is presented in Gotham?

Ankit SharmaIn Gotham, Gordan said that he participated in war, technology shown is not too old. But still which time era it represents looks vague. Is it ever said which time era it represents?

Cool! Now, I am rethinking posting my Edward Scissorhands time era question...

7:35 AM
hmmm
I really like to ask questions on the film I like to get attention to that film but I am failing to do that with The Way He Looks :'(

@steelerfan It's still a cool question and an interesting answer.
But I know you won't ask it anymore now.

@AnkitSharma @steelerfan @Himarm sorry for not replying to the pings, I've been super busy this weekend. But no, I can't get anyone a gun, and we don't actually have a couch yet.

7:52 AM
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I just watched the original tonight. I'm bummed, I found the answer easily. It's way cool that Chris Sarandon thought of that himself and put eating fruit in the movie. It became the trademark for that character!
@DrRDizzle Hahaha! Fair enough :)

@steelerfan Yeah, which is why I think it would still be a cool question. Well, 'nother one for the list of questions I'll have to ask some day. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Well, I just don't want the "Google is an amazing tool" comments...I don't know.
You're more than welcome to steal ask that question ;)

@steelerfan Well, it depends if it's gathered from more than one Google source or from the 27th search result.
If it's really the first entry or on Wikipedia, I'd agree that it makes no sense to ask.

@NapoleonWilson Nope. First one. Actual interview with Chris Sarandon.
Speaking of Chris Sarandon...Princess Bride!! Woohoo!

@NapoleonWilson Nope. First one. Actual interview with Chris Sarandon.

@steelerfan I didn't "hmpf" you, but the situation.

@NapoleonWilson After the first DV, looks like it's getting received well

@NapoleonWilson Okay. I don't care if you "hmpf" me. You can"hmpf" me any time you like ;)

@steelerfan Still didn't. ;-)

I was just confused why I was getting "hmpf'd"

@MovieReel grrr

@NapoleonWilson Argh!

@steelerfan ?_?
All is well sweety. 'S wrong? ;-)

@NapoleonWilson It's because I suggested it. Duh.

Nevermind, not sos ure now

@steelerfan I guess.
Too bad I missed the Batman films on TV, though. :'(

@NapoleonWilson hmpf!

And I didn't felt well to complete Batman yesterday night

Hehehe!

8:16 AM
@NapoleonWilson You need to get some movie channels, silly!

@steelerfan No!

Q: Does Batman Begins occur before Tim Burton's Batman?

user221287I know that the movie Batman Begins [2005] was made many years after the movies Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin, but it seems to be set before all the other movies in the series. I am not sure but after seeing all the movies I think it is based on a year much earlier...

@AnkitSharma Awww. Go home and eat some soup, drink some tea, take lots of vitamin C and Echinacea. Nurses orders :)

Awww, someone downvoted your musical challenge idea and noone else upvoted it yet. Makes much more sense than the Vegas thing. :'(

why the hell kevin's answer is accepted
@steelerfan I know what is Echinacea and I am taking ginger tea.

8:18 AM
@AnkitSharma Yeah, that's complete and utter nonsense.

@NapoleonWilson Bummer. Well, the only reason that I suggested the Vegas thing in the first place is because you and I were just there. I just used Caesar's Palace anniversary as an excuse ;)

@NapoleonWilson I downvoted both and I had my reasons

@steelerfan It's just that it seems incredibly hard to define.

@steelerfan sorry to disappoint you

@NapoleonWilson <sigh> Yeah, I know :(

8:20 AM
To me defining musical is tough too.

Maybe a Gene Wilder challenge...I don't know.

@AnkitSharma I don't know. Films where people sing songs?

@steelerfan You can't trick me to watch 70s films now
@NapoleonWilson you mean 99% of Bollywood films. On the sidenote we never ever had Bollywood ToW

@AnkitSharma Noone ever proposed it.

@NapoleonWilson even one song is enough or the film has to have musical teheme

8:22 AM
@AnkitSharma Hehehe!

@NapoleonWilson I will but need to find a occasion

@AnkitSharma Films described as musicals. I.e. Rocky Horror, Grease...

@AnkitSharma Well, I wouldn't count a Farelli movie where the people start to sing at the end as a musical really.

That reminded me I have to check Bombay Talkies, which was tribute to 100th year of Indian cinema

Maybe it's not as easy to define as I thought. Still a great suggestion, though.

8:28 AM
@NapoleonWilson that is my point. Meet the Spartans only have one song in the end as a parody of American idol

Aren't there films clearly defined as musicals?

There's also a difference to be made between musicals and music movies, like Footloose or Dirty Dancing.
@steelerfan Sure.

If I get clear definition then I am ready to change my vote

Isn't there a link that gives a list of all movies considered musicals?

@AnkitSharma Yeah, no, in whatever world, Meet The Spartans is not a musical. ;-)

8:30 AM
DDLJ is bollywood romance film which was neevr said to be musical but it is musical . So is it in?
DDLJ have 7 songs

Argh. That link is confusing. Lemme find another one.

