2:13 AM
@Arrowfar hmmm...perhaps if I'm running away from someone

2 hours later…
4:35 AM
@ElendilTheTall Remember when I mentioned the coat that I shamed CN into giving to me? You'll like it. It's English, and it's plaid :)
@rumtscho
It's at least 60 years old, and it is in never worn condition.
It's worth significantly more than my car.
I'll take another picture when it is light out. It's gorgeous, and it weighs a ton. It's incredibly warm.
The coat belonged to CN's father; it was his hunting jacket. Apparently CN's dad did not do a lot of hunting.

5:28 AM
Oh, it's not English. Hmmm, that's Manchester, not the wool.
Pendleton Wool is all USA, but with English (and Native American) roots.

5:56 AM
@Jolenealaska Good Morning! :)

Hi hon!

@Jolenealaska How are you?

Pretty good tonight. I was grumpy yesterday, but not today.

hmm... good
has it started the snowing?

It was -26C yesterday. It first snowed in September.

6:02 AM
woo

Yeah, it gets chilly here.

Are you busy?

not right now!
I need to be busier though. I need to make some money.
but not tonight

do you do any online job ?

No. I write (a book, not online for money), and I train dogs.

6:06 AM
nice. We had a nice cute germen shepherd dog.
Her name was Liza

was? :(

she was not a dog. She was like kid in our family
yup. She departed us few years back
:(

yes, I think the hardest thing about dogs is their short lifespan.

She was very obeyed to my parents

She "obeyed" your parents, or she "was devoted to" your parents.
obey is a verb

6:11 AM
ah ok. she was very loyal :)

Yes, they tend to be. I like shepherds a lot.

Female Shepherds are the best !
They so cute <3

Yes. I love it when they're still pups and their ears are floppy.

Can you do me a favor ?

probably

6:14 AM
Today is my last day at my current work-place

Is that a good thing?

so, as a custom I should give a last speech to my colleagues before I leave.
I am looking for an good way to end it up
what I really want to convey is, no matter where we go, what we do, but still we will be friends
I need to say it using a metaphor or a nice idiom. Can you find a good one in English for that?
@Jolenealaska ^

remove "but" from that line, and it's a good start

@Jolenealaska metaphor or idiom would be nice. I like to know if there are any for this

hmmm...pondering

6:23 AM
^_^

brb...scheduled phone call

ouch ! :(

7:10 AM
@Jolenealaska I'm sorry. That link is not accessible for me. It has blocked from our company proxy server

7:24 AM
ugh...OK, I'll screenshot it
OK, 7 screenshots

Thank you very much !

Maybe one of those will work for you.

Hope so. I will go through this bunch and pick one of them. I might need some assistance of you in order to check whether that may suit my sentence

Tall is here (kind of) too

7:53 AM
must reboot

o.O
I think I should logout from all my private sites which I saved passwords
BTW; how about this way to end my speech.
@Jolenealaska Once again, Thank you for all your support throughout the last 1 and half years. I wish you all the best. One thing that comes to my mind which I learned in Rezgateway(my company name), "If plan A didn't work you still got 25 letters to try it out." Thank you :) <<crowd will have applause here>> :D

Morning

@ElendilTheTall morning! :D I know that you see i'm in the chatroom and you know that I'm asking about some English help :P

Now you know I'm ignoring it

-_-
wonder since when Tall has went to RUDE mode :(

8:10 AM
When have I ever left it, is the more pertinent question

he needs coffee

Yes.
@jolenealaska did you sleep? Are you back to your usual sunny self?

Yes, I slept. I'm not going to stay up all night though. I've got a full day tomorrow.
As a matter of fact, I'll probably go to bed soon and get up early.

8:25 AM
@Jolenealaska was it good enough? my ending part

the 26 letters thing is going to lose some of your audience, I think.

@Jolenealaska why do you say so? doesn't it sound good enough ?

Unless it's a common turn of phrase there.
I just think that it's not easy to "get".

hm.. ohh another thing.
Can you say another way to say this same
I wish you all the best

I don't see any reason to change that.

