So reading all the links it seems that the best explanation is that a "histogram" is a "mast-drawing".
... which seems pretty straightforward to me, in that the intended sense of the term can be understood.

I wonder if you could actually construct a reasonable quasi-experimental design to test this given the data.
Or self experimentation is an option (which I have debated a few times on this site!)

I earned the tumbleweed batch for what I think is a well-formulated question. Meanwhile I figured out the answer and posted it. But it didn't receive much attention; is Cross Validated a poor place for my question, or is it simply too specialised (which is not the same as too localised)?
