Which news?
That Altidore is likely out for the tourney?

Nah, just the results of the USAvGhana game

Ya

k. I saw the word "delayed" and didn't want to spoil it for you :P

I love Univision, but the delayed feed is killing me. It messes up the replay timing :)
But honestly ... Portugal beats us by 2 if they play like they did today and we play like we did today

sigh sadly so
There is precedent that we bump portugual out of the groups (2002)
But that was different times, different teams :P

12:13 AM
There is also precedent that Beasley wasn't a piece of burnt toast in the backfield too
He got burnt all game

lol yes I noticed

@swasheck wait, DaMarcus Beasley is still playing football? I would've figured he'd be a fossil by now.

hi
I m havin query
i need to know difference between schema and database in oracle
and also difference between schema and tablespace .

@nitesh.kodle123 Did you read the answer to your question? dba.stackexchange.com/questions/68150/…

@nitesh.kodle123 Did you read any of the oracle docs?

yups
but its not clear in the article
I know collection of datafiles is table space and collection of tablespace is database.
But schema is defined as collection of database object where to fit in schema
I only asked the question
after being frustrated googling the difference
and asked question
but was not satisfied
with the article
can you help?

schema and schema_objects (tables, etc.) are logical structures.

can you please elaborate
as for database also i can say its a logical structure

12:27 PM
@nitesh.kodle123 What other DBMS call "database", Oracle calls "database schema" or just "schema".

If you have used to work with SQL-Server or other DBMS, Oracle has different terminology in that part.

thanks for this
its helpful
thats what happens when we compare more than one technology

A: Understanding execution plans using TVPs

wBobI don't think this query is about TVPs so much as complexity. The plan has an optimizer timeout. You can see it in the F4 properties of the SELECT operator as "Reason for Early Termination of Statement = Time Out" or StatementOptmEarlyAbortReason="TimeOut" in the plan xml. These are not always...

Check out the heroic SQLfiddle on that answer generated entirely from the execution plan. Deserves some upvote love, even if the answer itself is not perfect and the question is an iceberg.

Q: How to select specific rows if a column exists or all rows if a column doesn't

Matt S.I'm writing a script that gets a count of rows for a few tables, however for some tables I want to only get a count of rows where a flag is set (in this case active=1). Is there a way I can do this in one query? Eg: Table users has a column called active Table clients does not have a column c...

Q: What's a zip join? Have you ever heard of that, or a pairwise join?

MeredithThis section of Slick's documentation page is quite odd. What is this zip join? It says that it means: a pairwise join of two queries but what that means @.@ I don't know I've tried Googling for both "zip join" and "pairwise join"... but no results to do with databases. I'd never heard of it either.

I can't think of any sort of use case for it soooo.

2:13 PM
Makes little sense to me. Of course I also find little sense in expecting rows to be ordered in the same order they were inserted, but a lot of people think that is useful (or want it to work that way without having to add a column that could make that explicit)

So ... I kind of wanted to close this question as too-localized or something, but decided I didn't remember if we had a "canonical" version of this question/answer pair. Should we move it to Meta? Any thoughts on my answer and what should be said to improve it, other than "everybody has a different style, get over yourself"? dba.stackexchange.com/questions/68264/…
If we have a canonical version of this, I'll move my answer and we can close it as a dupe ;-)
(I mean, if there's not already a better answer, of course)

3:07 PM
@jcolebrand Why do you mention TSQL - when the question is about Postgres?

@ypercube to draw a distinction on styles and how various sources will use their own experience?
wait, do you mean on the line "there is no formalized" ... I don't remember typing TSQL
gone now

@mmarie tempting but I have much to finish here before I go anywhere else.

Out of curiosity, what number would change your mind and bring you to KC?
It can be expressed as N dollars over my current salary or a percent as I think I have a decent guess of where you're at.

I don't know that would be hard. First of my dog is 14 and moving to another State would not do her well. I just signed a lease. I've got my whole family here. I fucking hate the Royals... :)

@Zane everyone hates the royals

@Zane That's ok. We don't like the Royals either

@Zane soo, 2%?

@Zane ... hate to break it to you but ...
a) the dog's going to be gone soon, anyway
b) leases are easy to break
c) your family will still be there and you can visit them
d) see previous comment about the Royals. nobody likes them.

@swasheck the dog is pretty damn spry for her age although she's had a massive drop of this year.

sorry to hear it

3:27 PM
Still want to keep her here for a bit.

ours is 12 and shows no signs of slowing down
(sorry to hear about the massive drop, that is)

If I broke lease the other people in the house would be completely fucked.
@swasheck That was her last year.

@Zane i admire your honor. i forgot about your housing situation

13 going on 5. She could still do 3-5 mile runs every day. Now I've gone from a run to a walk and it's about 1 mile.

@Zane Ok, so Dallas is still an option? :p Sorry to hear about the dog.
Mine is 10 and some change and all you people who talk about dogs being 14 and 15 make me sad and angry because I don't want to put her down even tho it's between 2 and 6 years away ...

3:32 PM
The biggest reason I wouldn't leave now is I have unfinished business here. The people I'm making this large project for have been fucked around for about 8 years. I'm definitely not going anywhere until this project is rolled out. That's a promise I've made to a "customer" and I'm definitely not backing out on it.
If I did go I'd have to do it like today. I technically haven't given my lease back lol.
But to answer your question @billinkc Wells plans on giving me 10K over my current Salary. It would probably take 20/30 to get me out there under different circumstances.
@jcolebrand Hell no they stole the NorthStars!
:)
Oh and cost of Living is lower in KC so I'd have to Factor that in as well I suppose.
@swasheck also I've very close to my family. We have get togethers monthly.