Yeah, seeing that every Bollywood film is pretty much a musical, that doesn't make things easier. ;-(

Similarly 99% of Bollywood film never called music or musical film still tehy are as per US standard
@NapoleonWilson Maybe you can say Any Bollywood film will be on topic where any character sing a song but background song will not be counted
Or just exclude them
Anyway we have tollywood , pollywood etc too

What's that? Tamil and Punjabi?

Okay. I think that new link better describes a musical.

8:35 AM
Wut? I didn't even notice there was a link to begin with.

jfc
;)

tamil = Kollywood

Has anyone here seen the Team Thor short yet?

punjabi should be pollywood or that is for Pakistani cinema O.o
@DrRDizzle @AncientSwordRage seen it. He asked lots of question on it

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, just like I gave examples of Vegas films that could be used.

8:37 AM
@AnkitSharma Yeah, I just answered one.
I quite liked it.

@NapoleonWilson Here is a list of variety without there ****wood names
The cinema of India consists of films produced across India. Cinema as a medium has gained immense popularity in the country and as many as 1,600 films in various languages of India are produced annually. Indian films have also come to be followed throughout South Asia, the Greater Middle East, Southeast Asia and other countries. Dadasaheb Phalke is known as the father of Indian cinema. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour, by the Government of India in 1969, and is the most prestigious and coveted award in Indian cinema. In the 20th century...

@steelerfan I noticed that, yeah.

Oh, yay! Chinatown is on!

Cool!
I hope you didn't miss the very best part already!

jfc. It's 1:40 am!

8:40 AM
@steelerfan But that link make nothing clear for Indian film industries

@NapoleonWilson It just started like 30 seconds ago. What's the best part?
@AnkitSharma I'm sorry :(

@steelerfan No worries, I just need exact definition to make a positive vote

@steelerfan The joke that Jack Nicholson tells, about how the Chinese "do" it.

@AnkitSharma No biggie. It doesn't bother me at all. I just wanted to make some suggestions, because there aren't a lot there without downvotes.
@NapoleonWilson Oh...right, right, right. Haven't got to that yet ;)

@AnkitSharma Why? It says that many Indian films are musicals, that makes it quite clear. And if anything, it provides a proper definition, if Bollywood films count as musicals by that definition, then so be it. What kind of "clarity" do you expect more?
That might be the 2nd best film joke ever, after Tarantino's pissing joke in Desperado.

8:47 AM
@NapoleonWilson Oh, the one about the two bets?

@steelerfan Yeah. Hah, it's amazing that you know that!

@NapoleonWilson Are you kidding me...my husband loved that part of the movie. He thought that was the greatest story, ever. He would reference that a lot, that's how I knew ;)
And I have seen it a bazillion times, because, well...Selma Hayek ;)

@steelerfan Hah! 'S 'nat amazing?!

Q: Help me find a movie with an exchange scene with many suspens

julio HI'm looking for a movie (or a TV show) where there is an exchange scene (I think they exchange a leather bag with money in it) and they exchange it without talking, there are lot of suspens and when they exchange the bag there is a movie effect like a slow motion... Is there anybody who can help...

@NapoleonWilson YES!!!
Nobody will ever be as cool as Jack Nicholson. Just sayin'
OMG. It's 2am! Gonna go fall asleep to Chinatown. See you sillies later :)

9:01 AM
@steelerfan Good night and sweat dreems!

@NapoleonWilson Bollywood film never defined as musical not even on Wikipedia. You have to check case by case it it's musical or not and sometime character don't sing song but there are background songs or some singer comes for a song only
@MovieReel ohh please stop it now

user116211
9:24 AM
@MovieReel C'mon why you people are so blunt.... can't you be creative to write an informative title?

@MAFIA36790 Because they don't give a shit

user116211
BTW, did anyone watch the Supergirl season finale episode and its penultimate episode?

user116211
9:41 AM
There Non asked Lucy Lane to release all the prisoners of DEO except the White Martian.... why? Does anyone know the reason?

because jon jonnz was his enemy?

user116211
@KutuluMike So?

so why would Non ask Lucy to release someone that could potentially beat him?

@MAFIA36790 Who's Lucy Lane?
Is she related to Lois Lane?

user116211
@KutuluMike Why would he need to beat him? White Martian was only there to kill Green Martian, isn't it?

user116211
9:43 AM
@NapoleonWilson yep; sister.

I just assumed Non was taking about J'on Jonnz when he said "don't release the Martian"

I never understood why they could seriously employ both Lois Lane and Lana Lang in the same comic. That confused the hell out of me when watching Superman as a kid and it sounded like she was called Lana Lane.

because Lucy did not let him go.

user116211

user116211
@KutuluMike ohh; point; lemme dig on it. Although was he not then a fugitive with Alex?

9:47 AM
yes but he got out later, not with the rest of the prisoners?

@MAFIA36790 Are those guys related to that Martian Manhunter thing?

I think, it's been a while.

user116211
@NapoleonWilson yep.

J'on Jonzz is a green Martian.
there are also white Martians that hate the green ones.
maybe white Martians hate Kryptonians, too?

