Hey @KitZ.Fox, I just finished Wrong Turn 4. It gets more and more violent. Are you writing now?

user174558
12:40 AM
OK, I am gonna watch 5 now. Good luck writing.

Q: Is it possible to do novel-scale writing on a Chromebook?

user2859458I've been looking into Chromebooks for their portability and cost and was wondering what kind of writing tools, if any, exist on the platform that could be used to write larger projects without making one go insane.

1:24 AM
@JasperLoy No, I was putting the boys to bed. I'm writing now though.

2 hours later…
user174558
3:49 AM
@KitZ.Fox OK I finished all 6 movies, LOL. Sleep well.

@JasperLoy Thanks.
You too.
Almost there...

user174558
4:18 AM
I am still here, going to bed in a few minutes.

I think I finished. I have to validate now.

user174558
The 6 movies were all violence and sex, not worth watching.

user174558
Oh you mean it ends today?

Yes. It ends in 33 minutes where I live.

user174558
4:27 AM
LOL, you just made it!

user174558
Woo!

user174558
This is like your yearly thing.

user174558
I have a yearly thing too, as you know.

user174558
Time to edit and publish and sell all the previous works!

user174558
Time to be rich!

4:29 AM
I don't know. It's a lot of work to edit.
I've only really liked the one idea that I wrote last year. This one was funny, but not very and also not very interesting.

user174558
I think it would be no fun to stop at nanowrimo each year.

user174558
You need to find a good publisher to promote your works.

user174558
I got over 30 votes for answering that virgin question, LOL.

user174558
I should have added I am still a virgin, LOL, at the end of the answer.

user174558
You exceeded by 600 words which is a lot.

user174558
4:33 AM
I think the longest essay I wrote was like 500 words.

user174558
I don't like to use too many words.

I haven't written a story that I really felt dedicated to or inspired by.'

user174558
Has @Metamaterialgirl also finished nanowrimo?

Closest one was last year, and I'm still editing that one.
Yes, she finished yesterday.

user174558
Aha. Now that I have found a new movie site, I have more movies to watch.

user174558
4:37 AM
Have you met someone only online or once and feel really close to him or her?

user174558
Sometimes, I feel that way with Maria, LOL.

user174558
Oh well, I should forget about her forever.

user174558
I develop these crushes easily.

user174558
The most terrible scene just now was when they skinned someone alive, bit by bit.

user174558
I wonder how much they made from the 6 movies.

user174558
4:42 AM
I can imagine someone might puke while watching it.

WOOOOOOO CONGRATS @KitZ.Fox! You did it!!

user174558
I can do at most 500 words, hehe.

I think maybe you need to watch less scary movies.

Well, Nano's just 500 words...1000 times.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox Good idea.

4:44 AM
Oops, I mean 100

Oh good. I kept looking at those numbers thinking that there was something wrong with them.
So when do I get to read yours?

user174558
Are your novels public?

We-elll...let me organize the bits kind of worth reading, and send 'em to you. A few days maybe?
This one isn't.

@Metamaterialgirl OK.

user174558
Anyway, I won't read novels. No interest.

4:46 AM
Yarrrr.

You still have my email?
@JasperLoy You are keeping your brain open for maths.

Uh, probably somewhere. I know I have you on Tumblr too, so we could message that way if you need.
Let me hunt for yours.

user174558
I have memorised her email.

Aha, found it!
We're go.

user174558
What is 'we're go'?

user174558
4:48 AM
We are go?

Yep, means all is good.

user174558
Never heard of.

user174558
I know 'good to go'.

We are go for liftoff.
I forgot I had a tumblr account.

user174558
Ah, so 'go' is like a noun referring to a state of affairs.

user174558
4:52 AM
I have 0 social media accounts.

user174558
It's already a December afternoon here.

'bout 2 hours to go before it's Dec here.
I think it evolved from the statement 'good to go' or 'okay to go' meaning 'ready to go'

Speaking of going, I'm headed to bed, finally.

user174558
Same here, good night everyone!

user174558
poof

4:56 AM
Ah, si si. I shot you a quick email from my more recently made gmail acct, Kit, so you know it's me.
And g'night, sleep well...same to Jasper though he disappeared fast, heh.

user174558
@Metamaterialgirl Still here!

user174558
I just rejected an edit to one of my answers, hehe.

