Thanks! Did you read my message here about the Breakin Bad question a few minutes ago? Because it suddenly vanished...
forgot @NapoleonWilson :)

@MaxD No, what message?

I agree with everything except the removal of the word »still«
We know for sure that Gus was planning to kill Walt before Gale's death, so I think that word is essential for the question to make sense, isn't it?

@randal'thor
Done.

@Axelrod Be careful...

@randal'thor I've said what needed said.

12:17 AM
@MaxD I wasn't entirely sure if one might regard that as a spoiler (which was the reason for removing Gale's death). While spoilers in the question body are absolutely no problem, they should be kept out of question titles.
@MaxD But as for the question making sense. Your question should always make sense without the question title. The title is to summarize the essence of the question but it should never be used to complete the actualy question as asked in the question body. The question body is always to be fully self-contained. So if your question in the body makes sense, then it does.

I'm out of date on those movies, but I always assumed at least one of the two main characters would die.

@MaxD But feel free to reintroduce that "still", it's not a big issue and if you think its absence is detrimental to the question, you can as well add it back in.

Q: Movie Sequel Tag naming convention

cdeThere is some inconsistencies in how tag names for various movies are created. This is to clear up how they should be named, based on existing examples. So here is my proposed approach for movie series and sequels: Primary movies should be tagged accurately. It will also serve as the franchise t...

@NapoleonWilson Ok, thanks for clarifying, if you think without »still« it's better I'll not change it back. At least you have a Diamond and 2700 times my rep ;)
Ok, its only 270 times :P

@MaxD I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

12:42 AM
@NapoleonWilson Haha thanks then :D

@Axelrod Because I'm usually picky and specific about what I want, so I have to ask myself, "Will this person pay attention and only consider the exact version/item specified, or will they see the non-collector's edition that's cheaper and buy that one instead?"

@MattD I see. Yeah, I understand that.

Then there's things like Mad Max: Fury Road being on that list for $8. I really want that movie, and while I won't be upset or mad with my brother (who drew my name for Christmas this year) doesn't get it for me, it'll still suck that it was $8 and I could have just as easily bought it myself.

Maybe you should tell him that, hah

I plan to inform him that two of the three movies on my list are lightening deals tomorrow, but the fact they aren't all-day, regular deals is also problematic.
He works nights as a private security officer.

12:53 AM
Oi vey

First world problems out the ass for sure, and it's not like I need any more movies, but here we are.

Christmas has become quite a bit weirder since the whole "growing up" thing.
I can only hope that anyone who wants to buy me something understands what I want!
Too many people with too little contact to make a secret santa list work.

Yeah, when I hit a certain age my mom told me to simply buy the "nerd" stuff I wanted during the Black Friday sales, and then she'd get me stuff for when I'd eventually move out and whatnot. Worked out quite well, actually.
Yeah, man, freaking The Kingsman is on sale for $10 right now, so I'm like do I put that on a list or just buy it for myself right now?

1:09 AM
Buy it, then return it if you get it hah

8:31 AM
@DanielStowers I can see the subjective nature of films, and many of my reviews deal with that subjective nature when I am giving my opinion. But to deny that there are also objective things about films is intellectually dishonest.
@MattD Yes, significantly. Because I can parse why I liked what I liked much better, and understand how it worked in the way it worked and how difficult that must have been to pull off.

8:51 AM
@DrRDizzle You're being utterly subjective about this film. That makes you impossible to have a sane discussion over films with.

@DanielStowers When you say "this film", are you talking about Man of Steel?
Because when I was asked to explain why Man of Steel was an objectively bad film, I talked about it's internal thematic inconsistencies and the dishonesty about the way it presents itself, as well as the ways in which the film misunderstands the character it is based around. Whether or not you like or can accept these things is subjective and varies from person to person - but they objectively exist within the film.

