I'm trying to find out what would be the technical term for Archer's (from the FX TV show "Archer") vocal trait when he's exasperated? It's kind of like hoarseness, vocal fry, or cracking.

The production of sounds used in language is part of that, phonetics.

Or perhaps that is the wrong definition, but you know what I mean.
