Q: Spanish legal TV series

zkvvoobSome 12-15 years ago I watched on TV a Spanish series about a team of an investigating judge, a lawyer (two males) and their two assistants (female). @NapoleonWilson I think I saw you around... do we have some sort of editing policy to remove spoiler markup? I know the general spoiler policy, obviously, but since the markup isn't outright banned, is there a policy for if/when it's OK to remove it? Honestly, I think that there are appropriate times (like when someone's asking about a TV episode that's far earlier than the current one in a dramatic series and you learn more info later in the series but want to warn them to stop reading...
if they haven't watched the rest of the series, etc...
These two, though, seem kinda silly, particularly the one in the answer. movies.stackexchange.com/questions/33690/…

southsingerI saw it like 5 years ago on YouTube. It looked like a commercial from 80s or early 90s. A young boy was eating rice without a fork. Then an Uncle Ben's jar (or pack?) started glowing blue and then it said "Use the Fork Luke". A boy said "Ben?", took the fork, star wars melody. Could you please...

Q: Wall Street 2: Nationalisation

MovieLoverThis question relates to the movie Wall Street: Money never sleeps. Why does the rumor of nationalisation affect the interest in Hydra Offshore shares?

@Catija Not a strict one, just that it isn't required and should be used responsibly and not overused. But what "should" means here is unclear though. That answer you linked, it isn't necessary there but it also doesn't really hurt that much. It's not like here, where it turns a question into an utter non-question.

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, that one's really bad, since there's zero content other than the spoiler and the warning.

If it obstructs the question, though, it's a problem. But feel free to edit it out of the answer or maybe even out of the question. Maybe you can find a compromise that respects the askers wishes to hide spoilers but still makes for a reasonable question.

Q: What is your favorite comedy movie?

samWhat is your favorite comedy movie?

9:35 AM
@Catija Is it a stylistic device deliberately playing with the supposedly misogynistic attitude when you mix the words "girls" and "men" or was this mere intuition. The latter might allow more deductions about your individual attitude on the matter while the former would of course embiggen your writing skills exposed in that answer. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson I honestly wish I could take the credit for it being intentional. It was more likely subconscious, though. I've been reading a tumblr recently about "Shit people say to women in the film industry" and I'm getting a bit more sensitive to that sort of thing... plus, as a female, watching women strutting around in nothing while men are fully dressed is getting a bit old.
... not that that specific example applies as much to the Marvel films... for superheroes, the women of the current Marvel world tend to be decently covered.

@Catija Well, sure. It was just amusing that you talked about misogyny while "degrading" the female counterparts to "men" to their non-grownup terminology. ;-) But it is of course a reasonable point in the answer. And if we just pretend that terminology was intentional, it's also written pretty well. ;-)

Oh, well, using girls is what I think men think of women often... "she's just a girl, what does she know"... that sort of thing.
Ugh. 5 am. bed for me. Have a good day @NapoleonWilson

@Catija That being said, Scarlett Johansson and Robin Scherbatsky fortunately don't need to show too much skin to look amazingly beautiful. ;-)
@Catija Thanks, good night.

Don't really know any of those guys, apart from that annoying Joker-lady.
Are the guys on the right supposed to be Croc and Zasz?

Sure for the croc
Don't know Zasz
Mask lady is Katana and will smith is deathshot

Wut, Will Smith?

@NapoleonWilson on the right of joker lady

Didn't know he's in that movie (well, don't know anything about the movie anyway, so).

@NapoleonWilson In short Amand waller (govt lady) hires villain for death missions.
@NapoleonWilson didn't you have watched justice league cartoon series
?
David Ayer even revealed Joker and Deathshots image too
Joker looks bit risky business.
He is gonna rock it or ruin it

10:04 AM
@AnkitSharma No. I only know Deadshot from Batman: Arkham City.

@AnkitSharma Urgh, yeah, I've seen the fan panic that's going around a friggin' little foto. Looked interesting to me, though, but I couldn't care less.

@NapoleonWilson i love what crazy fan made of batman pic with tattoos
Made me laugh too much

10:44 AM
Wait, wasn't Deadshot also in Arrow? The guy that killed Diggle's brother or so and that he later bumped out of a Russian prison? (Not to confuse with Deathstroke, though.)
What the f--k? Eleven shared-continuity DC films already planned? Oh my, that whole superhero comics thing's never gonna end. The worst is, though, when all those films are done, they'll simply just reboot that crap yet again after two years, because why not, it f--king works, people will watch it. Whatever this means for the individual identities of those insanely copied characters is a completely different question, though.

