Q: Should a famous Hindu Swamiji, Guru, Indologist, Hindu book writer etc. were to join this forum

sv....will we enforce the same kind of rules on them as we would on ordinary users? That is: Will we bug them to support their answers with citations? Will we remind them they cannot cite some of their own books or articles in their answers because that's technically spam? Will we flag their answ...

Q: Authentic sources of history after the Mahabharat war

Naymesh MistryThere is a lot of material on the Internet with vastly varying degree of authenticity on this topic. Are there any authors, publications that are most reliable/scientific/trustworthy about history after the Mahabharat war up to the part of Indian history that is well researched/generally accepted...

Q: Why didn't Kṛṣṇa really prevent the Mahābhārata war? If Rāma could sacrifice his kingdom to Bharata, why couldn't Yudhiṣṭhira do it for Duryodhana?

sv.Main Questions: Why didn't Kṛṣṇa really prevent the Mahābhārata war from taking place? Was the war really worth it? This answer says the war resulted in the death of more than a billion soldiers, horses and elephants on both sides. The numbers maybe inflated but what a great calamity! Isn't it ...

Q: Did the 10th day or 11th day ceremony after the death of a close relative originate due to the Mahābhārata war?

sv.I heard that, after the Mahābhārata war, Yudhiṣṭhira went into depression for having killed so many people. He did not like how the war ended. Then Bhīṣma supposedly advised him to conduct a Rājasūya yāga so that he will meet new kings, forget the bad memories from the war and start a new life. S...

Q: If Rāma could sacrifice his kingdom to Bharata, why couldn't Yudhiṣṭhira do it for Duryodhana?

sv.Here's Rāma's attitude towards his own brothers (or should I call them cousins because technically they were not born to the same mother): धर्ममर्थं च कामं च पृथिवीं चापि लक्षण | इच्छामि भवतामर्थे एतत् प्रतिशृणोमि ते || २-९७-५ भ्रातृइणां संग्रहार्थं च सुखार्थं चापि लक्ष्मण | राज्यमप्यहमिच्...

@KeshavSrinivasan @Pandya "but we should certainly allow them to cite their own works as sources" -- why are some of user Simply Hindu's answers being deleted or forced to be deleted? He's quoting his own website.
@TheDestroyer Your comment: Why do you advertise your site here? Whatever new content you add in your blog, you copy and paste the same content here. Insteading of citing your blog, cite authentic scriptures by writing in your own words and taking relevant portion from that scripture. – The Destroyer 2 days ago
@TheDestroyer ha ha! I think one is allowed to cite one's own blog as source. That's the design flaw we have going on here.

@sv. Haha. Yeah.

sv.
@TheDestroyer It'd be unfair to allow 'expert' users to quote their own books but have a separate rule for 'normal' users.

@sv. Even if a "expert" comes with some other name, we will force him/her to cite orginal scriptures. Haha. Problem is we can't easily say who is expert and newbie by one or two answers.
@sv. But i believe Smply Hindu's main intention is to advertize his site.
@KeshavSrinivasan Did you really invite "Devdutt Pattanaik"? Lol. If he joins this site, i hope he won't see our comments about him and his works. :P

@AnkitSharma @KeshavSrinivasan I'm planning to create a meta post like : "Consider to improve/fix questions if required". (to avoid the distorting the quality of site by preventing irrelevant/opinion-based answers) How about it?

Q: Why did the concept of multiple gods or deity begin in Hinduism?

Ashutosh JoshiToday as we know there are millions of Hindu deities (33 crore is what is often referenced). No historical text references to existence of so many gods and goddesses even if we include the Avatars of the trinity - Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva. Does this imply that Hinduism was left to the whims and fancie...

Q: How can Jamuna river be in India when shastras say otherwise?

Ramesh BhattaraiThis is what shastras say about the Jamuna river: Shrimad Bhagwat mahapuran, Pancham skandha adhay 16, shlok 16-20: "In Mandarachal, A mango fell from a mango tree into a river changing the river's colour to yellow. Because of this, the river was called Arun. On the downside of the river there ...

Q: Jyotisha and death

vidyarthiDoes Jyotisha have elaborate methods to predict death? If so, what is the method? I read in jaimini sutra pertaining to astrology that there is a predictive method for death, but the method is unclear. Also, I do not understand whether it is credible.