9:20 AM
We like to pretend that all art is subjective because it validates our opinions as mattering as much as other peoples, but that's nonsense. If I draw a line on a piece of paper, there is no way that it is as good as or better than the Mona Lisa - objectively, it simply isn't.
There are objectively good films, films that achieve what they intended to do, films with objectively good performances and shot composition. And you don't have to like them for that to still be true.
And that means that there are also objectively bad films, and it doesn't matter how large the budget or how many people like it - it still does things that objectively don't work, failing to do what it intends to do.
And you are still allowed to like these films. Millions of people do. But denying their flaws (or worse, trying to invalidate them because it's "subjective") is reductive, doesn't further either the art form or the conversation surrounding it and it intellectually dishonest.
Maybe I was being overly harsh when I said that Man of Steel was an objectively bad film - but objectively, it contains too many flaws to be considered a good film by anyone who is willing to try and divorce their opinion from the film itself before taking a look at it.
My favourite film ever is The Departed, by Martin Scorsese. But I can recognise it's flaws without that changing the way I feel about the film. I can see that it isn't the best film ever made, that it isn't the best film I've seen - hell, it isn't even Scorsese's best film. But it is still my favourite, and that's OK.
Does any of that explain where I am coming from here? I'm not trying to be a dick.

10:17 AM
@DrRDizzle this time i am out of discussion ;)
I am busy sorting a-holes in ignore list

What do people have to do to get iggied?

@DrRDizzle Well, interesting that you bring this up this way, as I'm sure the minimalist and suprematist artists might actually disagree with you on that.

@DanielStowers being a-hole is enough i think.

@DrRDizzle And where you see "internal thematic inconsistencies" I don't see none, neither do I think it misuderstood its character or failed to achieve what it set out for. You don't really want to get it, do you? It's not in the failure of the movie to achieve what you chose to measure it against, it is already the premise you chose to measure the film against that is largely subjective. Claiming otherwise is not objectivity but arrogance.

10:35 AM
I think with a film like Birdemic you can get away with calling it an objective fail (except as unintentional comedy), and most people wouldn't argue your point. But given the amount of people who DID like MOS (including plenty of solid fans of comics in general and Supes in particular) that you simply cannot use that term without being (rightly) challenged. And again - if someone DIDN'T like MOS and have a well-reasoned argument for that point of view, that's fine. But it's a subjective point.

11:01 AM
Friday morning here - anyone else awake?

Friday :O
Still Thursday 4:31 P.M.

GMT+12 here!

Yeah weird timezones :!

@NapoleonWilson I really doubt it. My lines aren't even very straight.
But that was just an example - I'm sure you can see my point here.
@NapoleonWilson In the case of Man of Steel, I've already talked about how the film insists that Clark is a good guy at heart despite his actions for much of the film (and I'm talking micro, not macro) saying otherwise. It is things like this where the film fails.
And being able to see that a film is aiming for something and missing is important, and is actually the only way to objectively look at a film. Where did it want to do, and did it succeed? This is entirely separate to "Did I like what the film was trying to do".
I think there is a time and a place for deeper analysis of films and the ways in which they can be objectively judged, and I assumed that a chatroom on a site dedicated to films and TV would be one of these places.

11:52 AM
@DrRDizzle Sure, there was an inconsistency to you, and that's fine.
@DrRDizzle Sure, but I'm still not sure the film did miss what it aimed at, objectively.

@NapoleonWilson The inconsistency exists whether you like it or not. It is in the film, and even if you are choosing to ignore it (which you quite obviously are) it still remains one of the ways in which Man of Steel is at odds with itself.

@DrRDizzle Of course there is a place for deeper analysis of films and the ways in which they can be reasonably judged, and this site is that place. What I'm not sure about is where you actually pose your viewpoint as ultimate objective truth, which it isn't, as reasonably reasoned it might ever be.

@NapoleonWilson Here's the thing though - my subjective opinion on Man of Steel (that I don't like it) is informed by those mostly objective criticisms that I stated yesterday, not the other way around. I'm all too happy to point out objective flaws in films that I love, but for some reason people really get mad when you point them out in films you don't love.

@DrRDizzle "my subjective opinion on Man of Steel (that I don't like it) is informed by those mostly objective criticisms that I stated yesterday" - Sure it is, so what? Noone said your criticisms aren't objectively guided. But they're just not the whole truth on the matter.
@DrRDizzle I don't care if you like the film or not. Simply don't say stuff like a film is "objectively bad because I chose those reasons and interpretations to base that on" if you want to come a cross as a reasonable film critic/analyst. Say that it is "bad" how much you want. That easy really.

@NapoleonWilson But you're acting like it is impossible to take an objective look at art, which is blatantly false. At no point have I ever said that anyone is wrong to like Man of Steel, and every criticism I have made of it has been accompanied with a reason. And yet somehow I'm the arrogant one for daring to suggest that films are worthy of deeper consideration beyond "how did I feel about this".

