Q: Weekly Featured Image for Nov. 4, 2010

chills42This is the place to submit and vote on photos for the week of Nov 4. to be featured on the main site (Where "Morning of Dec. 22" by Grant Palin currently sits) Rules: Limit one photo per person per week. Limit one submission per photo (so don't repost from other weeks). Keep all images approp...

indeed!

Should we be closing each weeks featured image thread once one has been selected? To prevent people from intentionally or accidentally submitting more to them?

5:50 PM
I've been "locking" them

6:12 PM
@jrista Probably best to lock them once we open the "next thread"
@chills42 As he's been doing :)

6:34 PM
I wonder if we could have meta.photo.stackexchange.com taken off the list of top referring sites
that one is kind of dumb to use as a primary source of traffic, as the bulk of meta hits probably start out by someone clicking the meta link on the parent site anyway
It is nice to see that Rowland's twittering is bringing in some good traffic though :)

6:46 PM
heh, we got 55 search hits for "bike stackexchange"
wtf?
It would be nice if they would plot monthly trend lines on our graphs too
so we can see if we are trending up or down each month

@jrista where are you seeing this?

in the analytics tab for mods

haha, wow... I hadn't noticed it yet

:)
its pretty cool
its been around for a while
maybe a month?

granted i don't spend much time looking through the mod stuff...

6:52 PM
I go through it every so often

really nice to see though

yeah

haha, aol and ask are used more than bing
nice

I like bing
it gives good results
and when they did Bing CashBack, I got like $800 back from my camera gear purchases

nice
That'd give me a reason to try it
Hey, another thought... I'm sure we have a lot of users on flickr, so I just put together a group where we can share on flickr.

Jin
7:04 PM
joined

@jrista I only do a "little" bit of twittering ;)

@RowlandShaw haha... sure

@chills42 Is it worth making the site mods admins on there too as and when they join?

yeah, why not
I think we can trust them
:)

Those musty be different mods to us ;)

Jin
7:10 PM
I can't wait when I actually start using our SE sites.
photography definitely will be one I frequent

too busy working on them to use them?

Jin
@chills42 si...
I do read them quite a bit during my off time, but I rarely post/answer questions

@Jin Why wait? ;)

Jin
the Flickr group is a good idea. maybe down the road we can embed their slide player on the site.

Could invite all photo of the week submissions to the group (where there is a obvious linkage)

7:14 PM
@RowlandShaw "Little" must be redefined in this context. ;P
@Jin cool :)
@Jin Excellent idea!

Jin
I just don't know where to put it :)

Its too bad stackexchange is so rigid

Jin
normally the sidebar is reserved for meta information.. that's why I put the rotating photo in the header

Make the top taller -- that'd be a popular choice ;)

some more design flexibility would be nice

Jin
7:16 PM
@jrista yeah...

@Jin: Regarding the stippling to the right of the weekly photo

Could we have a static page (like the SE1 sites), and then link to it as a pseudo tab?

Any way you could make the stipple dots softer against the background? They really stand out right now.

Jin
@jrista sure. i'll tweak it this weekend
launching a new site today. actually, launching now.

which one?

7:18 PM
which one?

lol

I'm sure @photogangle could add a tweet of support

Jin
Statistics Analysis site

ah
heh, that would have been useful a month ago

Jin
stats.stackexchange.com just went live

7:18 PM
We recently did a lot of performance testing and statistical analysis

Jin
the new design that is

that must've been a toughy from a visuals point of view

heh, love it

Jin
it wasn't too bad

love the selected answer background
its a bell curve :D

Jin
7:19 PM
i just kept it simple 'n clean. it's what the users wanted
@jrista yeah the users had some good feedback, since i know nothing about statistics

@Jin Its pretty nice. Fits very well with a statistics site.

I like the ruler on the site message
Don't take this the wrong way, but I prefer it to the maths site....

heh, 'r' is the most used tag :D
ah, funny stuff

Jin
@RowlandShaw for the math site, i went for the ye old academic look. although i think the ruler would work there too

Right, all featured-photo submissions that link to Flickr have been invited to the group

7:33 PM
nice
