Q: Adding figures into a report, How to cite?

vigamageI am writing my first ever thesis these days. In order to describe a feature extraction methodology, I am going to insert a figure to my thesis and that figure is taken from the original paper in which the methodology has been proposed. That paper has already been cited by me in my thesis. My q...

Q: How to write about paternal and maternal grandparents?

phiWhat are some practices to write about paternal, maternal grandparents, especially when their names are not used? One method I am considering is "p-grandfather", "m-grandmother"... etc, but I don't like it so much. Use sub script? grandfatherp? grandfatherm? If I had a few paragraphs about my pa...

@Metamaterialgirl I am now. You?

Hey! Give me like...30 mins and I will be.

Cool.

What's the collective noun for "doctor"?

10:00 PM
Term of venery?
:)

A diaspora of doctors
A plethora of pathologists
A, um...xerox of x-ray technicians?
I got nuthin'

10:16 PM
A cluster of doctors.

A hot zone of doctors?
A declamation of doctors
Tea's almost ready

Wikipedia says "doctrine" or "dose."

A dose of doctors
that is perfect.

I assume a dose of doctors is a small group of them, while a doctrine of doctors is how you'd describe, say, a medical convention.

whacks gavel IT IS NOW LAW.
I am tea'd and ready to write @KitZ.Fox!

10:23 PM
Doesn't that need a preposition?
Like teaed up or teaed off.

Teaed up works also. I admit a soft spot for the recent linguistic habit of verbing nouns though.

While I'm fond of messing with transitive properties.

Rules? puts on sunglasses We don't need rules.

[flies off in hovercar]

:D
I think I'm gonna hit my 50k today.
Though the last third of the book is a hot mess.

10:28 PM
Yey!

BAHAHAHAHA, yesssh.
Man, our actual 2015 style is much less interesting than this. Now I am mildly disappointed in us.

Whenever I feel like that, I do a google image search for Janelle Monáe and I am comforted.

searches
Ohhh, she IS quite sharp.

Her sartorial choices combine 1920s German scifi with Michael Jackson and pure uncut class.

Okay, now I'm proud of 2015 again. Janelle Monáe has brought the entire planetary population's style points up to 'acceptable'.

10:35 PM
Her "default" outfit is a tuxedo with Hair.

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to make me nostalgic for 80s suit fashion, but she kind of hits that vibe for me.

If you haven't seen her music videos, check 'em out.
She can sing and dance.
Her concept gimmick is that Janelle Monáe is actually Cindi Mayweather, a time-travelling android from a dystopian future, on the run for the crime of loving a human. She's come back to our time to inspire humanity through the Magic of Music, to prevent that awful future from ever happening.

Watching Q.U.E.E.N. now
eeeeeeeeeeee

QUEEN is great. I also recommend Many Moons and Tightrope.

10:47 PM
I know, right.

@KIIIIIIIIT

Whaaaat!?

@KitZ.Fox Hahhaha, that actually worked? Wow. Uh, I'm good to write, but if you're doing other stuff I'ma hunt up some foods first.

I got distracted with Star Wars Battlefront. Meet you back here in like ... te-e-en? minutes.

Hrmmmm okay.

10:58 PM
More time to watch Janelle videos!

Yarrrrr!
And get foods.

I should be saved from this rabbit hole. It is sooo pretty.

Just win it, then you'll be free :D

My boys are playing it.
It has co-op!

oh dear
that is a DEEP rabbit hole

11:04 PM
OK. Let's do this thing.

Q: Do you need to cite a reference each time it appears in single paper?

user12121114A related method is mentioned in many places in a paper. Do I need to cite it each time it is mentioned, or only in the first time?

@KitZ.Fox Ping!

370

201, but that's because I went back and rearranged some things to make more sense.
I promised myself it would be the first thing I did when I started writing again today, heh.

I can't figure out what to do with the end of this story. It needs to die stop uh, end somehow.

'AND THEN THERE WAS CAKE'

11:24 PM
@Metamaterialgirl OK, but in 5K words.

I'm having the same issue but it's earlier than the ending. I mean, I know how it's supposed to end, just that there's this big mess in the climax area.
THERE WAS SO MUCH CAKE
SUCH CAKE AS YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN
list all kinds of cake

Maybe I could describe the cake, the eaters of the cake, what they are wearing, what the weather is like.
What kind of cake they wished they had. What kind of memories they have when they eat the cake.
How the cake was made. The decision making behind the choice of possible cakes.
The problem in the process that led to a second, backup cake being baked and yet possibly not eaten!
Good lord. Next year, I'm writing an entire novel entitled "And Then There Was Cake."

The epic conflict arising between those who adore red velvet and those who consider it a cheap gimmicky weak chocolate knockoff.

Because apparently I have plenty of ideas how to write that story.

YARRRRRR.
I would read the HELL out of that story.

11:28 PM
You would read the hell out of all the weird stuffs I write, it seems.

Well of course I would! Your weird stuff is awesome.
Ooh, cake pies.

blush

This is your writing Kit:

Now I want some cake.

user116848
11:31 PM
@Metamaterialgirl Looks delicious!

user116848
And hi!

oops. I might have broken something on the game by accident.

Someday I will make one...and hi @Arrowfar!
For now, i will eat my fish and broccoli.

@Metamaterialgirl Have you finished? she asked impatiently.
Well aware of the irony.

11:42 PM
Bahahaha. Like 3 bites left.
chomps final piece down like a Galapagos tortoise eating a grape