12:05 PM
@DrRDizzle It is not impossible to objectively reason about a film, neither are our "feelings" supposed to be the only base to ground any assessment on. You chose a particular objectively informed viewpoint to look at the film and came to the conclusion that the film as you interpreted it failed according to that viewpoint and this is fine and might be more objective than simply saying "I liked it". But it still isn't the entire ultimate truth but still depends on your viewpoint.

@NapoleonWilson I've never claimed it to be the entire ultimate truth.

Which a statement like "objectively bad" doesn't do then?

@NapoleonWilson Not when I've stated time after time that people are still allowed to like it.
And the fact that people have twisted my criticism of Man of Steel to mean that I must be a Marvel fanboy is so strange to me. It's almost like they know the film has issues, but would rather paint me as a "rival" rather than acknowledge that, and I see that all over the Internet whenever a divisive movie comes out.

@DrRDizzle It isn't simply about ultimate objective truth vs "liking" either. Drgh, nevermind, whatever.

@NapoleonWilson its much easier to just accept that he hates everything and move on.

12:18 PM
@DrRDizzle Which I didn't do, though. You obviously are a Marvel fan, but I wouldn't deduce that simply from your Man of Steel criticism. Neither is being that a bad thing.
@MikeEdenfield He is free to hate whatever he wants to hate, as long as doesn't pose it as the whole objective truth.

@DrRDizzle that has a lot to do with the fact that you dislike Arrow and Flash because of how bad their initial episodes were, yet you love Agents of SHIELD who's initial episodes were, as you might put it, "objectively terrible"

@MikeEdenfield that one annoyed me too

@NapoleonWilson Being a Marvel fan and being a film fan and being a DC fan are not mutually exclusive though. I'm only a "Marvel fan" because the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have earned my praise - in contrast, DC are still starting out and have yet to impress me. I really am just basing this stuff on what I see - I don't even really read comics, so it's not like I am projecting pre-existing feelings onto these films.

As a complete non-comics person I couldn't give a shit about the Marvel/DC feud (apart from the fact that Batman is da best hero eva, 100% objectively! ;-P), I simply enjoy and like good movies.

best "her" ever?

12:22 PM
@MikeEdenfield I have no idea what you're talking about.

Batmans a WOMAN?

@MikeEdenfield Yes, I stuck with Agents of SHIELD because I wanted it to get better in spite of the early episodes being significantly underwhelming and in a lot of ways objectively and inherently flawed. But I've never tried to hide that about Agents of SHIELD.

@DrRDizzle Sure, and what I see DC is making fine movies so far, even if not as many as Marvel yet.

but yet you were not willing to afford the same benefit of the doubt to the two extremely popular and successful DC-based TV Shows. That is where the fanboy accusation comes from.

@MikeEdenfield I watched 8 episodes of Arrow before ditching it. And I still intend on watching the rest of The Flash when I have the time.
Meanwhile, I'm pumped for both of next years DC/Warner Bros films, and am enjoying watching Supergirl each week.

I have no clue what it is.

@steelerfan prequel/spin-off to the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman
The Huntsman: Winter's War is an upcoming American dark fantasy action-adventure film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, a prequel/spin-off to the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman. The film is based on the characters from the German fairy tale "Snow White" compiled by the Brothers Grimm. The script is written by Frank Darabont, David Koepp, Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Nick Frost. Principal photography began on April 6, 2015. The film is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2016. == PlotEdit == Long...

Does it have Chris Hemsworth?

Yeah

Nevermind.

Only Stewart is removed
And the director
After that controversy

I saw the first one. Not a huge Hemsworth fan. I liked him in Thor and that racing movie. Other than that, he doesn't do a lot for me. I believe I am the only female on the planet willing to say that.

@steelerfan Did someone mention the best handegg team?

@DrRDizzle Its your iggy day today

@AnkitSharma I have no idea what that means.

@DrRDizzle You hang out in Mos too much. Are you officially joining the "let's heckle Steelerfan" crowd? ;))

@steelerfan Only when someone talks about my beloved Patriots.

@DrRDizzle Well, YOUR Patriots are 1 of 2 teams currently undefeated which makes me both sad and nauseated. Pretty sure they will be in Superbowl again. <jumping off building>

@steelerfan I liked first one but Stewart's acting annoyed me and this time she is not there. So i am positive

@AnkitSharma Heh, really? That's funny.

