2:49 AM
Man, I envy you

kindle jailbroken, ssh running, found how to display images on it
now I need to generate the 8-bit png files for it... imagemagick does the trick but the images are terrible...

3:20 AM
@ThoriumBR None by default.
UFW is the ubuntu preferred one, but ehhhhhhh
I like my firewalld

15 hours later…
6:28 PM
if you guys are interested on migrating linux servers to linux on a mainframe, this book I helped write tells why and how...

7:00 PM
@JourneymanGeek Hey, I just wanted to thank you for your help with zfs
It really was just zpool export and then zpool import <pool> after reinstall
But still, I am grateful

good to know it worked!

@JourneymanGeek I just read UFW as UBW and was thinking "What the hell does Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works have to do with Ubuntu????"
Yeah, server is up and running and transmission is working again as well
I also documented all steps and commands on github
Just in case I wonder in the future how I did something
My blog is dead now, but oh well, time to make something new again

7:37 PM
Ugh...why is NFS now screwing me over
My settings for my share are /media/data 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=1000,anongid=1000)
But when I type ls -nl
drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 2 Okt 25 2021 FooA
drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 2 Okt 3 2021 FooB
drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 2 Okt 1 2021 FooC
drwxr-xr-x 27 1000 1000 44 Mai 16 2022 Somedir
For some reason uids for FooA through C are not reported correctly
Maybe the idea of "I want to copy a file from this machine to that machine" is just too archaic for the modern age

7:54 PM
I found the issue
FooA through C are ZFS datasets
While Somedir is just a directory
Even though when I list it all on the server, they're all owned by UID 1000

one colleague almost sent a mail to executives where he replaced spreadsheet with "spreadshit"...

wtf...
You literally have to enable zfs set sharenfs=on pool-name
explicitly "support nfs"
Funnily there is a sharesmb property too
Which I did not use

@MechMK1 ZFS is a joy 😁

I think I once had a root zfs filesystem, it crashed somehow (probably a power outage), and I lost all my files...
since that all my root filesystems are ext4 out of habit...

11:28 PM
@ThoriumBR root on ubuntu server is... basically do the install from scratch off a livecd
but the admintoolls are sweet
@MechMK1 in theory ZFS has built in NFS and smb support
annoyingly that means there's 3 smb implimentations with different feature sets
