@Glen_b, congratulations on the tag badge. Those little buggers are hard to get.

Oh, thanks @gung. I haven't had a chance to try the extra privilege that comes with it.

@Glen_b, if you vote to close a Q w/ that tag as a duplicate, it closes automatically as though you were a moderator.
I've done this 3 times now, and it's shocked me each time--it's weird that my vote carries so much weight.
I'm pretty comfortable w/ those votes, though.

@gung thanks -- I had read that that's what it was, I just hadn't got to try it yet. I don't imagine it's something I'd do very often, because of that very reason - when I am one vote among many, the occasional misjudgement is no issue. When I'm the only vote, I'd want to be sure. If moderators were for some reason not around or not able to keep up I might be inclined to use it more. It's good that we have it in different tags - if it were ever needed we have the two most popular tags covered.
It seems to me there's a clever little abuse, which is to add the tag to a post that really needs to be closed. I can't imagine a situation where that should prove necessary, but I guess if there's some kind of unforseen need to close a post very quickly in the absence of a moderator, it's something that could be done. I imagine that would be very much frowned upon though.
I can't think of a good reason to ever need it. I can just conceive of situations where an OP might want to delete a post in a hurry ... but that's not something that would help with.

@gung well that was fast. I just did it then, quite by accident. I didn't register that I was marking as a duplicate one that would close right away. So now I have used my new superpowers.

@Glen_b, yeah I'd thought of that, but I've never done it (not yet...)

@gung Well I hope the question of whether it's necessary to do that particular thing never comes up.
