@Shalvenay Didn't mean to imply the Nuclear Rifle in Wiki was an answer :) Shrug Weapon lines almost never ever get droped, they just don't get talked about. I am going to include this "Tactical nuclear weapons include gravity bombs, short-range missiles, artillery shells, land mines, depth charges, and torpedoes which are equipped with nuclear warheads." Note the "Nuclear Land Mines" that one always makes me laugh. BUT if Smaug can be hurt by Nuclear Weapons then that one probably qualifies

@EnigmaMaitreya haha. that'd be a disaster for Smaug, I'm sure.

Q: Is it allowed to answer your own question after getting other answers?

Adi NugrohoSo I've gathered many interesting answers in my first question. Is it allowed if I take a bit from each answers, then answer my own question?

Morning everyone

@Secespitus Your werewolf question is interesting. Made me think of using stem cells as the transformation method but I can't really work that into an answer for you.

@Pete I see you already answered, very cool. Sadly I don't have any votes left for today, so you will have to wait till tomorrow for my upvote :D

I just did create an answer. I'm not sure if it completely fits the question, but might provide a jumping point for other questions.
No problem at all, it's a nice question.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Questions

SecespitusTitle: How to escape the zomghosts? This question was inspired by this one. I want to create a slightly different zombie-apocalypse: Zomghosts We are in our current time and suddenly we hear that in Berlin, Germany, a strange death happened. A man that was apparently bitten by a human came t...

Anyone remember the zomghost question? I liked that question and want to try to rephrase and change it a bit to make it acceptable. I posted in the Sandbox and would really appreciate some feedback on this proposal as I am not sure if this is acceptable here on WorldBuilding.

@Secespitus Thanks for your recent rude/abusive flag. In the future, you might also want to consider using a custom mod flag, so you can tell us exactly where the issue is with a post. Most of the time, a generic flag would be fine, but sometimes a custom flag is better. Anyway, thanks for bringing it to our attention.

@HDE226868 Glad it helped. I thought that "rude/abusive" was a pretty good description of the issue which is why I didn't use a custom flag. But it would probably have been easier if I had written something. I will keep it in mind for the next time.

@Secespitus It's fine. A flag is a flag is a flag, and it helped regardless.

Hola all

@James You're alive!

@Green Debatable with the annoyingly early start to allergy season but I suppose the answer is still yes.

@James Ouch. I'm working through about a foot of snow and ice. Trade? Spring != allergy season for me.

@Green I sort of want to light you on fire right now.
...you know to help you stay warm. Not because I am jealous.

@James You'll have to have some kind of copper salt in your igniter/fuel so I actually burn green. Can't have myself burning red. That would be tacky.
2

2:14 PM
@Green lol
@Green If I were going to burn you alive...or if for some reason funeral pyres come back into style I will make sure your flames are green.
3

@James Thank you. I really appreciate that.

@Pete What'd you do?!?
@Green Of course.

@James You're not talking to me? Phew....
I just answered a terraforming question. I'm somewhat scared of what the response might be. I think I'll go hide.

@Pete link?

@Pete No I just saw your starred post over there

Q: Start to terraform Venus

KilisiWhat is a possible way of making Venus more habitable by getting rid of at least some of the thick atmosphere and thereby lowering the pressure and heat. At this point all I can think of is some sort of massive explosive event like a big asteroid or a nuclear weapon. But it just doesn't seem eno...

2:28 PM
@James he read from the book of the Ancients, summoning a long-forgotten power from the depths of Evil itself

Oh that... You might have to read yesterday's transcript and the meta thread on that. Not sure I want to go through all that again.

for three days and three nights, it rained frogs inside the homes of all who entered the chatroom
2
and inside those frogs were locusts

@DaaaahWhoosh You mean he read "Lorem Ipsum ... " in Comic Sans?

and inside those locusts were turds

Big locusts or small turds?

2:30 PM
@MonicaCellio, that SIGBOVIK conference looks like the igNobel prizes held in Cambridge MA every Fall.

@James Q/A worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/questions/74158/… - then change "but what role will the cats fulfill in the army" to "but what role could the cats fulfill in the army" meeting the criteria @MonicaCellio used yesterday.

@DaaaahWhoosh FROGGIES!
Would be less messy than if it rained frogs outside
RIBBBBBIIIITSPLAT

@JourneymanGeek If it starts outside you can at least hide at home. Hiding is more difficult if the frogs are raining inside.

@Secespitus I'd be stuck at home

The sight would be really fascinating. Standing outside, looking through the windows and seeing frogs fall from the ceiling until they pile up on the ground.

