^^^ Sorry - obvioulsy I haven't worked out how comments on Main posts get pulled into chat! =/ @Susan - were you thinking you had deleted that post, or turned it into a comment? It looks open still, but the comment to poster mentions "re-opening" after edit...?

@All All Scripture is inspired by God, once canonicity has been determined. The Church exercises the authority of God based Sacred Revelation, of which Scripture is a key component.

@user2479 Are you Catholic?

@BruceAlderman No(though I was for many years). The Sola Scriptura argument has a number of flaws in it, chiefly where one finds 'authority'.

@user2479 I agree with you there.

@BruceAlderman I read (skimmed, mostly) your link by N.T. Wright, and he seems to concede this issue; the problem with putting 'the Bible' on the seat of authority, rather than the church is that every man can find 'authoritative' reasons for their actions, and if you disagree-start your own church.

@Davïd Hm, it looks to be deleted to me (which is, I think, why the associated comment won't pull into chat).

@Susan You are so right! Odd - I'm sure that when I was puzzled before (I have so many to choose from), it was a good 30+? minutes after your comment, and the post was plain "white". Anyway - thanks for checking, and apologies for the aggro!

@All Christ entrusted His Apostles to carry on His work on the face of the earth. He breathed on them(John 20:22), ordained them(Mk. 3:14), to carry out His authority on the earth. That authority was transferred to their followers; at no time did He ever remove it(Matt. 28:20). Therefore, Christ's authority always rests on human vessels chosen for His service-in spite of their fallibility and failures of exercising it.

@Davïd No problem, thanks as always for the flag.
