7:11 AM
And good morning again ☕️

8:00 AM
morning all
@Stephie morning

Hi Hon!

yo
how goes it

Just dealing with a flag... brb

read 'fag', was shocked
got coffee

That would be a bit shocking wouldn't it?

8:12 AM
somewhat
liberal, weed smoking, virtually a communist
hates the gays
lol

Shortly before my mom died we were talking about some work I needed to have done. She suggested that I hire wet-back labor. I had never heard her use language like that and was in fact shocked. I said as much. She responded that she was only using language that she thought I would use. On what planet?
I have never used a racial epithet in my entire life.

lol
way to pass the buck mom

She was very odd in her dealings with me. She seemed to always jump to the worst possible conclusion about my behavior.
For instance, I often used silver nitrate at work to cauterize toenails that had been cut too short. That product stained the skin. At one point I had several silver nitrate stains on my arm.
She saw them and assumed that I had self mutilated the way meth-heads do. What??
When I mentioned to her that I missed being able to give blood (MS), she asked if I had hepatitis C.
Would that be from my IV drug using days or my time spent as a prostitute?

weird
sounds like some kind of disorder

It was weird.
I don't remember her being particularly that way when I was growing up.
But she was often that way after I became an adult.
When you think of chili powder do you think of just dried chilies or a mix of seasonings including dry chilies?

8:36 AM
oddly. Depends on the language.

a mix of seasonings
chillli, cumin mainly
i would call just dried chillies in powder form 'powdered chillies'

Me too.
There's a comment on an answer that I don't agree with.

But if I buy something labelled chillie powder.... I expect nothing but chillies.
In Tamil tho, it's a shorthand for a mix of chillies grams and other things.

The biggest brand of spices in the US is McCormick.

8:51 AM
I wonder if the OP in this question is using powdered chili, when the American recipes he's looking at a chili powder blend:
0
Q: Can I cut chili powder with Paprika?

BrianI live in Africa, but cook with US recipes often. I have found that the locally available chili powder is MUCH more intense than it is in the US. So much so that making a custom taco seasoning yielded some near-inedible heat. For the moment I have solved this by bringing in chili powder in bulk. ...

@Jolenealaska my wife's grandmother is a bit odd like that
here, the government takes 20% inheritance tax
her house is worth quite a bit
one way around it is to sign the house over to the person at least 7 years before you pop your clogs
rather than leave it to them
my father in law gently suggested it to her - she's past 90 - and she said to him in complete seriousness, "Absolutely not, you'll kick me out on the street!"

I'm sure some people would. I imagine your father-in-law isn't one of them.

exactly
she is master of the passive aggressive comment
I showed her some of my photos once
she just said "Well, you need to try these arty things even if they don't always work"

fucking ouch
she is deaf as a post now but refuses to use the hearing aids she has been given because "my generation don't like to be dependent on anyone"
I don't know who she thinks she's going to be dependent on
and she has a goddamn nerve, because she depends on me to put up her frigging hanging baskets every year

9:04 AM
That reminds me. Would you send me an email using the account you would like me to use? I need to send you something.
It may take me a while to get it out, but I will soon.

TY!
The first presidential debate is tonight. I hope that Trump gets trounced.
That man scares the crap out of me.

it's like a joke that went too far

It really is
I really did not think he was going to last longer than a few weeks. Current polls put him within reach of actually winning.

9:21 AM
indeed

I hope they do real time fact checking. Trump can't seem to open his mouth without lying.

9:37 AM
And I'm not even talking about errors. I'm talking about flat out lies, like, "I always opposed the war in Iraq." He is on record giving his support. That's not a mistake, that's a lie.
I think Clinton is a bit ethically challenged too, but not nearly as much so as Trump.

a bit?
jeez

Hey guys!

@ElendilTheTall Ditto.

If she were running against anybody else, I would focus more on her faults. But, she is running against Trump.
Hi Cindy!

