Rather than wait for someone to be here when you are, if you have something you want to talk about, just say it. People will drop in and look at it; most people will @ you so you'll see their replies in your notifications.

@Glen_b Indeed; I tend to leave my workstation on in the office (as it is invariably doing something computational in the background and to facilitate syncing my work to my laptop and home PC) and I have this and the Stack Overflow #R chat rooms open in my browser