8:30 AM
Okay

I am very comfortable giving speeches, and my technique for it is to not script very much. A basic outline is all that you need, other than that, you're just talking.
These are your friends, after all.
Speeches that are highly scripted come across that way.
And they tend to be a bit boring.
there is such a thing as too much polish
Plus, if your speech is highly scripted and you mess up a bit, it's hard to recover. If you are more conversational in tone, you can pick up from anywhere.
In my opinion, you need to Teleprompter to give a scripted speech.
or wicked memorization skills

9:05 AM
a flash card is all you need really
and a bit of practice
flash card with the main points, practice joining them up
well that's typical
I get into work and everyone buggers off

You are grumpier tonight than I was yesterday!

no I'm not, I just haven't come across any situations this morning where non-grumpiness was an option
you were category 10 yesterday!
I checked the weather for Anchorage yesterday. Yup, Funnel of Unholy Darkness with a 90% chance of thermonuclear precipitation.
:P

You love me just as much when I'm grumpy

If not more - you talk less
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

@Jolenealaska what will tomorrow's full day consist of

9:23 AM
OOOH! did I tell you I finally got my business cards?

no, I don't think so

Tomorrow I am hitting the mailrooms of all of the buildings in the complex with my flyers, which I will do on foot. Since I don't have keys to any building but my own, I will have to hang out until I'm let into each individual building.
@ElendilTheTall They're gorgeous. And they match the flyers perfectly.
So, during the day tomorrow I am drumming up business. In the evening I have business.

@Jolenealaska cool. colours all ok?

Yep. The colors of the flyers and the cards match perfectly, and it has just the camouflage look I wanted.
and another thing....Did you see my coat?
5 hours ago, by Jolenealaska
@ElendilTheTall Remember when I mentioned the coat that I shamed CN into giving to me? You'll like it. It's English, and it's plaid :)
I can't remember being so tickled by an article of clothing since a dress I bought when I was 15 with my first real job.
Thank you so much for my cards and flyers. They really look great.

9:44 AM
@Jolenealaska looks great
cosy
@Jolenealaska you're entirely welcome
now about payment...
;)

@ElendilTheTall Yes, and it looks great on me too :)
I will will you a chunk of my first million

@Jolenealaska spoken like the daughter of a lawyer

yes :)
Just for giggles, I just weighed the coat. It weighs over 8 pounds. Yep, it's warm.

user116848
G'Afternoon!

10:00 AM
Hi Illuminati!

user116848
Hi @CrazyNinja.

user116848
Howdy @Jolenealaska.

user116848
It is kinda quiet here.

user116848
Hi@ElendilTheTall How is your grumpiness doing?

Yes, it is. It's about to become quieter by one.

user116848
10:09 AM
@Jolenealaska So, we are almost at a 10 hours difference.

user116848
I just Googled Alaska'a time.

We're even four hours removed from the East Coast of the United States.

user116848
I hear Alaska is very beautiful.

user116848
@Jolenealaska Have you ever visited "Tongass National Forest"?

user116848
The Tongass National Forest /ˈtɒŋɡəs/ in southeastern Alaska is the largest national forest in the United States at 17 million acres (69,000 km2). Most of its area is part of the temperate rain forest WWF ecoregion, itself part of the larger Pacific temperate rain forest WWF ecoregion, and is remote enough to be home to many species of endangered and rare flora and fauna. The Tongass, which is managed by the United States Forest Service, encompasses islands of the Alexander Archipelago, fjords and glaciers, and peaks of the Coast Mountains. An international border with Canada (British Columbia...

10:13 AM
@Arrowfar It is. I used to live in what is arguably the most beautiful part of Alaska.
@Arrowfar Yes, I've been there.
That is not our most well-known national wilderness.
Denali National Park is even cooler (so to speak).

user116848
@Jolenealaska Yes I just Googled. The pics look awesome!

user116848
@Jolenealaska Cool! I think the first time I heard about it was from a article in National Geographic Magazine. A long time ago.

it's about the same size as Maryland

user116848
I see.

10:19 AM
@Arrowfar simmering gently as always

with the highest mountain in North America

user116848
@ElendilTheTall :)

user116848
@Jolenealaska Yeah, Mount McKinley.

user116848
Here we have K2 but boy in a very tough terrain.

user116848
Many campers go there.

10:23 AM
No, we don't call it that anymore :) McKinley is some dead white guy who never set foot in Alaska.

user116848
I didn't know that heh.

