@Catija hollow macarons are normally due to under-whipped whites
but those look beautifully smooth and uniform, good job!

Hi baby!

hi there

I have been binge watching John Oliver on YouTube all weekend. I made a note-to-self to show you one of the videos (you'll love it), but I'll be damned if I can remember which video made me think that.
Thank you for him.

8:25 AM
haha
you're welcome
we have barely any idea who he is
xD

He is pretty much a phenomenon here.
Wicked smart political comedy.
His ratings on HBO have overpassed Bill Maher.
He makes a point to empower his audience to actually do things en masse (usually goofy as hell) to really annoy the people in his crosshairs.
Do you know the Drumpf thing?

@Jolenealaska and the TV ad thing. And the church...

The Church! LOL
And the billboards

8:40 AM
@Jolenealaska heard of into the badlands?

Super vaguely

Its a post apocalyptic retelling of journey to the west. Pretty cool cinematography

My knowledge of Journey to the West is even more vague. Something Chinese, right?

Basically the original has a trio of misfit demigods helping a monk go to india to pick up some scriptures
this is very very very broadly based off it

8:52 AM
how long till the Russia thing finally comes to a head I wonder

It can't be soon enough.
Help us Russian scandal, you're our only hope.
(until next month)
I just experienced the SE reputation system working in a very obvious but cool way.
crap, brb

9:35 AM
Testing
YAY

receiving

:)
I am really glad to have Dragon back. I've actually got some writing to do tonight with an actual (if self-imposed) deadline.
I wish rumi were here. I see my MS doctor in about 12 hours. Last time I saw her she drew a conclusion I knew to be wrong, because I researched the question months ago. I would like to go to the appointment armed with supportive documentation.
Unfortunately, most medical studies are hideously paywalled. I have plenty of abstracts, but I would like to find a few "drop the mike" arguments from the actual studies.

hmmm
so this is the appointment where you find out about the treatment?

No. This appointment is for no good reason.

oh
one of those

9:47 AM
yep
I think the real reason for this appointment is that because the major treatment plan I'm embarking upon allows her to charge extra for her time with me.
There's actually a good reason for me to reschedule, and I would really rather do that. Unfortunately, I neglected to do that last week.
I'll call them first thing in the morning, but I'll only ask if they still want me to come in. The answer will almost certainly be yes.

Q: Is Cersei Lying to Cat about Cersei's First Born?

JolenealaskaMaggy the Frog's prophecy of Cersei having and losing three children seems to be right on the money but for one thing: Either Cersei is lying to Cat in the 2nd episode about the "little black-haired beauty" who died in infancy, or Maggy was (wrong?) The "You win or you die" scene in the eponymo...

That's been bugging me since I first saw the Maggy scene.
And the answer is: They done messed up.

the big questions lol

Yep!
The questions on SFF often crack me up. So often I want to say, "you do know that it is fiction, right?

i know
basically they want to know the mind of god
"Why did <minor character> say <statement> to <other character>?"
reminds me of that simpsons bit
with the nerd at the comic book convention

11:00 AM
Or would a lightsaber be effective against Iron Man?

Presumably
Iron Man has a lot more maneuverability and range

I don't know the Simpsons scene.

No idea how repulsors would react with light sabers.

The jedi would have an advantage in close quarters though

11:04 AM
the jedi could just mind-trick him anyway
though I suppose Jarvis could take over

hm, assuming he's weak minded
though, considering he's the only avenger who seems to have PTSD....

I had a Star Trek TNG question closed when I first started checking out SE beyond SA. It still pisses me off.

Q: Why wasn’t it Worf attacking in the Yesterday’s Enterprise timeline?

Jolenealaska "Federation ship Enterprise, surrender and prepare to be boarded!" I love this scene in Yesterday's Enterprise and have frequently considered the possibility of Worf delivering that line. Michael Dorn's voice would have been instantly recognizable to fans (that's always fun, to be a bit more...