@KutuluMike Sounds more like John Carter.
But granted, that was apparently a big inspiration for Superman already.

user116211
9:49 AM
@KutuluMike ohh; is there any evidence on it in comics atleast?

i dunno.
i swear someone asked about this already. maybe it was on the other site
maybe not. did you ask this in Agents of Nothing?

user116211
@KutuluMike maybe.

user116211
in Agents of Nothing, Aug 18 at 16:43, by MAFIA36790
In Myriad, why did Non ask not to release White Martian?

i guess he does say White Martian.

user116211
I need to be sure whether Non was actually talking about the White Martian and not Jonzz.

9:53 AM
but she doesn't release Manhunter, so either that's a script error, or there's some reason he doesn't want the other Martian out.

At least John Carter has myriads of green martians.

user116211
@KutuluMike But he said Martian ;/ Well, he knew atleast the DEO prison had the White Martian; that's for sure.

the only reason I can think why he wouldn't want to let that thing out is that he knew it was too aggressive and wouldn't help him and would get in his way.

user116211
I couldn't remember but maybe they later showed momentarily the White Martian in the prison. Well, couldn't remember though.

If he was in a DEA prison, does the nickname "White Martian" have anything to do with cocaine?

user116211
9:55 AM
@KutuluMike Well, maybe that's the reason.

DEO
Department of Extraterrestrial Operations, I think.

user116211
Well, if I have time, I would ask this here.... till now @KutuluMike has a point.

user116211
Ah! So, it's confirmed; Non was talking about the White Martian:

it makes so little sense, though, that I suspect that might just have been a mistake.
and he was supposed to say Green Martian and no one caught it

10:02 AM
I presume the White Martian has a penchant for White Russians?

user116211
@KutuluMike Green Martian was never arranged to be put in the DEO prison; Colonel James Harper decided to take him for Project Cadmus. So, I don't think there is a flaw in the script when Non was talking about the prisoners.

10:17 AM
Did anyone happen to see Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, the latest film from The Lonely Island?

10:29 AM
No.

Then I blame you for the lack of money it's making.

user116211
@DrRDizzle Is it released?

@MAFIA36790 It came out in the US in June I think, but it came out here last week.

user116211
ohh.

Well, it's really good and you should all see it when you can, anyway.

10:36 AM
@NapoleonWilson martian manhunter is superman with green skin and more powers, everyone from his planet is dead

@AnkitSharma I thought Green Lantern was human?

@DrRDizzle No, you blame those stupid Lone Island people for not releasing it in my country!

user116211
@AnkitSharma you are kidding, right?

@MAFIA36790 @DrRDizzle read again guys
@NapoleonWilson lol

@NapoleonWilson I think you might have to blame Universal Pictures for that, not The Lonely Island. It made so little money in the USA that release was postponed, cut back or full-on cancelled in a lot of areas. My local multiplex has just one showing of it a day, at nearly 10PM.

10:39 AM
@DrRDizzle I can take the blame but I don't care either ;p

Which means actually, you might be best blaming those pesky Americans.

@steelerfan Have you seen it? You're into that mockumentary stuff.

The White Martians are one of three fictional extraterrestrial races native to Mars in the DC Comics' shared universe. White Martians, also known as Pale Martians, appear in the comics of the DC Universe, chiefly JLA, Martian Manhunter, and Son of Vulcan. == History == As a race of shapeshifters, physical appearance has little meaning for Martians. The underlying psychological differences are what separated the peaceful Green Martians from the war-like Whites. White Martians have configured their physiology to reflect their philosophy, becoming a separate race from the Green Martians, and...

Q: Do the BBC have any plans to release 'casualty' on DVD/BluRay?

Pat DobsonDo the BBC have any plans to release Casualty on DVD or BluRay? At the moment series 1-3 are available but no others. If they don't have any plans, have they given a reason?

do we have any Portuguese expert here or on any other site?

@MAFIA36790 In that afleck batman solo film

user116211
@AnkitSharma yep.

he is speculated to be played by Joe Manganiello
Joe looks fit for the role
But deathstroke is in JL too with unknown capacity

@AJ Not yet, but I'm planning to, I heard good things about it.
Deathstroke c'est tre cool!

Why do people all want the same boilerplate films as seen a million times? Not only do they want to see the same MCU film over and over again, no, they even want them to copy the DC films millions of times. No thanks, Joker and Two-Face can come in Affleck's 2nd or 3rd film.

All I really want from a Batman film is a Die Hard/Dredd/The Raid: Redemption "one bad night" style film dealing with a breakout at Arkham Asylum.

Deathstroke sounds pretty much like a straight-to-the-point villain for some small-scale down-to-earth crap, rather than huge city/world-ending bombast.

Well he's apparently showing up in Justice League first, in God-only-knows-what capacity.
@NapoleonWilson I've read it a few times, but I don't really understand what you mean by this message. What about Deathstroke being yet another super soldier means that people want to keep watching the same film over and over again? I'm not trying to start an argument, I just legitimately don't understand.

@DrRDizzle Huh? It doesn't.
