Hi @Joshua The question was about what critical scholars think, and by and large they believe that John was written early in the second century. My answer focussed on the first century, because the question asks "Do source-criticism scholars think the doctrine of Atonement originated after the Crucifixion?"
@Joshua I don't see John 11:49-52 as being about atonement, and I don't think many "secular" scholars would. When Caiaphas said "... expedient for us that one man should die for the people ..." I suggest he was talking about keeping the peace with Rome. Even if a man (Jesus) was wrongly executed, this would be a public good if it benefited the people of Judea.