@NapoleonWilson I am not following Arrow but they are already using lots of batman villains
@NapoleonWilson LOL. I honestly will love it until reboot starts.
No reboot until 2020 for sure
And i can make a new tag or whatever they gave it officially

10:59 AM
@AnkitSharma Oh, great. It's not that I don't enjoy all those movies, I did like all of them. but one has to wonder if there's a place for anything else but superheros in mainstream blockbuster cinema anymore.
@AnkitSharma So that we can get rid of those stupid and tags that have absolutely no use at all and are awfully misused currently.

@NapoleonWilson For few year only, then they will start making movie like Batman vs Robin and green lantern and that will make them afraid of superherom movies
@NapoleonWilson If i am not wrong then i have create that tag and will love to do that for DC as being a DC fan.
@NapoleonWilson You can use it in chronology question

@AnkitSharma I'm not sure there ever is a point to be expected where the audience says "stop it!" or that's just absolutely unforeseeable right now. But well, they simply realized that they have a whole huge sub-culture to serve and that sub-culture will hype those movie and is incidentally also the sub-culture that practically owns the internet. Can't blame them for using the circumstances for their profit.

@NapoleonWilson But at some point they will always be forced to reboot for newer audience. As done with comics always.

@AnkitSharma Yeah, just that the reboots won't end and from looking at the current situation, one can only assume it will get more extreme with reboots and at some point we will get flooded with this comic stuff upto a point where nobody can make a difference between those movies anymore (if we haven't already).

There are news about smallville, flash crossover. It's good that i decided to stay away from it. Don't have enough time to catch longer series.
@NapoleonWilson Take the cae of Hulk and spider man. Three reboot recently (counting avenger hulk as reboot and new spider man coming in Captain america 3)

11:09 AM
And of course they have the comics on their side. I don't know anything about comics, but what I do know is that each and every character has been redone into so many different version and incarnations in whatever parallel universes and comic-reboots, that even with a completely faithful adaptation you have millions of different origin stories to chose for your next reboot of your favorutie superhero.
@AnkitSharma Indeed. Here the next Spiderman to make him congruent with MCU, here the next Batman to make him congruent with "DCU", here the next Green Lantern because the previous one sucked,...

@NapoleonWilson As per my knowledge of spider man, Civil war will only ruin his story further and that will demand another reboot of parallel universe or some partial rebbot.

@AnkitSharma Sure, makes perfect sense, because it is a shared universe of series and movies. But is utterly useless, because that connection only applies to the source material and not to the movies themselves, we don't have tags for film studios or book authors. just look at the questions tagged , it's awful.

@NapoleonWilson I am also thinking to edit this marvel and dc comic question including this tags. but don't want to ruin active page.
Some are my own and few need to be kept intact too

@AnkitSharma What? do you mean you want to edit those tags into all those questions?
Truth is, those tags don't make any sense at all, since we're not a comics site and apart from being based on works from the same publisher those movies have absolutely no connection whatsoever.

@NapoleonWilson not doing it but will for 3-4 tonight

11:19 AM
But I guess one could make a case based on the existence of . But well, this tag is also completely misused. The only thing I could live with would be if we really really really keep it to those general questions that only apply to Marvel/DC/Disney as an entity. But questions about why little Barry Allen didn't get sucked into a black hole by Sinestro's power, uh, no, that's not about DC Comics at all!

Now time to utilize my demanded holiday in something it suppose to be. Will catch u later.

Talking about female SHIELDers, how is Agent Carter actually going, has anyone watched that at all? In contrast to all the other Marvel stuff I haven't yet seen the whole internet running up in arms about this thing. But the critics seemed to like it.

1:02 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yes, Deadshot is a character in Arrow, in fact they even use him and a few others as part of the Suicide Squad in the show. screenrant.com/arrow-suicide-squad-image-characters
From left to right the characters are: Slipknot, Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, Rick Flagg, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, El Diablo, with Katana kneeling in front.
So @NapoleonWilson, guessing you don't really care for Harley Quinn?
Also, higher res image of the group shot: i.imgur.com/XgXiev5.jpg

@MattD Well, I only know her from the Batman Animated Series and from the Arkham games, and there she was just annyoing, but I guess she is supposed to be.
@MattD Oh, I remember the episode where Deadshot and a bunch of other prisoners worked together on some mission for this CIAesque whatever organization. So that was supposed to be that Suicide Squad?

