Q: Would someone like to fix the now-broken link to historiography on the Topics help page?

DronzThere is a link to "historiography" at https://history.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic which points to http://qcpages.qc.cuny.edu/writing/history/critical/historiography.html which gives a 404 not found error. Is this the right place to ask if someone would like to fix that?

Q: During Edo period Japan, was there any circumstance where a Western person was able to go outside of Dejima?

Twinkling StarI know that during the Edo period Westerners (specifically the Dutch) were confined in Dejima due to Japan's isolationist policy. @TheHistorian My 0 research SWAG is that the answer for this is going to be that its thinking about it the wrong way round, and that the US backing out of any aspirations of conquering territory and/or setting up new clients states directly on the Asian mainland bordering China was from their POV a necessary precondition for any possible rapprochement with that nation.
Once those things were off the table, then China's biggest security concerns became Russia and India (neither of which were on good terms with the US), and it became possible, even desirable, to move over to a more friendly posture with the US.

@T.E.D. I think you are right but I'm curious about any minority opinions (anti-Nixon saber rattlers, perhaps?) that might have tried to make China abandon Vietnam as a condition for rapprochement rather than the opposite

Q: How did the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867) solve Austria's insolvency and economic issues?

GMossAfter the Austro-Prussian War, Austria faced debt/financial issues, and they resorted to unification with Hungary. I do not understand how unification with another kingdom (Hungary) could solve the economic problems. I mean, did Hungary help pay down Austrian debt? Why would Hungary even agree to...