The mountain's name (now officially), is Denali.
The Great One
Denali /dɨˈnaːli/ (also known as Mount McKinley, its former official name) is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190.5 m) above sea level. At some 18,000 ft (5,500 m), the base-to-peak rise is the largest of any mountain situated entirely above sea level. With a topographic prominence of 20,156 feet (6,144 m) and a topographic isolation of 4,629 miles (7,450 km), Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak after Mount Everest and Aconcagua. Located in the Alaska Range in the interior of the U.S. state of Alaska, Denali is the...
or The High One, I guess

Hey guys. Finally home after a day of airport hell and sick to go with it. I didn't get in until after 10 pm last night.

user116848
Hi Cindy.

@Arrowfar Hi!
Guess everyone wandered off......

10:38 AM
No, I (for one) am still here, I'm just getting ready for bed.

Hi @Jolenealaska!

You're sick? How are things with your manager?

Yeah. I thought my sinuses were out of whack this week because of the climate change from being in Chicago. Not. Major sinus infection reared it's head yesterday. Things with my manager are good. As I was saying before, I feel much better about the job and I have a good understanding of why things started out like they did.

10:54 AM
I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling well, but I couldn't be happier for you that the job is going better.

@Arrowfar Hi there!

11:09 AM
Hi @Cindy. How is your kitty?

@Jolenealaska Thanks!
@FaheemMitha Hi. She still has a way to go, but much better. She started eating solid food Wednesday and she has started getting some color back in her nose and mouth, which is a very good sign of improvement.

@Cindy That's good to know. Congratulations on your kitty getting better.

@FaheemMitha Thanks. It is a relief. It was hard being gone this week as I was so worried about her. And I knew she was in good hands with hubby, but I still couldn't help but worry.

@Cindy Yes, it's hard when family members get sick. Especially when they are older.

@FaheemMitha So true.

11:17 AM
@Cindy There is a company called First Advantage (fadv.com). Apparently all they do is background screening. Have you heard of them?

@FaheemMitha No, I haven't. But I know of such companies. Many companies use that type of business to screen potential employees. A couple of companies I have worked for now outsource many administrative jobs such as background checks, expense management, recruiting, etc.

@Cindy Ok. I'm surprised they don't just do it inhouse, where they can control the quality.

@FaheemMitha Yes, at first I didn't see the logic. But many in-house employees tend to skip steps or be partial to certain people for their own reasons. An outsourced company has no dog in the fight, so to speak. They are charged with, and are accountable for, doing a fair, impartial, and thorough job.

@Cindy Oh, I didn't think of that. Do these outsourced services usually work well in your experience?

@FaheemMitha Yes. The ones I know of have done a thorough job and they haven't missed things that I have seen missed by in-house employees. They are trained and focused on their area of expertise.

11:35 AM
@Cindy I see. I've heard mixed things about outsourcing. But of course, that includes things like outsourcing to India. Which can be problematic. The kind of thing you're talking about is clearly domestic.

@FaheemMitha Yes.

Q: What does "join the dots" mean?

IvyChou To get even this far, readers have to make great efforts to join the dots. I encountered this sentence in The Economist. I have looked up the dictionary but still cannot understand the meaning of "join the dots". Could you please help me with that? The whole paragraph is The author s...

12:28 PM
@Jolenealaska I think you've given him what he was after in your last comment
it just needed explaining more explicitly

@ElendilTheTall Well, it's been a half an hour without further questions, so it appears (so far) that you are correct. Whew... that was taxing!

12:44 PM
@Jolenealaska somehow you will struggle on, I'm sure

Well, yes. I think I'm done. After all, I was explaining, not arguing.
If it were an argument, I'd be brewing coffee.
Wow! It's 4am. Goodnight all.

g'night
see you in 5 minutes

Also I gained weight... :'(
Not sure why since I thought I have lost weight
I feel "skinnier" if that makes sense

Jay
No @Stephie said she likes a well-equipped chef.
This is completely necessary
I need this in my life

You don't have one already?

@Jay I visited a friend yesterday. Her 8 yo daughter was busy choosing her Christmas present from a Schleich catalogue.

Jay
2:48 PM
Haha in case you guys were not aware, I was only joking

Jay
I really havent run into these cult members yet haha

A: PonyOverflow.com Question

TheTXIPonyOverflow.com is a recursive joke. With that said, I am looking for suggestions on how to successfully incorporate AdSense into my profile :) As for your question: A pony is neither a midget horse (midgets are evil little impish creatures that eat babies) nor a brand of shoes (as far as I kn...