You guys have no idea how excited I was to catch that Evolution question. It's been quite the item of conversation in the past.

@NapoleonWilson I really like her, especially if you watch the episode Mad Love (towards the end of the series run), you learn how Joker basically used her and turned her into what she is today.
@NapoleonWilson And yes, that was the Suicide Squad. The name of the episode is, "Suicide Squad", and though Waller refers to them as Task Force X, one of the members casually jokes that they're, "More of a suicide squad." They even have an allusion to Harley Quinn in the episode. :P
Actually, Arrow has been dropping tons of refferences to other heroes and villains in the second and third seasons (as much as I've seen of the third season, anyway). Flash also drops a lot of names, but definitely seems to be more closely invovled with its own mythos, which is appropriate as his Rogues have usually kept to themselves.

@Catija Uhuh. (o_O) Well, it was a fun movie, of course that strange period system explanation is utter rubbish, but well, the whole movie is. I would have guessed some mention of the term "product placement" in a possible answer, though (and also in the question, but afterall the asker just didn't seem to get that stupid in-movie explanation.)
But it seems that thing is also Hot (not that the answer wouldn't have deserved an up-vote anyway).

4:26 PM
@NapoleonWilson I'm not sure why I enjoyed it so much... And, wow, the answer has gotten a lot of upvotes. Can you imagine if they'd decided to use... some other selenium source, like tuna?

@MattD Oh god, it must be 15-20 years that I saw the Animated Series (Oh my, makes me sad that I can actually remember things from 20 years ago, even if only apparitionally ;-().
@MattD Well, I guess that got lost to the translation, since they translated the episode title and probably also its in-dialog mention in a simple literal way, which isn't a particularly uncommon or ungeneral term. Had they just called them "Suicide Squad" in the German version, too, I would have rather guessed that it is supposed to be some kind of "special" thing.
@MattD Yeah, there's probably millions of things I didn't realize have an actual background outside the show, but the good thing is that it is still a very engaging show for non-insiders. One might have greater enjoyment if you can smile at every second mentioned character name, but you don't have to.
But The Flash seems way more light-hearted and, well, comicky than Arrow. Considering its mood and atmosphere it has his companions more among its competitors from the other big comics name rather than its Man of Steel and Dark Knight brothers. But well, I can enjoy both shows for what they are, but as much as I like the crossover episodes, they have to make sure to not cross them over too much. Speaking of which I'm looking foward to tonight's two Arrow episodes. \o/

4:43 PM
@NapoleonWilson I own all of Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited on DVD. :P DC's animated universe (DCAU) was a huge part of my younger years, and a lot of it still holds up incredibly well. For lots of DC fans in the US, the Batman series is basically our official version of Batman, the one we always refference.
@NapoleonWilson I figured it could have been a matter of translation. Sorry if my phrasing came off a bit cocky, as that wasn't my intent.

@MattD Oh, it didn't, no fear.

@NapoleonWilson I totally agree that there's plenty for non-fans to really enjoy, but lots of little bits of lore and "name drops" for fans to pick up on. I seriously have to restrain myself from using Wikipedia watching Arrow, Flash or Gotham because of something I heard that I know has more significant meaning.

@MattD Well, as a fan of great story-telling, audiovisual atmosphere and amazing soundtracks and an overall great cinematic experience, it's not hard to see which is my official Batman version. ;-P

Flash is definitely more comic-y, but I like it the best of DC's shows at the moment. They have fun, they're building a solid world and franchise, and it just feels like a show I've wanted for the character for a while now.

I actually planned to revisit the Animated Series some day, especially since I think my 10-12 year old self might not have been able to fully appreciate this thing to its fullest.

4:47 PM
@NapoleonWilson I wasn't sure how big the show was in Germany. I know that there are things here that are big to American culture (eg, The Sound of Music) that you don't quite get, per previous conversations, though last I heard from you you'd not seen it yet. :P
Oh yeah, it's absolutely a great show on a whole other level as an adult. There are tones that I don't think kids would really pick up on that you do as an adult.

@MattD Uh, what show (are you referencing the right comment)?

@NapoleonWilson Batman: The Animated Series.

