Q: Time to fork Markdown?

Jack DouglasIt's been nearly 18 months since Jeff Atwood asked about The Future of Markdown, proposing that... ...Stack Exchange, GitHub, Meteor, Reddit, and any other company with lots of traffic and a strategic investment in Markdown, all work together to come up with an official Markdown specification...

Did we ever get tables? I've desperately wanted markdown for tables on a handfull of my posts on BH.SE and is still painful for footnotes.
I can only imagine how excruciating it is over at DBA...

@JamesShewey not yet :) The CommonMark spec work is proceeding: talk.commonmark.org/t/issues-to-resolve-before-1-0-release/1287/…
but the priority is to get a consistent spec for the basics of MarkDown and tebles etc are not on the agenda for the 1.0 spec

That's good. As long as it isn't dead in the water and totally forgotten.

not dead but we'll have to be patient: once there is a 1.1 spec (that might include tables), in maybe a year's time, SE might start thinking about adding support, and who knows how long that will take!
