@FrankLuke Hi Frank, your treatise on Gap Theory couldn't have come at a more opportune time-our pastor broached the topic in detail, using the asah and bara argument, along with the various forms of hyh, swapping of course the Qal perfect and imperfect in the process. Thanks for including your link to tohu waw bohu as this came up also. These arguments paint this view as 'gospel' and put it out of reach to mere mortals; thank you again for confirming my suspicions!

@user2479 @FrankLuke During this last Sunday, I was talking with one of our leaders in our church. He mentioned Isaiah 45:18 and Hebrews 11:3 - He is YEC. However, he believes that there was a very short time gap between verse 1 and 2 in order to include the fall of satan.

@PaulVargas The issue is not really about how much time elapsed-2Pet. 3:8 says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day". We don't have to try to explain why stars several million light years away can be explained in a 24hr time period.
@PaulVargas The key point in refuting the "Gap Theory" is taking away the presupposition that God "pre-created" a universe, put it under the dominion of Satan, then destroyed it, leaving it tohu waw bohu or "void and waste"(evil), then give us an account of creation where everything He created(again) is good.

@user2479 I like to read the scriptures without any preconceived ideas (that's what I try). Possibly the interpretation does not match the modern theories of cosmology. However, the purpose of Scripture was not to describe the universe, but talk about that within the redemptive plan of God for man.

@PaulVargas Yes!!!! and Amen!!!!!! :>))
"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works(2 Tim 3:15-17)

@user2479 I like to think that what Scripture says is true. And for me that's fine.
Our time is short under the sun. Maybe in a hundred years no one will remember me. If I wanted to be remembered, is pure vanity.

@All My take is God is not obligated to explain every and all phenomena in the known universe, He did give us His Word to make us "wise unto salvation" and "fruitful in every good work"(Col. 1:10). We are to "eat from the Tree of Life" which will explain what comes from the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil".
@All(cont.) We forget that there was no commandment about eating from the Tree of Life. God never intended that we "not have knowledge", but rather we would know the Truth-Truth only comes from eating from that Tree.
@All(finally) In modern day vernacular, "Science" is the knowledge of the Tree of Good and Evil; it may have conclusive evidence, but we must never accept it's conclusions; it's only when they are 'exposed' to the Tree of Life that we can ascertain their Truth and purpose. That the "Higgs Boson" exists is not the issue, but is it the 'God Particle'?
@PaulVargas I like John of the Cross's statement ,"At the end of our lives, we'll be known for our love". A godly man(or woman) raises a godly generation which is blessed to the umpteenth generation. And a godly generation is what is needed to turn things around in these desperate times...

@user2479 I'm glad it was helpful. We've started discussing this at my church on Wed nights, now.
@PaulVargas I've given a lot of thought about when Satan fell, and I don't think the Bible gives enough details to be definite. However, I think that fall happened after the creation week. At the end of the week, God looks at everything and "lo, it was very good." I have difficulty reconciling "very good" with Satan having fallen, rebelled in the heavens, and led astray 1/3 of the angels.

@FrankLuke And what do you think concerning angels? At what point do you think they were created? Does God continues creating angels today?

@PaulVargas I read Job 38:4-7 to say that the angels ("sons of God") were created on the first day with the heavens but before the earth itself. I don't think angels would still be created today.