@MattD Well, it got marketed pretty much as a kids' show and got sent in the Saturday morning stuff, but I liked it quite a bit. I think it also used Danny Elfman's great soundtrack from the Burton's, right?
The point is that there is by FAR not that huge comics culture here as there seems to be in the US (or other countries). I know no-one who ever read a single Marvel/DC comic and you would count pretty much as a total geek, I mean total, if you did (and I'm talking as a student of computer science, for that matter). So comics stuff is primarily seen as kids' stuff. It is only with the recent cinematic developments that this seems to change at least slightly.

@NapoleonWilson It wasn't straight from Elfman's soundtrack, but was inspired by it, adding its own flares here and there I believe. Only thing I think was actually Elfman's was the opening credit's theme. The rest was inspired by Elfman's work on the Burton films, as well as music from 1940s noir pieces.
@NapoleonWilson Ah, gotcha. Yeah, comics and cartoons are still fairly largely seen as things for kids here, but lots of adults who grew up in the 80s and 90s are changing that.
I mean when you think about it, Batman: TAS is almost borderline not for kids in some aspects. It's very psychological, and if I recall correctly it was the first cartoon in decades where the badguys actually use guns with the intent to kill Batman and others.

think I might go see age of ultron tonight
or furious 7
or maybe even both

4:55 PM
Oh right, I haven't even seen Furious 7 yet.

@Flyk That's like 5 hours of movies. @_@

I know
I found a cinema close that is showing both but because age of ultron is like 141 mins I'd miss the first 15 minutes of furious 7

But go for Age of Ultron, of course. So you can ask and answer great questions until friday (yeah, I know I know, you don't give a damn about any challenge, but still).

I found out HBO has Fast & Furious 6 for streaming, so I'll likely catch that this week to see Furious 7 at some point. Also still need to see Age of Ultron. Family drama surroudning my wedding managed to take away any time I had to see it this weekend.

@NapoleonWilson meh topic challenges

4:56 PM
There's usually 15 minutes of previews, anyway... unless you've already allowed for that.

@Catija I like watching previews, personally. :P

@MattD Yeah, they had Furious 5 on TV recently and I continued right away with Furious 6 on Prime. So I actually was very well-prepared. But somehow the cinema visit just didn't happen.

@MattD I do, too, I'm just pointing out that if she's worried about missing parts of the film, it's less of an issue.

@Catija I know, but I'd like to think the avid film goers among us would always opt to watch the previews. Guess I'm just feeling a bit optimistic today. :P

You just got engaged and you're already dealing with wedding drama?

4:59 PM
Well, I like previews, too. But when you've seen the same trailers over and over just because you visit the cinema every friggin' week, you're also glad when the damn movie finally is released and you're spared from its trailer.

@Catija Yep. It's partially our fault, but it's mostly family members feeling entitled to our day and feeling hurt because we looked at costs after announcing a date to some of them, and relalized it was too much for us.
We wouldn't have a good financial footing starting out, and we just feel it's unethical and unreasonable to spend that kind of money on a damn wedding.
2

@MattD Have you ever heard of the Alamo Drafthouse? It's our local theater where you get to have a full dinner while watching the film. Getting there early is practically required so that you can order while the lights are still up, and they refuse to seat people after the film starts... and they have assigned seating.

@Catija Yeah, I'd love to visit one someday, or for one to be setup here in Columbus. Whenever I get out to visit my family in Texas I plan to go to one.

@Catija If this was a response to the wedding party discussion, then well, nice idea. ;-)

@Catija Lots of theaters are adding dine-in options, though. I know the two theaters in the area I help with marketing efforts have them/will have them.

5:01 PM
@MattD I completely understand. We had an afternoon wedding on a Sunday with 50 people at a friend's house. It wasn't cheap but it was a ton cheaper than a Saturday evening party.
@NapoleonWilson They do special events... Actually, we had our engagement photos taken there...

@Catija Well my fiancee is a youth pastor, so Sunday is out. The problems cost wise are we want to get married by Labor Day (due to her schedule), so we don't have much time to save for a nicer venue.

And, appropriate for today, we're both wearing Star Wars shirts :P

It was quickly spiraling upwards of $10k just for us, and various religious and social and philosophical reasons with us just made us feel that's rediculous and the money could be better spent elsewhere.
But now family is feeling left out because we're paring it down to just immediate family and very, very, very close friends. Some of them think we're valuing friends over family.

@MattD They used to offer franchising... but they're spreading rapidly. I know my sister in law would love to have one in Columbus.

@Catija Oh yeah, forgot you had family and/or were from around these parts.

5:04 PM
@MattD My husband is from Ohio :) His sister is at OSU right now.