2:38 PM
(also, I live on the 25th floor... and people have... made intentional rapid decents from lower floors... its not pretty)

"Intentional rapid decents" is an interesting euphemism
Sorry to hear that.

Oh, the body was covered up
the poor cleaner who had to hose the sidewalk down tho...

Poor guy
BTW: If there are frogs raining inside of your home and there is a little gap where the stairs are so that you go down quite some levels... That would pretty much make you stuck inside too
How fast would a frog be if it were to fall from the 25th floor?

I assume they would be dropping from the sky

I once learned that cats can survive a fall from terminal velocity. Or at least that the injuries suffered by cats stopped being worse after a certain height

2:44 PM
Yeah, once you are dead the injuries can't be much worse

would this be a WB question or physics...

Droppings frogs from the 25th floor?

Most sites would probably report me for asking this
Imagine dropping frogs instead of bombs from airplanes. Maybe special poison frogs or something like that. Would this be a viable war tactic?

@Secespitus we have a question about that, almost
14
Q: Let's Weaponize Frogs

WhyEnBeBasically, our protagonist wants to get revenge on an evil warlord and his minions (not the cute kind) for the destruction and butchery of his home village and all those who he loves. He decides to "get biblical on their... I mean them" and begins to plot a plague. He currently lives near a mass...

2:48 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh Oh, I only knew the jellyfish version
Thanks

3:24 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya My point and why I think it is too broad is that ten year olds can do ALOT. What makes a good answer, a dozen unique answers would still all answer the question as it is asked and they wouldn't be comparable based on the criteria (or rather lack of criteria) in the question
Compare that question to this one

Q: Suitable real world critters for a causing mayhem (disabling comm and defense systems) via catapult?

JamesSo I have a concept in mind for a future dystopian world. The world: Technology exists on par with modern technology. This technology is not widespread; in fact, it is quite rare. Most humans do not know how to create the tech that exists and are only occasionally aware with how to fix things....

I focus it on a particular area so at least all the question have to address a more specific situation.

Oh yes, I remember that one. The terror of being the person tasked with loading live tarantulas onto a catapult...

3:37 PM
Is there a way to search this chat room's historical entries? I am trying to find a message that had a link to a Blog Entry that suggested that one not try to define how FTL (or any other technobabble) just say it is there and avoid the TLDR and endless battering of DOES NOT EXIST CAN NOT DO etc.

@EnigmaMaitreya There's a search bar at the top right of your screen.

Ok I will try that it was within the last 3 days I thought it might be Monica, you, TomB talking about how things can go off topic
The link provided pointed to the Blog entry
Ah here it is medium.com/universe-factory/… thanks for the heads up on what that searches

@James Shrug I read it and it was the opposite in terms of detail. Comments about the Squirrels and Ammunition Depletion shows the constraint problem. I believe it was @MonicaCellio that took a "To Broad" Question and changed the "would, will etc" to "could " and indicated that would put it into the acceptable (not to be confused with great) catagory. :) Obviously I do not agree with you on the to broad and I do not see that great amount of activity to take action on it.

@EnigmaMaitreya I voted to close it as too broad. i thought the question that @MonicaCellio edited was too story based but I might be wrong.

@Bellerophon Yeah I could be wrong as well. LOL I would keep the thing for the total creativity the respondents are demonstrating with their humor. All work and no play makes for a .... thing. Come on some of those things are totaly hysterical. Almost as good as the respondents to the post @James linked SQUIRRELS FOR THE WIN EVERY TIME.

5:24 PM
@Bellerophon I mean who can not laugh at this reply "Why would the US government want super-cats for the military? Cats don't follow instruction (don't listen at all), sleep all the time, and are easily distracted. They seem more appropriately suited to Congress. – user535733"

5:53 PM
I did upvote that comment.

@Bellerophon Who didn't? It's hilarious! :D

@Bellerophon I don't remember which question that was (c'mon, that was yesterday... ages ago :-) ), but IIRC my goal with the edit was to move the question in the right direction, not say "this is all we need". People should definitely feel free to further improve borderline questions! (For any value of "borderline"; sometimes a very entertaining question is borderline on scope, for instance.)

@Bellerophon So did I. My wife is politically opposite from me and I showed it to here and we both laughed our rear ends off.

@MonicaCellio Wasn't it this one?

@MonicaCellio :) I empathize and could not link to the post you made so sorry I am to blame and I can only hope I more or less got it right
@Secespitus yes that is the one and I screwed up it was DO to Can.

