My proofreader side is bothered by this saying in old days instead of in the old days.
However, my pedant side feels that the phrase shouldn't be there at all on a History site, and should be modified to something more precise.

I'm with your pedant side (what does that say about me?). I just edited it to refer to the Golden Age of Piracy, which is I believe his intent.
