I would be afraid that this reduces others' motivation to also dig for answers. And that for those who do, it has an influence on their thinking, making them less likely to give you a new angle

@rumtscho Well, I started asking the question before I knew the answer. After researching the question, I felt I knew the answer. So I self answered.

@rumtscho Well, sometimes I might feel that way, but this time I didn't. By researching enough to ask what I felt was a good question, I got the answer I needed. So I considered leaving the question unanswered anyway, deleting my question before asking it, or self answering. I went with (c), probably as much because I had 1 rep on Skeptics than anything else.