@Zane that's fair

3:49 PM
@mmarie in short I don't know....

@Zane Not trying to help change your mind, but genuinely curious - how much of this project actually has to be done in person?

4:08 PM
@AaronBertrand Technically not much the first rollout is happening in July. We are doing exhaustive testing atm.

A: Using the 'Use' command, or equivilant to point to a different server

ZaneSince you mentioned readability as a reason to not just simply use fully qualified names, and also mentioned that you aren't familiar with aliasing, I'm left to assume you're query looks like this. select serverA.Database1.dbo.TableName.ColumnExample, serverB.Database2.dbo.TableName.Sec...

@Lamak WOW. brazil must HATE belgium

Anyone want to proofread that to make sure I didn't bone anything in that answer?

hehe, you said bone

@swasheck damn, I'm actually not watching this match

@AaronBertrand however if I took a separate gig I could not stay on here t finish.

4:10 PM
@swasheck why?
not watching

@bluefeet @Lamak thunderous whisling whenever a belgian player touches the ball

@bluefeet It's not a world cup thing he's just racist against Belgians.

@Zane I did this at my last place, it is not worth it

@bluefeet I really like my customer and am in complete control of the solution I give them.

@Lamak @bluefeet i am wrong. just one player. have yet to identify who it is

4:12 PM
There is zero chance of being jerked around by internal politics as a result.

@Zane I get that but sticking around for unfinished business is a bad idea. There will always be unfinished business...ALWAYS

@bluefeet yeah but this is my baby. My flagship product. The thing I've wanted to tackle since I started here.

@Zane you are missing the + in this part of your answer: '@Server1''@Database1'

@Lamak Thank you! I always miss this sort of thing when I can't execute.

Should be '+@Server1+'.'+@Database1+'

4:14 PM
@Zane again, I understand. I was in the exact same situation on both of my previous teams. It is hard to leave when you are in that position but seriously consider if you are staying for the right reason. Most of the time it isn't.

@Lamak Just fixed. Thanks homie!

@Zane yup. Now you are missing the period between server and database: +@Server1+'.'+@Database1+

@bluefeet But I also love my job it's not like when I stayed at Wand for too long out of some misguided sense of loyalty. I am very happy with my employer and hadn't really considered leaving at all until a how much would it take to get you out here offer was made.
@Lamak "I would recommend adding the .prior to the database in the server variable that way you can leave it off if it's a local server"
@Lamak I thought he should add that to the variable that way if he's not using a linked server it will still work.

Oh....didn't read that, then no need to add the '' there: + @Server2 + '' + @Database2 + shoud be + @Server2 + @Database2 +
Algeria scored the first goal
Damn!, no good for my bet

Strike first, strike hard, no mercy sir!

4:26 PM
@Lamak bad bad bad bad bad penalty
without the penalty ... could have been offside

@swasheck but was it the right call?
I mean, from the referee

@Lamak i think so
do you? and i really really really want belg to win

@swasheck sadly I can't watch the game

Swing and a miss = free kick, huh?
With the agony displayed by every player who ever falls in soccer, it's amazing kids ever get interested - these players look like they're dying from a severed foot

in fairness ... the usa didnt really dive that much :)

4:41 PM
Only saw bits of the USA/Ghana match. Right now it's annoying - TV is on behind me, and I keep turning around every time the crowd gets excited. Sadly, they get excited every time someone crosses the center line with the ball

@AaronBertrand hey. so i didnt see you in the "warrior training" picture :)

@swasheck the tjaybelt blanket? SQL Sentry is up near the top. Facebook's tagging accuracy is, erm, primitive
Oh I know what you're talking about now.
Yeah tough for me to get to the gym in Huntersville.

I'm just out of frame. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Well, CYCLE essentially tells SQL Server you are okay with reusing values. I have absolutely no idea why you're having this issue, and don't know that you'll find out why (how much time do you spend investigating why you got a flat tire, before you just replace it?). I still think your best bet is to have a constraint there to prevent duplicates, and to turn off caching in hopes of preventing reuse. — Aaron Bertrand ♦ 1 min ago

@AaronBertrand This is why I can't watch world football and basketball. Drawing fouls is waaaaaay to prominent.

Q: SSAS 2012 Tabular cube disappears after server restart

user3745355Currently I am facing issue with SSAS tabular cube. As soon as server restarts, the SSAS cube disappears. Every time server restarts, I have to restore cube everytime and process it again. Please suggest a solution for this. Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks, Yogesh Chaud...

Part of me is curious, but I don't think I want to know.

@mmarie seems kinda difficult to answer. Are there enough details to answer that?

No, I would have to ask clarifying questions. I just imagine it is something really dumb. Databases don't magically disappear.

Hey, our DBA.SE site is mature enough to give the Generalist badge :)

@ypercube how did it decide to give all 13 today?

@AaronBertrand I asked some weeks ago - can't remember who.
The site needs to have at least 40 tags with 200 questions on each.
Or > 200 probably.
@ypercube DBA doesn't yet qualify for the Generalist badge. Your 40th top tag (foreign-key) only has 189 questions. Generalist cannot be awarded on a site until all 40 of the top tags have at least 200 questions. — animuson May 19 at 14:46

@ShawnMelton I don't deal much with Standard but according to this:
4 processors is only 4 processors if they're single core. Should be able to use 4 * quad-core if you've got 'em
Same here for 2008 R2 (above is 2008):
2014 docs are more explicit - cap is 16 cores
Unless I'm a total idiot and reading anything there incorrectly.
^ always a possibility

this one has single 6-core processor with hyperthreading enabled so I by BOL I guess it does.
