@AJHenderson ISO impacts read noise by heating sensor causing charges to build up ultimately increasing gain to boost low levels of signal and noise?

@Boris_yo not exactly. The sensor has a level of heat independent of iso. Let's say this causes a signal of 1 to randomly appear on some pixels
When you aren't multiplying the value (low iso) it isn't very noticeable
If you start amplifying (multiplying) the value, suddenly that random 1 is a random 100 and it is now highly noticeable
The amount of noise didn't actually increase, but rather the amount of signal decreased
Our perception of how noisy something is is based around the signal to noise ratio
And high iso has low signal that is highly amplified but both signal and noise are amplified
