please help me to understand this meaning: diode can fail closed means diode can open circuited, is it correct?

@KrishnShweta Closed probably means the opposite of open.
So "fail closed" means it acts like a short circuit after failure, not an open circuit.

Okay, so short out means open circuit.

@KrishnShweta NO
Short out means short circuit
short means short
open means open
This is as simple as it could possibly be

I was trying to understand one question asked in EE.SE electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/77712/…
the sentence there is I know a diode can short out and fail closed. Is it possible for a diode to fail in the open position, and what would cause this to happen?

"a diode can short out and fail closed" is just expressing the same thing two ways. The diode fails so that it acts like a wire (aka short circuit aka closed switch).
A diode that fails short (aka closed) is likely to turn into an open if enough current is available to damage it further.

Okay... that created lot of confusion. @ThePhoton Thanks :)

Quick question. What would be the best thing to use here, where I've circled the connections?
Let's assume there are more than just two wires converging there.

@NathanOsman What do you mean "best thing to use here"?
You're looking for some kind of connector?

Well, I have a single wire coming from hot at a wall socket and I need it split into eight wires to connect to some relays.
I want something I can safely use to connect the wires.