@AnkitSharma She annoys me in anything. Please tell me that none of you in here like Twilight.

I don't like sparkling vampires

@DrRDizzle No :(

@steelerfan She has surprisingly good chemistry with not-Michael Cera, whose name I can't remember right now.

I am petitioning to have any and all Patriots meme removed from this room ;)
@DrRDizzle That would be good to see. I can't see her having chemistry with anyone.

I don't think she's attractive at all.

@steelerfan his taste buds are on wrong place

@DrRDizzle Yes, I am a woman. 100%. I promise.

@steelerfan I've lowered it to 95% now. One does think one protests too much.

@DrRDizzle I know, so am I :))

@DrRDizzle the guy who played Facebook dude?
Jesse Eisenburg (?)

5:19 PM
@MikeEdenfield That's him. It was Jesse "don't call me Micheal Cera" Eissenburg in the end

@MikeEdenfield You so smart :)

I really thought American Ultra would be better.
I like Eisenburg; Stewart was playing to type (braindead stoner chick); and the premise sounded decent -- manchurian candidate meets generation-y
she's really a decent actress, she's just not nearly as versatile as she thinks.

Wait. Is that the one where they work at an amusement park?

@MikeEdenfield So did I. I quite like Chronicle, which American Ultra writer Max Landis also wrote, but I found American Ultra entirely forgettable.

no.. he works at a convenience store, I think.

5:22 PM
@steelerfan Thats Adventureland

never saw Adventureland

I have seen one with Eisenburg and Stewart. That one was ok.

then it was probably Adventureland
I've heard that was a better movie.
she does well in the indy-type roles and supporting-type roles.

@MikeEdenfield It is.

but every movie I've seen her try to carry it doesn't work out.

also starring Chloe Grace Moretz, apparently

Hmmmm, interesting. I was highly anticipating the bio pic she did about Joan Jett. I was so disappointed when I saw it.

you mean The Runaways?

Yes, that's it.

that wasn't really "about Joan Jett" as much as it was about the band and the producer, but I haven't seen it.

Hasn't that got Dakota Fanning in too?

5:30 PM
though Joan Jett and Cherie Currie were the main focus.
yeah I think she plays Cherie Currie

Yeah, I know it was about the band, but she played Joan Jett. I thought she would be great for that role, but she didn't impress me.

and someone who's name I don't know as Lita Ford.

@steelerfan Ohhh , i will adore that

Yeah, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Lita Ford actually had a successful solo career in 80's.
@AnkitSharma That will make everyone in Mos explode. I never heard the end of it lastnight ;)

Well, so did Joan Jett :)
I'm kinda surprised they were all so traumatized they never left their houses again

5:33 PM
Yeah, Joan Jett is obviously the most successful. I was just trying to explain who Lita Ford was :)

Cherie Currie apparently makes a living carving wood sculptures with a chainsaw.

Yeah, I saw that a few years ago on VH1. Joan Jett looks awesome. She hasn't aged.

Understatement of the decade: Ban Affleck on Batman vs. Superman.

Lol

You do realize that Dr D is still in here, right?

5:37 PM
he can't hate BvS. yet.

@MikeEdenfield I'm looking forward to it.

objective badness aside, how did MoS do financially?
cuz really, that's all they're gonna care about.

I can't wait for Dr D to see it...... :)

I just hope they never have Superman kill anyone again.
dark and gritty is one thing but that's taking it a bit far.

@MikeEdenfield Not as good as they wanted. It cost Avengers money to make, and made less than Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

5:40 PM
they're already about done filming Suicide Squad, I believe, but if BvS doesn't perform, that'll probably be the last of DCEU

@MikeEdenfield Nah, they've started filming Wonder Woman. The wheels are in motion, there is very little chance of this train stopping before Justice League now.

genius idea: sell the Justice League rights to Marvel Studios :)
@DrRDizzle If BvS bombs they'll find a way not to make Wonder Woman
or at least, not pay to market & distribute it

@MikeEdenfield I can't even imagine the think piecews
At long last, my spoiler-free review of the first season of Jessica Jones is ready for your eyes.

@NapoleonWilson Do you know how cool you are that you know that Packers/Bears is a classic game? Just sayin'...... :)

@steelerfan Well, that actually seeped into general pop-cultural knowledge long before I got interested in football, though.

@NapoleonWilson OK, nevermind. You aren't cool ;)
So, I have my tickets!!!! Major excitement!!!!