Yes the title is unfortunate, but the question is perfectly valid!

haha
the grudge is real

yes
I've tried twice to buy the book that may hold the key, but Amazon has been out both times.
I've got to get some work done. If I get lucky it may only take half an hour so. Or it may take longer. If I keep chatting I will keep procrastinating. So, hopefully I'll be back soon.

11:36 AM
ok hon

1 hour later…
12:40 PM
o/

o/
wie gehts?

Done with work for today, sunny and warm outside - just great!

lucky devil
it's sunny and warm outside but the AC is stuck on in the office so I'm freezing

Unplug the AC and open the windows?

it's a building wide air circulation system
and the problem is, it can't be turned off
that's why it's broken

12:49 PM
Meh...

i'll live
what are you going to do this afternoon? gardening?
practice your alfresco cocktail making skills?

hi guys

@ElendilTheTall sounds tempting, but no, laundry and weeding is on the agenda.

howdy
@Stephie you're out of control woman

But at least I'll be working on my tan.

12:54 PM
on the back of your neck
a good Iowa tan
pure white from the elbows up and the collar down
amirite @Jolenealaska

@ElendilTheTall and legs and arms and... I'll be wearing short shorts and a large hat.

like a Mexican rent boy
xD

@ElendilTheTall At least rural Iowa :)

@ElendilTheTall With boobs.
<cough>

@jolenealaska with a slight green tinge around the forehead from perpetual wearing of a John Deere cap

12:57 PM
!!

@Stephie you know I never think about boobs, yours or otherwise
ahem
<crosses self>

@ElendilTheTall me neither

pfff
please
you think about boobs more or less non-stop
i've seen your browser history

lol
I'm calling my little project done. I cherry picked 4 recent studies with abstracts that backed me up and printed those abstracts.

Huh? On what topic?

1:01 PM
Jojo is on a mission to impeach Trump by next week
and by golly she might just do it

I have a doctor's appointment later today. My Doctor made a incorrect statement last time I saw her, and got a bit uppity with me when I challenged it. So...

Oh! So you are going to put little miss know-it-all in her rightful place?

exactly! :)

I predict lots of "but you got me totally wrong"s!

She just made an assumption that makes perfect sense, but it's based on nothing.
I happened to know what I was talking about because I had researched it at length a few months ago.

1:06 PM
Did a similar thing once when a teacher used a wrong explanation for a mental illness. She could have said "thanks", but no, she insisted on me being wrong.

Yep, that tends to bug people like us.

Made her eat her words....
And I warned her, not to use that particular text in her upcoming evaluation (she was not a "full" teacher yet) or at least use the correct terms.
Twice.
Did she listen?

I'm guessing, um, no?

Of course not.

this is what happens when you you deal with people who don't already know one simple truth: WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT

1:10 PM
... ESPECIALLY IF WE BOTHERED TO DOUBLE CHECK

double yes!

I don't think me starting my answer with "As I told you a few times..." went down too well with the board.
She'd have made a lousy teacher anyway.
(Disclaimer: I'm not the main reason she chose another career path.)

haha
50/50?

I will try to be the very picture of diplomacy.

She was the one that sent a class of teenagers out into the forest to literally hug trees.

1:13 PM
SCENE: this music plays
Jolene busts into the doctor's office
scattering receptionists and prescriptions
in her hand is a 4-ream high stack of research
she marches in slow motion, hair blowing in a previously non-existent breeze towards the doc's desk
raises her arm high
lightning falls and plays around her outstretched hand
BOOM! she slams the research onto the desk
"KNOWLEDGE, BITCH! GET SOME!"
Jojo walks out, again in slow motion, not looking back as the desk explodes

LOL!!!

END SCENE

<wipes tears of laughter away>

I need to throw in some laundry, brb

1:19 PM
@Stephie <bows>
:D

How am I supposed to get work done...?

don't
join us
jjjjjjjjooooooooiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnn uuuuuussssssss
I guarantee at least one laugh every 3 minutes

.. and me pulling an all-nighter to make sure my kids have clean clothes?

pfff
they'll live
it'll do them good
:D
washing machines generally don't require constant attendance Stephie
i assume you're not beating the clothing on rocks down by the river?

