Even if all your equipment was in tact and you had everyone who knew how to operate it, it still may not be possible to recover. You can't just cold start an electricity grid, which is necessary for everything else to run. Without a working telecom system you can't coordinate well enough to make the interconnects happen.

Scavenging the remains of our current civilization will help jump start things significantly, not just old books. Nails, tools, seeds, modern versions of these are far superior to what could be produced before the industrial revolution.