Ah, then timely g'night then :)

user174558
Are you also going to sleep?

user174558
I remember you sleep pretty late too.

5:00 AM
I'm going to try to go to bed earlier than last night, but it'll still be awhile.

user174558
I used to sleep on a mattress on the floor, but now it is on a bedstand.

More comfortable, I hope!

user174558
Well, it's the same, since I am still sleeping on a mattress!

user174558
But I am very particular about the head pillow.

user174558
My head is very heavy, so it needs a good pillow for support, lol.

user174558
5:03 AM
My current head pillow is a decade old, so I should get a new one soon.

user174558
My advice is not to buy those that claim to curve according to your shape because that does nothing.

user174558
Rather, get one that won't go too much down after some time.

user174558
Yes, I tried the NASA pillow before but it was no good.

Memory foam is a bit delicate, yeah.

user174558
Also very expensive. Latex ones are nice.

user174558
5:06 AM
Definitely not cotton.

user174558
I haven't tried water ones, LOL.

user174558
It seems there are water beds too.

user174558
Actually, a safari bed is pretty nice.

user174558
I think Kit has gone to zzz.

Prob'ly.

user174558
5:10 AM
That night, I dreamt I was asking the bus driver to stop. Then I got up from my seat in my dream. Then I realised I had gotten up from my bed lol.

user174558
Sometimes I have nightmares of people doing bad things to me, and then I spit on them in my dream. I realised I actually really spit in my sleep.

user174558
So there is sleep standing and sleep spitting lol.

A: Is there a male counterpart to being a virgin?

Jasper LoyIn English, virgin can be used to refer to a person who has never had sex or a person who has no experience in a particular activity. This person may be male or female.

user174558
Easy points there.

Q: How I should handle gender-neutral pronoun in technical writing?

Manmohan SinghI am writing API documentation for a mobile loyalty program and I am not sure which of the following is better wording: The user asks its visit to be registered. @StackExchange D&D manuals alternate "his" and "her" every time it's reasonable the subject might be a new individual.

9:54 AM
^*approves of this*
Also going to bed soon, but if I haven't said hi to you today @BESW, then hi!

[wave] Goodnight!

I think 'they' is becoming the default English gender neutral pronoun, in spite of people's dislike of its plurality.
But yarrrrrrrrr turns into yawn
G'night :)

@Metamaterialgirl "Yarrrwn" would be a great neologism.

10:34 AM
@KitZ.Fox they seem related...
I really like this year's story.

Q: Is it good/bad/neutral to introduce a character's day to day life if it's immediately going to be drastically changed?

Justin AlexanderSo I'm writing a science fantasy WiP and I'm unsure how to introduce the characters and their background, day-to-day life if that's all going to change after the inciting incident. So in question format, is it good/bad/neutral to introduce a character's day to life if that's going to change, an...

4:56 PM
@MattE.Эллен What do you like about it? I should do more of that.

5:12 PM
@KitZ.Fox I'm not sure how to describe it. it was easy to read. So, I guess each bit of the story flows easily into the next. Perhaps because it was over a short time span. I think the "will they won't they" about Jesse and Evelyn confessing to Eddie was a good hook. I liked the dynamic between the kids and mr bumble. I'm intrigued to know what the patterns were about.

In the olden days, groups of amateur writers banded together for what was known as The Circle
This tradition was handed down for centuries, evolving and accepting more and more artists of the written variety.
They met in secret on a day the mere mortals called 'Tuesday'
Now we join the adventure of The Circle in modern days, consisting of few powerful warriors wielding pencils and laptops

@DeltaEscher Hi.

Hello
Agh
Finally

user174558
Do you speak anything besides English?

I wish
Kind of want to learn Russian

user174558
Why Russian?

7:20 PM
It's a nice language
Lots of inflection

user174558
I am deciding between French and German.

German also has nice inflection
Go for it!
Please read story
is desperate for attention

user174558
If I go to grad school, I need to know simple French, German or Russian. But Russian is too hard.

