I'm cancelling all appointments for tomorrow.
It is in fact a Dutch word.
It has been in use since at least the 16th century.
It used to mean more or less the same as French naturel and Latin naturalis, probably.
It is used to describe food, bodily appearance, or comportment, I should say.
It indicates that no (non-basic) decoration or flavour has been added.
So a face without apparent make-up may be called naturel.
Or the behaviour of someone who might have felt uneasy or felt the need to impress people in a certain situation, but whose behaviour in fact seems natural.
Or yoghurt without any flavouring, or pancakes without any but their basic toppings, which may include sugar or syrup.
Or chips without anything but salt and fat.
I believe they call those salé in French?
