@Chad the primary reason I did not run for mod is that I have fairly seriously considered not even bothering to come to Workplace anymore

it isn't really fun having to deal with the masses of crap on the site, let alone dealing with our favorite friend

I was really disappointed at the turn that JMac and Rhys made in the last couple of days about letting the community decide and not wanting the mods to step in

We are seeing the broken window effect right now with these piss poor answers

I don't even mind so much about that, but the frustrating part is it doesn't seem like anyone other than you, me, rhys, jmac, gnat, and cmw care

I thikn its at a point of take action or step back and let it burn... I dont think it will take 6 months to lose its traffic

this makes it a lot less fun for me to contribute here, because it feels like all I am able to do is damage control

@enderland Worse it seems like we are the only ones that think keeping the quality up is a good idea

I don't know. it just feels more like a second job most of the time than something enjoyable

Nothing like spending 45 min putting together a quality answer just to have it eclipsed by bad answers that to 5 min to put together, are done with poor grammer and dont really answer that question but one the poster finds more interesting that they think the OP should have asked

Then for them to let certian users repeatedly act disrespectfully to us is irratating

@Chad I only have ever had a problem with jimg

they took some minor action yesterday, then he flagged our discussion which brought in an SE Guy who chastized him publically

but no suspension or anything

yeah I noticed a message of mine which was flagged in the "Review flags" thing and was quite confused

I have a lot more things I'd rather do too than screw around on SE all the time, as much fun as it is, it adds more stress to my life than I'd like if only because it's hard to spend as much energy in something and not care about it at least some

cause you are invested in it and know that with out your input the site suffers

so until you are ready to throw that away...

Yeah, though it's a sunk cost fallacy realistically, since my "investment" here is worth about zero (SO at least is "hey look you have SO rep" from an employer perspective)

We are at a critical point in the site. We are seeing huge growth of new users and posts... I think its going to keep growing at least if we keep it a place worth coming to.

@enderland No matter what you can say you help build this... if it collapses we lose that

there are really 10 people who have done most of the heavy lifting of the site. You, me Jmort are the only ones that have been here from at least near the start

yeah I don't know. I've increasingly felt like just walking away and not returning though...

honestly, there are a lot more things in my personal life which would be far more fufilling longer term than Workplace.SE too

honestly its pride more than anything that keeps me here. but if the standards go to hell then there is no pride left for me and that will be it

@Chad probably but if it's that big of a deal for me to stay, in some sense, I really should leave (sites like this cannot survive only on a few people)

@enderland I don't think either or both of us will really be the difference between this site going to crap or not. But we can definately help it towards the good side. But if that is not what you want to do then go.

Jmac made it in ill stick around and help him if he seems to want to tilt at the windmills at least for a while. If he doesnt ill be gone soon too.

We could be the second site shut down after launch for the same reason...
