@Davïd Woah, that LXX Ps 11:5 is interesting. That requires altering the consonants, though, right? To get from וְאֹהֵ֣ב חָמָ֑ס שָֽׂנְאָה נַפְשֽׁוֹ to ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν ἀδικίαν μισεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν -- שנאה needs to be masculine. Oh, is that ה not a "real" consonant? OK, it's not. Were those there in the LXX vorlage? I feel like I should know this.

what is the scripture in the old testament that talks about leaving a tenth of your land for the poor and widowed to farm?
Leviticus 23:22
among a couple of others.

Q: Why aren't downvotes removed when the reason for giving them no longer exists?

enegueTo @Dan specifically, because his comments are being presented here, but generally, to all who behave in like manner. Here are Dan's comments attached to my answer concerning Interpretations of Elihu in Job He said: Revelation has no place in a question about Job. This is not a Christian s...

@Malachi Is it supposed to be a tenth? Didn't know that part. This question about gleaning has links to the main references I think.

I was confusing more than one scripture. I don't think it is a Tenth, it was the gleaning part is what I was thinking about. leaving what is left behind and the corners for the Poor
@Susan thank you for that question it was helpful.

Q: What level of downvotes would constitue serial downvoting?

enegueAfter I had asked this question, Why aren't downvotes removed when the reason for giving them no longer exists?, I received a message saying that serial downvoting had been removed - today! This drew my attention to yesterday's activity which revealed a downvoting frenzy against my answers, show...

Q: Is this an example of a good question?

enegue@Susan posed this question “High and lifted up” in Isaiah for the members to consider. I would like some feedback about it. Is it a good question? If you think so, 12 people have so far, then can you indicate why you think it is. There is a glaring unsubstantiated claim being made in the questi...

Take two days off and come back to meta craziness.

So after this comment:
If you don't want to play the game @ThaddeusB, then simply stop participating. — enegue 5 mins ago
I take back what I said previously about not wanting to discourage enegue. Unsound hermeneutic technique is one thing. Treating SE as some sort of game is quite another.

@ThaddeusB. I will do that in due course. The second part of my question provides plenty of scope for answers other than Caleb's. The fact that you guys are not seeing the problem with Susan's question is a problem. If you can't see it in the specific question I have identified, then she has a free hand to subliminally manipulate anyone who comes to this site. — enegue 15 mins ago
I suppose (may be wrong) he’s concerned about the assumption that people used language in normal ways to write the Bible.

@Susan I would guess it is "which is apparently an Isaiah-ism" that he is referring to. Not that I think he really has a problem with the question; he really has a problem with people criticizing his methods and is just "playing games" to make a (supposed) point about others also making assumptions.

@ThaddeusB Agreed and agreed.

This phrase has popped into my mind more than once today..... Alas. I failed.

@Davïd Yeah, but he has put a lot of work into (what I find to be mostly fallacious) posts on this site. He’s not only trying to stir up trouble. But things are certainly not moving in a productive direction at this point, so I take your point.

@Susan Agreed. He didn't start out problematic, but things have definitely been going downhill.

@ThaddeusB Comments on meta are a little different, because discussion is allowed and others need to see and evaluate how a situation developed we don't clean up obsolete/not-constructive comments the way we do on main.
Sometimes when a situation is fully resolved or posts are fixed comments can be obsolete, or if something is really offensive and we end up suspending over it we can later clean up, but in the middle of a misunderstanding isn't the time.

7:54 PM
@Caleb The ones I flagged as obsolete were "see edited comment" and an acknowledgement of the edit, but OK.