@Catija Nice. Tell him, "O-H!" :D

I-O? I think I picked that one up :P

@Catija Nice. That's the correct response, minus the question mark. :P
I'm actually not a Buckeye, as I went to Ohio Dominican University. When a school you never applied to cold calls your house senior year of high school to offer you a $22k academic scholarship, you don't exactly say no.

@MattD I know what you're going through, though. We'd talked about combining our wedding and honeymoon by getting just about 10 people together in Hawaii but even that was crazy expensive and my dad refused to be OK with it. My mom loved the idea, though.

@MattD WUUUT? Oh, the ostentatious half-year salary weddings, speaking about US culture things.

Q: Will Vision only feature in Avengers movies?

JosephWill Vision have a standalone movie? Will he feature in other films, ie. Iron Man or Thor?

@NapoleonWilson Well, that's more like 1/8th my annual salary for my hourly contract, but that amount WOULD completely tap my savings, plus what I could reasonably save between now and then.

@MattD Wow, nice. Andy didn't go to OSU, either... he went to Wooster, actually.

@Catija Gotcha. Also a good school. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I'd gone to OSU based on cost, but ODU was still a good school.
@NapoleonWilson But yeah, throw in all the apartments near where we work are over $1200 a month, plus moving expenses and other various crap, it just wasn't in the books for us to run ourselves into possible debt for a single day of celebration.
Our religious and social convictions also make us feel like with everything else going on in the world, it's obscene to spend that kind of money on just us.
I was seething mad for 24 hours this weekend, but my future wife asked our head pastor to talk with us, and she set us straight. This is about us, this will not be the first decision we make for our family that will upset other family members, and even it if does this is about OUR family, not anyone else's.
It's not that we don't love them or don't want them to come, it's that we can't afford to have everyone here, especially if they want us to try and come to some things next year.

You're making the right choice, @MattD It's going to be difficult to deal with some of your family but remember that they're mostly disappointed about not being able to share the day with you and they're just reacting poorly. Enlist your parents, if you can, to support your decision and talk with them. You can always have a low-key non-"wedding" party later on, like a barbecue and invite them all to that.
2

@Catija We're doing that with my fiancee's family, and my uncle is retiring from the Navy next year so we'd like to get out there for that, fully realizing that the trip there is for him and not us in the process.
But yeah, was just a weekends of ups and downs and no Age of Ultron as a result.

5:12 PM
That's what we were planning to do when we were considering having the wedding in Hawaii... We'd have had a party in Ohio for Andy's family and one in San Antonio for my dad's friends.
@MattD Poor guy. You should sneak off from work and go see it (assuming your fiance wouldn't kill you for not taking her).

@MovieReel Hmm... (^_o)

@Catija She's not really into those types of movies, so she won't kill me.
Something like Hunger Games and the Divergent series, though? She may have words with me. :P
Thank GOD she's not into Twilight, though, even if that franchise is done (for now).
I'm hoping to see Age of Ultron either tomorrow or at least this week with a good buddy of mine.

@MattD Worse if she was into that Twilight-with-whips spinoff.

@NapoleonWilson She is not into that.
Anyway, let us get back to discussing movies, which is more entertaining and worthwhile than my familial woes. :P
You guys see the new pics for The Force Awakens? imgur.com/a/8x8Dn

Hmm, ok, so that's supposed to be the new evil guy.
And Lupita Nyongo as Jar Jar, hmm.

5:19 PM
@NapoleonWilson I really doubt she'll be as bad as Jar Jar. In fact, apparently Abrams said in an interview he's considering adding bones somewhere in a scene on the new desert planet to indicate Jar Jar is dead. :P

I finally got me LEGO Star Wars from Steam. Quite fun, like the LEGO games pretty much.

I just like how real everything feels. People in costumes, BB-8 is a practical effect and not CG (for all its shots anyway), so I'm getting the impression, more and more, that this will feel like Star Wars again.

@MattD Who's BB-8, that football thing?

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, the little ball droid. It's an actual droid prop, not a CG effect.

So he's gonna have a bigger role as a stand-in R2?

5:22 PM
@NapoleonWilson No idea, but remember they showed R2 in the latest trailer.

So maybe one can answer that already existing question about this prop.

@NapoleonWilson I'm pretty sure they confirmed that as the actual droid prop and not a CG version. The one thing I'd point out is in the trailer BB-8 is traversing desert sand/ground, which is far more bumpy and uneven than a stage floor in California.
Yet probably just as dry. :P