2:59 PM
> midgets are evil little impish creatures that eat babies
that is A) wrong and B) borderline offensive

I don't think that anyone uses "midget" for real humans nowadays. In the context of mythical creatures, I don't see it as offensive.

Jay
@ElendilTheTall no C) Both?

@rumtscho a) is because I've never even heard of a midget being a mythical creature
@Jay 'and' implies that already

3:12 PM
so
weekend plans?

Jay
Im going to try and reschedule my date with the Parisian man for this weekend
And probably go for a jog,
Since im fat

meh
exercise for fitness, change your diet for weight loss

Jay
well i did
and i thought i was doing well

you'll burn, what, 200 calories jogging? That's two slices of bread

Jay
but gained ~10lbs in the last couple of months

3:17 PM
then you didn't change your diet very well :)

Jay
I was hoping to volunteer for manual labor heavy opportunities to work out that way

buy some dumbbells

Jay
but I just applied for most of the opportunities this week so wont be able to do anything this weekend

worked for me

Jay
@ElendilTheTall I have a 10lb, 15lb, 20lb set
what weight/rep do you use

3:19 PM
hang on, let me convert to modern units
3 sets of 10 reps with a 30lb dumbbell
curls, goblet squats, tricep lifts, inclined rows, and push ups

Jay
Oi, can i hire you as a live-in personal trainer

every other day

Jay
also i dont have a 30lb

it only takes 15-20 mins at most

Jay
so ill try with the 20lb for now

3:21 PM
well, you do it with what you can manage

Jay
@ElendilTheTall soooo 200lb dumbdells?
Where can i find those :P

Try it with 15... if you find you can do 12 reps easily, it's too light. If you can't do 8, it's too heavy

Jay
okie dokie
ok whats a goblet squat and inclined rows

and don't skip the legs - muscles burn calories just sitting there, and your thigh muscles are some of the biggest in the body, so if you build them up, it will help you burn fat
Goblet squat: hold the dumb bell vertically with both hands in front of your chest, like you're holding up a goblet to be filled. then do a squat
it's just a squat with resistance
Inclined row: hold the dumb bell in one hand, bend the opposite knee and rest the opposite arm on it, so you're half crouched. Raise the dumbbell so that your elbow points straight up.
it works the back of your shoulders
This is a good one. And the guy's Asian, so you get a preview of what you could look like! :D
it's hard work, but you feel better for it afterwards

Jay
Hah i look like that already
>>

3:30 PM
from the neck up

Jay
lol screw you

you wish

Jay
hah! I'm not into super hairy guys. sorry buddy

woe is me. however will I deal with this heart rending pain. stop.
actually, I'm not super hairy
moderately hairy
appropriately hairy

Jay
@ElendilTheTall Thats what they alllll say

3:42 PM
@Jay well, now you'll never know ( ̄ ̄)

Jay
@ElendilTheTall muhahahahahahahahaha the spy cam in your bathroom says otherwise

those talking spy cams really are useless you know

Jay
@ElendilTheTall so do YOU have any weekend plans?
Whats your normal Thanksgiving plans? Do you go somewhere or do you have a Thanksgiving dinner at your house

3:59 PM
@Jay take a moment to consider that statement and who it's aimed at
Americans, honestly

Jay
haha hey man, i figure if other holidays permeate across the ocean, why not thanksgiving

4:23 PM
other holidays such as....?

Jay
4:46 PM
Cool cool found something to do this weekend:

Hi!
I don't think we celebrate any foreign holidays?
I suppose you could say all holidays were once foreign...
But not recently.

5:27 PM
@jay sounds perfect for someone looking to lose weight...

Jay
@ElendilTheTall exactly!

2 hours later…
7:29 PM
Ah, Friday night.

7:46 PM
A night on the town?

Hahahahaha

A night with a bag of crisps?
Cozying up with the missus?

We don't eat crisps these days.
Cosying is a possibility

Oh, you mean officially.
No, officially I don't eat crisps either.
Nor sweets.

Popcorn and nuts
Those are our usual evening nibbles.

7:57 PM
I see.
