Q: Mormonism teaches that Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and they both volunteered to be the Savior of mankind. Where in the Bible is this taught?

Mr. BondThey base this teaching on Job 38:7, "When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy." The LDS prove this plan based on their own writings, not from the Bible. They quote from the Book of Abraham at Abraham 3:27 and from the Book of Moses at Moses 4:2. This story is...

Mr. Bond please be more specific about the term bible here. If you ask an Ids question, you have to accept their Scriptures. Questions to Catholics or Orthodox Churches and would have to accept their Duerterocanonical texts. 'Traditional Christianity struggled for many years to define its canon, to determine which of its writings were sacred, inspired, and authoritative. The Latter-day Saint concept of canon differs from that of other Christians. In addition to the Bible, the Latter-day Saint canon includes the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price."

Your question seems to assume that everything the LDS teaches must be found in a specific canon, you call “the Bible”. As there are many canons, that gives at least one problem, maybe two. Is your assumption correct and does the LDS claim all they teach is based on a “the Bible”? And what canon makes that “the Bible” and is that the same canon as your “the Bible”?
oh, I see Ken and I had the same question :)

My question is based on Job 38:7 and its immediate context. The context is about God being the creator as clearly explained. The LDS is applying Job 38:7 to support their claim that Jesus and Satan were considered to be the Savior of the world and Jesus was chosen over Satan, his spirit brother. I want to know how they reconcile this glaring contradiction using their writings as compared to what Job 38:7 in context states.
@ABM I'm NOT assuming anything. I'm asking a legitimate question. For instance, Joseph Smith at 14 years old had a vision and God the Father and Jesus the Son appeared to him. The Bible says God the Father cannot be physically seen so I would naturally ask how Smith can prove God the Father is a physical being? This in view of the Bible saying the Father cannot be physically seen according to Jesus Himself at John 5:37 and Joh 6:46. This is an example of my question in this thread. Anybody can state a position, but I was taught you have to prove your position. Acts 17:11.

@Mr.Bond Where in the Bible does it say that God cannot be physically seen?

@Audra. John 4:24 teaches, "God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth." This means God is a spiritual being. Secondly, Jesus said at John 5:37, "And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form." John 6:46, "Not that any man hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father." John 1:18, "No man has seen God at anytime; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." God was seen physically in the OT, the preincarnate Jesus Christ.

@Mr.Bond Thanks! I'm not LDS, so I don't know much about this account, but I was curious about this topic. I just want to let you know that I wasn't disputing with your claim.

That's fine Audra I didn't think you were a Mormon and your question is often asked. John 5:47 and John 6:46 are the words of Jesus Himself. According to Mormonism, "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's (Doctrines and Covenants 130:22). Also, "we know that both the Father and the Son are in form and stature perfect men; each of them possesses a tangible body...of flesh and bones." (Articles of Fath (1899, 38.) Please read the Mormon site I posted in this thread regarding their plan on who should be the Savior, Jesus or Satan.
@Audra. One more thing taken from Luke 2:11, "for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Luke shows the importance of Jesus' place in the Davidic line by referring to Bethlehem as "the city of David." "Savior" has its background in the OT (yesha) where it is used of God as He acts on behalf of His people Israel (Psalm 25:5; 27:1, Isaiah 45:15; et al.) Now, I cannot imagine (at least according to Mormon teaching) how Satan could possibly be from the line of David and the Christ/Messiah the Lord? Therefore in my opinion it should be rejected.

I do not say the question is not legitimate. But I do say it is not valid to ask a question in the wrong context. If I ask you about something happening in Niger, where does the Argentinian law state that it is legal, you would not be able to answer and you would not think my question made sense. You would be right. In te same way you should be clear about LDS context, in your question. My personal believes or opinions don’t matter, it is a matter of logic.

No ABM. My question is in the right context. The LDS church clearly stated in their website that a Savior was needed and Jesus Christ volunteered and so did Lucifer/Satan. Jesus was chosen and this plan according to the LDS is based on Job 38:7. The verse simply states, "When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?" According to the context starting at vs 1, God is addressing Job and telling him He is the only creator. Read the whole chapter and tell me where is the LDS plan is located? It's not here but in their own writings which would be circular reasoning.

Job 38:7 is not the basis of the title, it is the basis for When the plan for our salvation was presented to us in the premortal spirit world, we were so happy that we shouted for joy

@depperm My Ids friends, this question may interest you?

@Ken Graham. A biblical cannon is a set of texts which a particular Jewish or Christian religious community regards as part of the Bible. The only Biblical text the LDS came up with was Job 38:7. This verse has nothing to do with a Savior being needed for man kinds salvation. The LDS church is using this verse to demonstrate how happy they are that Heavenly Father provided to us in the premortal spirit world a way for salvation. The LDS did not use any Biblical verses but quoted their own sources which is the Book of Abraham and the Book of Moses. These books are not Scripture.

@Mr.Bond they (the books) are to members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And again if you read the provided answer or your linked article there are other biblical texts to back up the belief, just maybe not enough to 'prove' it

"The Latter-day Saint concept of canon differs from that of other Christians. In addition to the Bible, the Latter-day Saint canon includes the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price." - Historicity and the Latter-day Saint Scriptures

I'm well aware of that since I have been dealing with them for about 60 years. Plus the fact like Anne here I have a ton of their books and materials. With God's help I have led a number of LDS out of Mormonism. They are wonderful people and do great things for humanity. The movie The Sound Of Freedom the real guys name is Tim Ballard who has 7 kids is a Mormon. The BOM is another testament of Jesus Christ which is not needed. Just read Jude 3 for starters. And lastly, what I say about Mormons and how I feel about them are two different things. They need the real Jesus and the real gospel.

The answer is clearly nowhere in the traditional 66 book canon known as the Bible. Mormons would not be Mormons if they only used the traditional 66book canon.

@depperm I understand how your using Job 38:7 Look at my specific question? Where in the Bible does it teach that Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and they both volunteered to be the Savior of mankind? Where specifically according to Gods plan that Satan, who was called Lucifer, also came, saying, "Behold, here am I, send me I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, Btw, It was Isaiah who said, "Here I am send me' at Isaiah 6:8. Is this plan in the BOM? Where does the Bible say this?