It takes a very large vocal range, I agree.
The way they pronounce words is weird(?)

user174558
@DeltaEscher Is S G your real name?

7:23 PM

Is polosh

user174558
I changed my email recently, let me email you now.

@DeltaEscher Did you get it?

7:29 PM
@DeltaEscher spelling errors? in a 10 minute write? impossible!

user174558
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Looks like the drama in ELU is only beginning.

meh. There's always flare ups every now and then. It'll pass.
@DeltaEscher btw thanks for hosting the exercise.

user174558
Hello @Andrew today's topic is already on the wall.

Deficient?
Hi @JasperLoy

8:08 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 np, this is the only exciting thing I do in the day

2 hours later…
10:08 PM
@DeltaEscher Missed it! Thanks for the ping.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox Hi Kit. How are you?

@JasperLoy OK. Yourself?

user174558
Not too bad.

I am making dinner for the boys whilst my husband is at a charitable event.
It's very early there, innit?

user174558
Yes. 6.18 AM.

user174558
10:20 PM
My mum did not win anything at the company dinner lucky draw, but they gave her a bottle of white wine. I had a glass yesterday.

Was it good? What kind of white was it?

user174558
I don't know the type, but I just drink it anyway. I prefer those fruity ones that are not too bitter.

user174558
Hey, I forgot, you speak German and French right?

user174558
I am always deciding between which one to learn, if I have to choose one of the two.

French, but only a little German.
German is harder.
I had more fun speaking it though.

user174558
10:24 PM
The Foreign Service Institute ranks German as harder to learn than French as well.

user174558
They actually produced lots of language materials which are now in the public domain.

user174558
Not many people know about this.

Oh yeah, I think I heard about that.

user174558
It does not often rain here, but it can rain any time. So I always try to bring an umbrella.

I thought you had a season for rain?

user174558
10:28 PM
Well, I think it's like now, December.

user174558
Those soldiers in German movies always look so handsome. I like their hair.

German features are generally rugged, I think. Pugnacious. Very masculine.

user174558
Lots of people like to sing Nessun Dorma for talent shows these days.

user174558
Even 10 year old girls. I watched some on youtube.

Do your children like to sing?

All 1G and 2G phone services will be phased out in 2017 here. That is what they call 'progress'.

user174558
I got 200 yesterday and 200 today for the virgin question.

user174558
I eat the same dinner every night: rice, egg, chicken/fish and green leafy vegetables.

That sounds excellent.

user174558
It is delicious and economical, only about 3 USD per person for takeaway.

What's a chicken/fish?
;)

user174558
10:38 PM
Oh. =)

user174558
I doubt I can get this kind of food in the US.

user174558
I will need to learn some cooking if I go there.

user174558
Just put stuff into the microwave.

We're having linguine tonight.

user174558
I like spaghetti carbonara.

10:39 PM
You can certainly get rice, eggs, chicken, fish, and green leafy veg here.

user174558
It's about 10 USD at Pasta Mania here.

For cheaper than $3 per serving even.

user174558
I walked with a tourist from NY once. He told me that the cost of living here is higher than that in NY.

Well. It would probably be cheaper to make your own food there too.

user174558
Well, it's a first world country with fourth world laws and mentality.

user174558
10:42 PM
I learnt that the shopping centre I like to walk in is part of the most expensive building in the world!

user174558
I like to walk there because it feels I am in another country. The shops are so beautifully decorated.

user174558
The casino is there too, but my mum works in another casino.

Wow. I hadn't thought of expensive buildings before. I live in such a poor place.
What do you think makes it so expensive? Diamond windows?

user174558
I don't know what poor means though. I think it is expensive because it is one large building with many subtowers consisting of the hotel etc. And the floor really shines with marble.

user174558
I saw pictures of beautiful Swiss villages at night, with snow and lights. Really beautiful. Maybe I would live there some day.

10:47 PM
Wow.

user174558
How can you make dinner and talk at once?

I can't really. :-) I'll have to go soon.

user174558
I think I am going now too. Enjoy your dinner, talk later!

user174558
11:58 PM
OK, I am back now. Just had breakfast.