I paid $320 for a book from England, and it hasn't arrived. I'm checking the letterbox every 30 minutes.

@DanielStowers Yeah, I know the feeling!!
I had to get mine from family, but it still took forever!!

9:04 PM
I'm like a postman stalker :/
Ha ha ... glad it's a common thing ...

My brother in law actually bought these tickets from season ticket holders and he did it on-line. I was really nervous until I actually saw them :)
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I guess.
@NapoleonWilson So, I am nervous about posting my ticket info on-line. More than happy to give you the info on an e-mail account. If not, just know that I will be around the 20 yard line in and around the 200 section.

Is scalping big in the US? It's atrocious here. Sports AND concerts, etc.

Yes. It is big around US. We don't have a pro football team here, but we have basketball and there are always scalpers. Also, for concerts. They're everywhere.

So Can't Understand Moneygrubbers ...

I hear ya......

9:15 PM
Oh, before I forget - did anyone see Affleck in that film up there? ^

I did. George Reeves bio-pic?

Yup. Only really worth it because Ben dies. Oops. Not like I'm calling it an objectively bad film. Actually ... it might be the thing I like him in the most.

I agree. I actually liked him in that. Not a huge Affleck fan though.

@steelerfan Ah, no problem, I understand that. I'll try to spot you anyway. But what's a 200 section? And what 20 yard line, or which side?

@NapoleonWilson Visiting side. The 200 section is like behind the very front section where people have banners and stuff hanging off of the side. I will be sitting around men :(

9:30 PM
@steelerfan What's visiting side, though? With all those side switches that's hard to tell. And which side of the line?

@NapoleonWilson I will be sitting behind the Steelers bench. So, that side and where the 20 yard line is, I will be back there. Would you still like me to hold the sign up? ;)

@steelerfan Sure. ;-) Wow, so you'll be right behind the team?

@NapoleonWilson Yes, I will be behind the team. Not RIGHT behind them, I will be in the next section back. I will still be able to see all of my heroes...... AND my boyfriend, Jon Gruden will be there. Woot!!

Ah, I see, with a seat map of the stadium those numbers are much easier to understand. Makes sense now.

Good. Now, to explain to the rest of my party what the "I heart Napoleon" sign stands for..... hehehehe ;) I will definitely have an "I heart Jon Gruden" sign. I HAVE to have that one! That will definitely get me on TV :)
<hearts fluttering in air>

9:42 PM
@steelerfan Meh.

@NapoleonWilson You and Wad are the same! It's not so much what he looks like, he is just really, really cool. My husband actually had him in our wedding vows. "Since Jon Gruden is already married, I am glad to be #2".......hehehehe :)

@steelerfan Whatever the name, I guess your male companions will be glad about someone holding an "i heart" sign in their group anyway. ;-P

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I met them lastnight. They seem really cool. We will see what happens......
@NapoleonWilson What's the score of the Panther/Cowboy game?

@steelerfan 10:0 for the Panthers so far, they just made a field goal.

@NapoleonWilson Yes!! Panthers are my favorite NFC team. Hope they can stay undefeated.

10:11 PM
@NapoleonWilson Will you be giving me the score after each quarter, or will you leave me hanging again? ;)

10:45 PM
@steelerfan Interception touchdown, 20:3! And what does Romo do right after that interception touchdown? Throw another interception, this time without touchdown at least.
@steelerfan We'll see. I'm a little rundown tonight, but I'll try.

11:00 PM
@NapoleonWilson God. Romo sucks!
@NapoleonWilson No worries. Get some rest :)

11:14 PM
@NapoleonWilson I feel bad for bothering you. Sorry :(

11:25 PM
@steelerfan No problem, you don't need to. I'll definitely watch 'em all anyway, was looking forward to it the whole week. I'm just not sure if I'll get to get up from the couch that often. But I hope the Aspirin helps.
That being said, Newton just tightly dodged a safety during their first drive in the second half. But maybe the Cowboys can do a bit more now, at least they'll have a nice start for their drive, right on the middle line.

@NapoleonWilson Sorry you're not feeling well. Poor guy. Thanks for the updates :)

11:58 PM
@steelerfan Meh, I guess it's more a mental thing anyway.
30:6 and Romo is injured again. I don't think the last quarter will bring any big surprises anymore.

@NapoleonWilson Sorry. I know you're a man of few words, so I won't bother you about it.