Upgraded to electronic devices a few moons ago.
Atm, the washer and a drier are having a little party in the basement and I need to fold the dry laundry to make room for the wet stuff on the clothes line.

1:30 PM
you have an atm in the basement?
la-dee-dah

I have never hung anything to dry outside except after falling in a river.

We airdry most of our clothes

that's one of the best things about Spring
outside-dried clothes
ffrrrreeeeeeesssssh

though in the army, they put the airconditioner compressors in a room and made that into a giant airing closet

1:41 PM
you ain't the boss of us

Thank you!

Awwww, had an unexpected visitor:
My 87yo grandmother toddling along the garden with her walker.
Had to ask her in for a moment.

1:57 PM
How close does she live?

I guess by the time she arrives back home, she won't remember most of what we talked about. But she had a good time.
@Jolenealaska if I walk fast, I need three minutes.
Less than 1/2 mile.
(thanks, google)

Wow, my nearest relative is 3500 miles away by car.
cuts down on unexpected visits.

My mom is going to be a lot closer to you in a few weeks... she's apparently going to Alaska for a conference of some sort.
She works for the Air Force.
@ElendilTheTall Thanks for the compliment! :D They do taste really good, so I'm not too bothered by them.

@Catija that's the good thing about macarons, they can look like a car crash, but they still taste fkn awesome :)

So she will probably be at Elmendorf. Not far from here at all.
This is a good question, I've wondered this myself:
31
Q: Why did Luke want to join the Imperial Academy?

Wad CheberFull disclosure: I don't know what the Imperial Academy is - in fact, until I read a question here today, I assumed that the "academy" Luke spoke of was a Rebel Alliance training academy. However, as I now know, it is called the Imperial Academy, and is obviously affiliated with the Empire, and...

2:10 PM
remember, this was before the Emperor had dissolved the senate

Why is the word imperial, not emperial?

who knows
Google, that's who
imperial comes from imperator I would think
so it's more, why is it empire not impire

4
Q: Why is imperialism not spelled empirialism?

Edward TanguayIf the goal of imperialism is to create an empire, why is the word not spelled "empirialism"?

i suspect the French have something to do with it
> from Old French empire "rule, authority, kingdom, imperial rule," from Latin imperium
i fkn knew it
:D

yep!

2:15 PM
france has a lot to answer for linguistically speaking

It kills me how often I ask Google something and get an answer from Stack Exchange. I never noticed it before I showed up one day.

that's the idea I guess :)

We must be doing something right

3:36 PM
@Jolenealaska you're still welcome to him
xD

@Jolenealaska that's the implicit goal of SE

to subsume Google into its gaping Q&A shaped maw

@JourneymanGeek Yes, but it still kills me :)

we have a new coin out tomorrow

3:39 PM
our pound coin is the most forged coin around
so we're getting new multisided bi-metallic coins: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39403378
(current ones are one metal and round)

@ElendilTheTall And apparently he likes us too. He has applied for US citizenship.

@Jolenealaska that'll be for tax purposes :D

Pretty coin. I didn't know that any coin was cost effective to counterfeit.

well, it's £1

so people can confuse em with the euro? ;p

3:42 PM
what could you buy with 10 fake $1 bills?
one in thirty pound coins are thought to be fake

@ElendilTheTall wow

actually, no that looks nice, and hefty

So, when the queen dies, all of your money will change?

yes, slowly but surely
and Charlie boy will face the other way on the coins
(they alternate)
it's a good quiz question - which way does the queen face on the coins
she faces right on the coins and left on stamps
so a lot of people get confused

well TIL

3:49 PM
:D

The biggest counterfeiter of American currency is North Korea.

4:17 PM
Hello everyone!
Today has been a pain so far!
😡
Outlook on my MBP won't sync to the server. :(
Oh well, guess I missed everyone.
