heya!

@M'vy well that sounds risky

Yeah

I wonder how they differentiate between you and the person standing next in-line

Malicious shop owner could also scan everyone against their will
(not that it would be very "commercial", but ...)

@M'vy yeah they'll know everyone who's in the store.
well from an advertising perspective I'm sure many businesses would like that
privacy nightmare though
"hi bob, here's a coupon for "cheap underwear" after we noticed you were in our underwear section for 25 minutes earlier"

8:21 AM
@RоryMcCune minority report :)

@M'vy precisely

To be honest, couple days ago, the cashier took my credit card and gave it back to me without giving me the machine to type my PIN.
I was like "hu? what?". Turns out she used contact-less payment.
So, I (involuntarily) sacrificed security for what? sparing 30s to type my PIN?

@M'vy yeah that contactless thing is getting more common, and it's got to be a fraud risk

Man. Looking at herbs I grew from seeds and using them makes me feel like a divine entity.
I gave you life. Now I shall take it mwahahah!

@Kisunminttu so you're a capricious god.. "you sage you are tasty, tonight you die!"

10:46 AM
Delayed statement expressing sentiment regarding the current time perid

11:41 AM
@M'vy most places still just use the magnetic strip reader.
and more importantly, if that is even possible, the whole CAP thing is nearly pointless.
@Kisunminttu kinda like being a parent?
> "I brung you inta dis world, I can brung you out!"

@AviD well, you know... France :P
We like our smartcards :P
@AviD you forgot: do mah bidding !

a few years back the UK tried to legislate CAP only. cancelled it right before the law was supposed to take effect, since sooo many businesses / issuers / banks / etc were just not ready.
@M'vy yeah.... no that does not work

@AviD But, don't you do kids to have people to serve you ?
well, I'm mean exploit ?
well, express their unconditional love to you

@M'vy huh. now there's a thought.
food. they'll cook food for you.

:P

11:48 AM
IF you provide all the ingredients and clean up after them.

hehe

thought actually, my eldest is now working in the neighborhood shop, so we often have her bring home some things after her shift....

:)
Well, I have just increased the return on investment of my mom, sending her flowers for mother's day.

d'awwww
I am sure those flowers will come in handy, when she's hungry or her rent is due.

^^

11:53 AM
makes up for carrying in her womb for 9 months, then a horrid childbirth, then daipers, screaming, lack of sleep, crazy costs for everything from school to summercamp to music lessons, college, etc etc.
But at least she'll get flowers once a year. ;-)
damn, I really should call mine.

:)

@ScottPack Best room re-entry statement for quite some time there. Good work!
@AviD not in the UK, they don't!

@RoryAlsop have you tried handing a non-chipped card to a store in the UK lately?
spoiler: they manage.

@AviD they can still take them, but you'll get 'tut's from the folks queueueueueing behind you, and as you know, in Britain that is similar to excommunication
:-)

@RoryAlsop lol
though to be fair, I'm not sure how worried about excommunication someone in the midst of credit card fraud will be.
though, I dunno. If he's English, it is a big deal.
I need to update my rule about pci compliance, I guess

12:07 PM
won't get invited back to Lady Stuffington's for scones after the fete...

fete ? is that English?
(or is borrowed from the French 'fête' ?)

@M'vy I just couldn't figure out where to get that little hat for my 'e'
;-P

^^
(on the extended uk layout for win7 it's AltGr-6 e btw)

@M'vy that doesn't work on my extended UK keyboard (because win-7 is a distant pipe dream here...)
actually - this machine is on Win 7
hmmm
wonder why it no worky

does not work on std uk

12:18 PM
admittedly this is a virtual machine on a citrix farm somewhere, so there may be config quirks

only extended
@RoryAlsop yeah this surely won't help :P

1:14 PM
@M'vy maybe @RoryAlsop was talking about cheese.
cheeeeeese

hm

@AviD security.stackexchange.com/questions/90284/chroot-ssh-users has votes for migration but has been reposted, please close in place

done

@Gilles does seem easy to solve by using the already configured chroot and denying +w on the home dir.
But yeah totally off-topic here

Q: Finding a question for my research study

VijiniI'm new to the computer security area. But I feel that this area is very interesting field. I decide to do my research on this area. Can you suggest the questions faced in industry which I can address in my research.

GRRRRRR

@nealmcb Nice article.

@SteveDL Get used to it. This is the internet.
Hi, this is a box I can type in. I would like to know about X. Please tell me some things about X. Thanks.
@nealmcb not surprising outcomes, thanks for adding that though :) All my secret questions are chosen to not apply to me and the answers are randomly generated strings stored in a separate keepass database :)
because I totally think secret questions are a good idea! NOT!
@SteveDL no news r.e. interview. Was supposed to be y'day or today so
either the guy is v busy or there won't be one. We shall see.

7:42 PM