6:07 PM
@Secespitus oh yeah, that was it. I reopened to return it to "default state" after a mod-close + edits. Whether the edits were enough to keep it open, I don't know -- if more editing is needed, I hope people will do it.
@EnigmaMaitreya no need to apologize for anything.

@Bellerophon Actualy she took over the computer and read all the answers and comments then I showed her the one @James linked and we had another set of things to laugh at.

6:58 PM
Wow, my inbox has never been this full of unread messages.

@Bellerophon I have about 200 thousand of them in my work email

You should read them more.

I need to find a better way to stress-test a system that sends emails
@Bellerophon the horrible part is that even without reading them, it seems like it's still going to take a couple days for me to delete all of them

I have 14K items in my email inbox. All of them read.
@DaaaahWhoosh Ctrl+A, DEL. Done!

7:20 PM
If you want to pretend to have perused them you can use Ctrl+PageDown, DEL

@Green see, I tried that. But the problem is that it doesn't load them all
so I'll delete 1000, and then more will show up

@DaaaahWhoosh Hmm, that's problematic.
And you really have 200K emails?

I did at some point, it seems impossible to count them now

In Outlook 2010, there's a delete all command if you right click on Inbox.

@DaaaahWhoosh Please explain.

7:28 PM
@HDE226868 there's a thing I am a developer on, that sends about 100 thousand emails a day. We tried to launch it without stress testing, which was stupid. Then we did stress testing, and the best option I could come up with was to send all the emails to myself
@Green I'm using that, but like I said it only seems to work on the ones that've been loaded. I guess I could just wait for them all to load, but I'm not sure how far it would go before stopping

@DaaaahWhoosh That's toootally not spam, I assume.

@HDE226868 it actually seems like a notification of a useful service, so... not exactly spam.

@DaaaahWhoosh Down in the status bar there should be a message that says "All folders are up to date". If that message isn't there then you're still syncing.

@Green yep, this morning it said it was updating the folder I'd sent all these emails to, it started at 3GB and went down to 1B, now it's been stuck there for about four hours
I did learn that if you right-click the folder and control-click 'delete all', it will delete without sending to the 'deleted items' folder
or, no, shift click

@DaaaahWhoosh I wonder what happens if you restart Outlook. The delete process might have gotten hung up somewhere.

7:41 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh so your e-mail client does not allow you to create filters?

@EnigmaMaitreya well, initially, I wanted to get these emails, to make sure the process worked. I did create a rule to put them in a separate folder, though
@Green I'm just afraid that if I restart, it'll have to re-update something. And then who knows if that would fix the problem. I think I'm just going to let them trickle in and periodically delete, see how well that goes for a while

@DaaaahWhoosh And you can not delete the Folder, then recreate it or must you delete the messages. If your using Outlook, it has been a long time since I used it but I seem to remember you can create a rule to actually delete it.

@EnigmaMaitreya yeah, I thought about deleting the folder, but I'm worried it would dump the emails onto my main Inbox folder

@DaaaahWhoosh Microsoft does a lot of stupid stuff but I do not think they would do that you can always create a temp one throw a couple in there and see if your client is not outlook then I am talking out of my rear end and shame on you for being +to vague" :)

huh, it says I can't delete the folder. Ah, because it's not synchronized yet

7:52 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh leave your computer on over night and if it is still synchronizing .... let me know.
@Bellerophon Made me laugh "Why would I want to kill me?" I wonder if that guy just watched the latest Resident Evil movie.
@DaaaahWhoosh Hum, if it is synchronizing from the ISP (internet) mail server you probably have some way to get into it and delete from there.
@DaaaahWhoosh That should terminate the synchronization

8:42 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh Go with the rule advice. If you don't ever actually need the messages then just auto delete them. As long as they have a common title/sender (that you don't mind sending to the trash) you can rule it.

8:55 PM
@James oh yeah, I guess I'm manually auto-deleting them already
but I wonder how adding a rule would work. Applying it to existing emails might end up with the same problem
huh... I guess it finished synchronizing. So I deleted the folder

@DaaaahWhoosh I think you set the trigger, so it would be 'on receipt' for example, meaning you have to clean up existing stuff manually.

We use slack at work
no email
also no hope of ever finding anything

Q: "Primarily Opinion Based" is a reason to edit, not to close

JDługoszIn keeping with the remarks I made when running for moderator (see #3), I found this post from a relative newcomer as a perfect case. It has 13 answers including a high-voted accepted answer. So, just removing the word “best” from the title removes the "Primarily Opinion Based" issue and transf...

@SerbanTanasa Is that an ascessment about Slack?