9:43 AM
@Jolenealaska exactly
she's really getting away lightly

I think anyone who votes in this election is picking their lesser of two evils. And I don't think there's a dime's worth of difference. No matter the outcome, the American people lose.

when was it ever otherwise, anywhere?
the desire to be a politician should bar you for life from ever being one

All so true. It just seems to be so blatant this time. Even people who don't understand anything about government or elections should be able to see it. >.<
(I'm talking about those who, for example, don't know what the electoral college is.)
On another note, did you guys have a nice weekend?

It kind of frightens me. People who are that uneducated don't usually vote in high numbers. I'm afraid that they might come out in numbers for Trump.

@Jolenealaska Many of these people, surprisingly, are not uneducated. And they are not new voters. I remember in the last fiasco college grads were interviewed. It was amazing how many didn't have even basic knowledge of the process.

9:56 AM
I saw a video the other day where they addressed the Trumpite idea that Hillary has a double
they printed two copies of the same picture and showed them side by side
and asked which one was the double
"Oh definitely this one, because reasons"
(-‸ლ)

I hadn't even heard that one. Did he actually say that she has a double?

Lol.

apparently it's a thing

Well, hopefully he says as much during the debate.

"Hello Hillary, if that's your real name"

10:00 AM
:D

Don't forget that she is quite capable of losing her cool and spouting off, too. That's one place she tends to screw up.
That said, she has a lot more experience in the debate arena.

have you seen the Between Two Ferns with her?
(are you aware of what Between Two Ferns is?)

no and no

Yes to both.

props to cindy for being down with the kids
Jojo, you need to get out more
;)
it's a spoof interview show
All very deadpan
quite British really

10:08 AM
Must have been her double. ;)

lol
no, it's really her
target demographics and all that

I know. Just couldn't resist. Notice the ;).

That's what they want you to think....

@Cindy I refuse to notice that

Haha!
I'm thinking of making a couple of loaves of pane di casa today. If I have time.
One for home and one for hubby to take to work.

10:16 AM
mmm I had to Google that, but it looks good!

I love it! We have a store that sells a very good loaf. $5 a pop when you can get it.
Of course, everything is high these days.
I did get a few meat bargains last week. I stopped in a store to spiff up the cheese case and, of course, had to look around when I was through. For $11 I got 3 pkgs. of ctr. cut pork chops, a London broil, a round steak, and a sirloin steak.

You would roll over and die if you saw the prices on groceries here.

Probably a little higher than here, I would think. On that stuff I just got lucky and hit the meat case right after they dropped the 'Manager's specials' in.
E.g., one package of chops would have been $5 and change at regular price, but was reduced to $1.01.

protecting your livestock from grizzlies is expensive

10:31 AM
Take a look at this weekly ad, the best sales in the store.
99 cents/pound is a pretty good price for whole chicken!

link doesn't work for me

@Jolenealaska Looks like our Kroger ad. Prices are pretty comparable to here, although a few of the produce items are higher. Avocados here on sale are usually about $1 - $1.25, and fresh berries about $2.

10:49 AM
What do you pay for a pound of ground beef?

It varies. The cheap 70% stuff on sale is usually $2.99 to $3.59. I've seen some of the better ground meats on sale for $4.99 - $5.99. We don't buy any ground beef, though. We wait for certain roasts to go on sale and grind our own.
<Note to self - check manager's specials this week for roasts and steaks to grind.>

11:04 AM
I rarely see even the high-fat stuff for less than six dollars. Produce during the winter is ridiculous. Grapes for six dollars a pound... Crazy

Seriously!
Some northern states are like that with produce. I have a cousin who lives in Maine and he's told me about prices like that. And from what he says, what they get isn't all that great. He says they never get stuff that's picked at that perfect time.

$5 here

For grapes? Or ground beef?

ground beef

I almost ever buy it because it never goes on sale.
I never get as lucky as Cindy, but I go for the bargain bin for meat too. Other than that, it's IQF chicken from Sam's Club.

