@DavidFreitag I'm working on the Object editor right now.
I've finished almost all of it

@MarkHulkalo Once you port the game objects I can run some serialization time trials
I know they will be subject to change, but we can get a rough estimate

Yeah, subject to change for sure
I'm thinking the whole thing needs to be JSON
so we can just change the class objects and that's it
on load, import main structure json, convert to appropriate treeview. store listview column format, with image data info, etc

Yup that's what I'm thinking too

on treeview afterselect, display appropriate listview columns for that type of object, and then list all objects

1:29 AM
@JourneymanGeek That actually really pisses me off. There's a 24/7 helpdesk for terrorism...

@MarkHulkalo right until it gets infiltrated.
Then it gets fun.

Haha

@JourneymanGeek Everyone's always down for some Netflix and infiltration.

A: Can malware be transmitted via a USB charger plugged into a wall socket?

David FreitagThere is nothing stopping an attacker from putting a powerline ethernet transceiver as well as a USB-enabled microcontroller into a USB charger. This would allow them to communicate with the charger in the hope to offload some malware onto a smartphone plugged into that port. However, such a devi...

OK, I added a bit more information...
Heh, that answer made it onto the "Hot questions" list
I was wondering where all the updoots were coming from

BNice
I undeleted my post and updated it
Lost nearly 2 hours of productivity on this editor
I accidentally fork-bombed myself

jrg
3:40 AM
Ah, those are the best.

@MarkHulkalo lolwut?

4:35 AM
@DavidFreitag Instead of copying a few images to the resources in visual studio, I "accidentally" (see: moron) copied about 7000 images
and VS tried to load each one individually

@MarkHulkalo That's what you get for copying images into VS

I was trying to load them into the resources folder lol

That's why you copy them in windows and use "Add Existing Item..."

Also how did you lose 2 hours? You don't save religiously?

4:38 AM
No, I saved. I just let the computer run a black screen for 2 hours before rage-pushing the reset button
Watched Dr. Who instead

So I'm doing the Object Window first
along with all it's functionality. Everything will be handled from there
That'll take the brunt of the time

We should find some real time collaboration software

Yeah, uh... got Skype or something?
Or do you mean code collaboration

4:42 AM
VS Anywhere?
Hmm. Appears to be unfree.

I guess I could settle for TS or Mumble or something

no microphone or speakers attached to this computer

You don't have a headset?

Nah
I'll message you on the UE4 friends list, sec

Make a bitbucket and put your java code up so I can do something

4:53 AM
alright
Gimme your BitBucket name

@MarkHulkalo dvdfreitag

Did you get the invite?

Editor push is coming soon
Keep in mind it's pretty incomplete

Do you have a hipchat account?

5:04 AM
Got steam/skype/whatever?
I don't

Hipchat is nice because it has clients for pretty much every os
Also it's got image/gif/webm support

Oh crap

Also you can hook HipChat to a BitBucket repo, which is nice

@DavidFreitag what woudl that do for you?

@tylerl Notifications for commits, bug reports, pull requests etc
And I'm pretty sure you can reference specific commits in chat

5:15 AM
@DavidFreitag one second. this dumb thing keeps accusing me of being someone else
I forgot to reconfig git

@MarkHulkalo That's coo

@DavidFreitag First commit is up. I'm gonna get hipchat going

the feck

What?

5:29 AM
Give me a second
Did it show me as having signed up?
Because it won't let me visit your page
You may need to invite me

invite me. @HulkMuffalo

Need yo email
@MarkHulkalo bro

I sent it

Invite sent

5:35 AM
This is so stupid
It says I'm already signed up on your chat, but there's no way to see that.
Check to see if there's an invite pending

This is really dumb.
@MarkHulkalo Try clicking the link above

I did several times. It takes me to a different page
A different chat, and I'm stuck in there

What is the chat named?

Sent you an invite, maybe you can join mine

@MarkHulkalo Your invite didn't take me to a room

5:41 AM
This is horrible design. It sends people an invite asking them to set up their account
But if you already signed up, you're stuck in your little cubicle

I feel like we're missing something
@MarkHulkalo You have a room made in that team?

Which is why it's terrible design
Yeah
And I can't invite you

Try pasting a link to it

LOL, that loaded me into my chat
THIS IS FUCKING DUMB

5:42 AM
Yep
Let me sign up under a different name
and email
Okay what the hell. I logged out, then clicked your link, and it logged me in again to MY page

An account has already been created using that email: can't edit email
...

check you email again

Tried it. Email already registered, and can't change it. If I try to tamper with the data and send a different email, it doesn't work

Maybe it doesn't like private rooms, so I did an open one

5:48 AM
I joined your room, and I'm the only one there

I'm going to try the windows app

okay..............
I think I found the problem. I'm in Europe on my VPN
And I think it's redirecting us to country-specific servers

So it is your fault!
@MarkHulkalo So switch it to US West and try again

No go
I give up. going to bed for a bit

@MarkHulkalo Do you have a gmail?

Q: Can malware be transmitted via a USB charger plugged into a wall socket?

Stone TrueI have a smart phone that I often plug into a wall socket for charging via a small adapter that rectifies the AC to DC power and transforms the voltage from line (120V or 240V) to 5 V DC. Standard stuff. I am concerned that if there is broadband on the power lines, for example powerline etherne...

Such paranoia.
I'm tempted to suggest plugging it in next to a washing machine and running it when you're charging a phone.

2 hours later…
8:41 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah but only paranoia driven by a fundamental lack of understanding.

@DavidFreitag I have a passing understanding of how hard it is, exactly to do powerline networking.
And squeezing that into something the size of a USB charger would be a work of art.

@JourneymanGeek Not really
You already have powerline ethernet dongles that are the size of a reasonably-sized USB mains charger

Wallwart sized.
And USB chargers are relatively small now

But I bet if you cracked one open you would find it's mostly empty in there.
@JourneymanGeek Tablet chargers aren't that small.

8:46 AM
And what it would take is one more chip and that's it
Well, one more chip, magnetics for ethernet, some passives, and probably a small regulator.

wouldn't need ethernet here
so a simple ARM chip maybe with memory built in?

Well you would in order to tap into the powerline ethernet

There's varients that don't do 'ethernet' out tho

Better yet, slap a USB microcontroller with a 950MHz transceiver and you can drop a payload from miles away with a decent antenna.

That makes more sense
or just having the payload on a non connected charger.

8:52 AM
Well cause at least then you don't need two devices in the target building
@JourneymanGeek They make an ARM WSBGA chip that will fit inside one of the dimples on a golf ball.
Shit is nuts

1:16 PM
@JourneymanGeek You'd be paranoid too if you saw how far the CPC would go to get information from a damn nobody.
@DavidFreitag Nah.

@MarkHulkalo in that case I'd tear apart every power supply I'd use.
and see if I could filter our my power

Most "power-based" attacks, as far as I know, are based on replacing a target's charging block.
For example, I've left a hotel room and left my charging block in there for several hours. When I returned, my block was replaced with one that didn't have the plastic I accidentally left on, and which didn't have the adaptive fast charging feature. So it charged noticeably slow

Same color, same company logo... different feature set. :)

4 hours later…

@DavidFreitag new commit with a test object plus lots of empty ones.

@RоryMcCune hmm yeah well thats what happens when you do things surreptitiously over the weekend while I'm gone...
