@ChristianRau I find lots of value in Netflix, and I still pay for cable. Lots of people here in the US generally subscribe to Netflix and other streaming services to get away from cable, but I find it to be a nice compliment (and I can afford both). I've been a Netflix subscriber since February 2006, before they had streaming. Never had an issue with the service. Absolutely love it.
Just got back from seeing Annabelle. Definitely worth seeing, especially if you saw and enjoyed The Conjuring.

Q: Is Gwyneth Paltrow’s head shown?

Steven PennyDuring the climax of the movie Seven, the audience is lead to believe that Mills’ wife, Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), has been killed and her head is in the box. At any point in any version of the film, even for one frame, is her severed head actually shown? I have not seen the head myself upon watc...

Q: Need help identifying a movie

maukriI'm trying to identify a movie that I watched years ago as a kid. My memory of this movie is vague and incomplete, and I've been searching the internet to no avail. It's driving me absolutely crazy. Here's what I remember. It takes place in the old west (ish) of the United States (I think). The...

Q: Why did they change the Lily 3 times?

AnkitI am watching Modern family and I am currently on season 3. In Modern family, season 1 Lily is played by Jaden. In season 2 by Ella Hiller and from season 3 Aubrey Anderson-Emmons. What is the reason behind these frequent changes ? Did the creators want to show a much grown up Lily by season 3 ?

@MattD I heard that even for The Conjuring enthusiasts (and I liked that one) it was still rather crap, but that's just hearsay I admit. But I'm not such a big horror, let alone ghost/possession, ethusiast in the first place and actually only watched The Conuring because of the amazing critics it received.
@MattD I registered just to try the free month and see how it goes. But I have to say the assortment isn't overwhelming for now. Many shows that I already watch(ed) on TV or ones I'm not too interested in anyway. And the movies are mostly famous stuff I watched anyway already or stuff that doesn't look much promising otherwise.
I thought I'd find some old pearls I didn't see for a long time or not yet at all, like Obsession, Sisters, or Sorcerer, but if they have old stuff at all, then it's not too old or famous enough to run on TV up and down. But at least I'm going to try Penny Dreadful and Firefly, maybe even Breaking Bad or Hemlock Grove. But some of this stuff I was about to stream "inofficially" anyway.
But maybe they're just ctaching up and will enlarge (or rather originalize) their repertoire in the future, afterall they just started in September and might for now be sastisfied with the casual viewers anway. I should maybe have waited some time with my free month, but well, I could just make a little revisit in half a year, that might be worth my 9€ (thought it was 8, but well, who doesn't want HD nowadays).

jackkorbinI am looking for a inspirational movie in which a boy which is poor (either dumb, or dumped by gf because of less money, left by parents because of inactivity, cursed by world because of stupidity, or anything) finally works hard and make it big. Q: Revisionist westerns of the 70's

CGCampbellWhy are many movies of the 70's called revisionist? If I look up many of Eastwood's westerns, they would be found in a search of 'revisionist westerns'. Why are they called that?

Not sure how Netflix is being run overseas, but I know when streaming first started they didn't have a whole heck of a lot to pick from. May just take some time to get the ball rolling. If the Netflix original series are available, I highly recommend watching House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Arrested Development.

Q: Are there any characters in movies about slavery that are identifiably Jewish?

user8547I've seen maybe dozens of movies about slavery, particularly the Atlantic Slave Trade, and slavery in the Americas. But as far as I can recall the slavers are depicted as being various types of white (and often Christian), but never identifiable as Jewish.

7:10 PM
@MattD Seen both seasons of House of Cards already (on "classic" TV afterall), and they don't yet seem to have the Netflix-procuded 4th season of Arrested Development (though, I'd love to watch that). Not so much interested in Orange is the New Black. I just tried the 1st episode of Hemlock Grove but it didn't really grip me that much. But I've just watched Winter's Bone (though I'm sure it would have been on TV anyway sooner or later, if it wasn't yet), and it was really good.

7:44 PM
@ChristianRau Shall I bum you out about AD4? ;)
I'll just advise you to really lower your expectations. You might just be able to stomach it if you do. And seconding the Winter Bone praise.
Saw Take Shelter for the first time. It was good, but I'm not sure I liked that choice of ending.
Was also impressed with the intensity of Rust and Bone, though protagonist Ali was a bit of a doofus. :)

8:36 PM
@ChristianRau Huh, didn't know they aired it on regular TV overseas. That's pretty cool. I also wasn't sure I'd like Orange is the New Black, but of all the Netflix Originals, it's the only one I've watched every episode of. And yeah, Hemlock Grove seems to be the odd one out of the bunch. I haven't read anything positive for it, and apparently it only got a second season because Netflix had already paid for it.
Regarding AD4, I think its biggest problem is they focus on single characters each episode, so the continuity of the story doesn't make sense until about episode 4. I think there's a list of out there with an order that supposedly works better.

9:03 PM
@MattD Not just the continuity; separating the characters mainly killed the funny. The best aspect of this show was the interactions between all these characters! Who in their right mind would dispose of that? Not to mention the fact that focusing on a single character for 30+ minutes also killed the pacing, and (quite surprisingly) proved that some AD characters can't carry an entire episode.

9:34 PM
I think the only reason Hannibal is survivng on NBC is that they're so worried about how badly they'll be killed by Netflix when they buy it
And if you're looking for recommendations Chris, I heard all the Joel era MST3k is on Netflix in pretty decent quality

9:50 PM
@MrLore Uh, you with your MST3K again. I don't know much about it, but I'm not too inclined to learn more about it either. Sorry, but the concept of just watching an entire (and awful) movie just for jokes (if I understood that concept correctly) might give a bit of fun, or might work for some movies, but I'm not going to check hours of that stuff with totally irrelevant movies for this. I might deprive me of surprising fun this way, but that's the way it is.
I should rather have chosen Maxdome instead of Netflix. They have the free month too and seem to have much more stuff (at least they seem to have all the recent DVD releases), including Hanibal (which I might like to revisit). It seems they're just around much longer. But well, before the recent Netflix hype I didn't consider to try such a streaming service at all and I always thought Maxdome requires much more elaborate contracts, but it's just as easy as Netflix, it seems.
But well, I can take their free month after Netflix's afterall.
@MrLore But nevermind, everybody has his favourite stuff. I'm not complaining that nobody cares for my It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Miami Vice questions either. ;-)
But it's nice to see that the favourite questions/answers discussion has a bit more starting traction this time. Still compiling my own list, but it's a complicated review. Though, I have the impression this quater is generally weaker than the last one. At least there's fewer stuff that's really outstanding.

10:07 PM
Certainly for the month at least, my rep graph has started to level out
I think I just need to watch more movies, or more movies that people can't say "It's just an x bro, relax"
Where x is a comic book movie, comedy or poorly-written anything

@MrLore Well, that's never a proper answer anyway. People giving that answer are on the wrong site. Now, you giving that answer to yourself and not asking the question in the first place is an entirely different thing. My great plot-understanding and ability to use Wikipedia have robbed me of quite a bunch of interesting questions.

Q: The Butterfly Effect

AnonymousSorry for my english, but I got a question I can't figure out. During the movie "The Butterfly Effect" Evan's mother said she have had babies before, but they all died. He was "the miracle" baby. What does this mean? Why did the other babies die? Have they gone through the same thing as Evan?