12:09 PM
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
total bargain
<dances>

12:28 PM
cute :)
Have you ever heard of micellar water?

yes
ahem
I use it
incidentally I have just seen the comment above my bargain one

I had never heard of it before today.
@ElendilTheTall Ha!
How long have you been using the micellar water?

12:43 PM
I use it, too.

Goodness! I feel so out of the loop!

a few months

I'll look for it.

@ElendilTheTall What brand do you use?

if I use soap and water it makes me spotty
so, sure in my sexuality, I use cleanser and micellar water as a toner
@Cindy some supermarket own
Asda/Walmart I think

12:51 PM
I don't think the pricey ones are really any better. I was going to suggest Simple to Jojo. Not pricey but good quality.

yeah
it's all the same stuff
anyway
my bargain was a pair of the best hiking trousers on Earth
£125 RRP
I paid £85
my sainted mother will give me some money towards them for an early Christmas present
sorted
they were down to £100 on another site, I saw a banner for an extra 15% off that should have expired last night, took a punt
the rest is high quality history
Finally getting the right side of Vimes' Law!

They look nice! And that's a good deal. The sizing scared me for a minute until I realized...

haha
they are 34/34
I could buy a cheaper pair that would last me 5 years, or this pair for a steal that will probably outlast me
they are damn near bulletproof
they are already windproof, and a light waxing makes them waterproof
while remaining breathable
and they have knee pad pockets
hallelujah
no more sore knees for Tall
as it were

Very cool. I need knee pads these days.
Oh! Guess what one of the newest trends in exfoliating agents is?

belt sanders?

1:01 PM
DE.

delaware?
'So boring your skin will fall off'

Lol. Your silverfish killer.

ah!
I suppose it is mildly abrasive
I haven't seen any dead silverfish, so I don't know if it has worked
but then again I haven't seen any live ones

Hmmm. Time will tell.

indeed
it's polished off the family of grizzlies in the attic though

1:16 PM
Added bonus. ;)

Fjallraven trousers, bearskin coat
I'll be toast

You'll be the fashion icon of the UK!

you say that like I'm not already

Lol. You very well may be. Let's see a pic. ;)
Nice.:)

1:41 PM
I make an effort to never be fully lit ;)

You do it well.

thank you
<bows>

Need to recharge shortly. Down to 5%.

1:56 PM
👍

It's been fun. See you a little later. :)

2:12 PM
I'm binge watching Masterchef. I'd rather be watching TGBBO.

TGBBO
tg...bbo
nope, you lost me @Jolenealaska
ah
got it
big controversy here over bake off

oh yeah?

It's BBC through and through, been nurtured to its current status by them
but
Channel 4 won the bid when the contract ran out
beat the Beeb by 10 million
Mel and Sue pulled out
Mary pulled out
only Paul remains

Oh dear

they very nearly bought a £75 million tent
they may well still have
@Jolenealaska evidently you haven't read further up the screen

2:21 PM
I don't think I have missed anything.

ok
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I almost commented on one thing, but I decided not to.

2:37 PM
Do you use a pressure cooker?

no ma'am
never have

I never have either. I've been wanting to for years.
The newest question should be right up your alley.

hmm
plain flour I imagine
there don't seem to be any raising agents in the recipe though
I assume self-raising flour would always be specified as such in the US?

My right leg and foot have ballooned up in the last few hours. I can't even see my ankle bone.

2:48 PM
my left leg is swollen too, but not nearly as badly.

medication side effect?

I'm not on anything new
And I feel ok.
it's weird
I don't think I could get my right shoe on.

hmm
have you moved much today? :D

No, very little. I have walked some though.

elevate it
and move
i suggest high kicks

2:56 PM
Yeah right :)

6 hours later…
8:42 PM
@Jolenealaska are you ok? Feeling better?

3 hours later…
11:18 PM
Greetings, all!
@Stephie I have followed your advice in cutting off the top of a basil stalk, and I seem to be seeing two tiny buds appearing exactly where you said they should!
In short, basil plants are hydrae.
