Can't wait until SE has support for runnable PowerShell. They're still Windows on the backend right? Just slap up the Web-based Windows PowerShell console and...

Bob
Lovely. WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT_SERVER, and a quick search implicates our backup software.

@MarkHenderson AT LEAST IT'S GONE NOW

Yet the scars will remain for years to come.

12:17 AM
Forever.

I vaguely remember Windows NT.

There was a time I had to manually perform so many NT4 Workstation installs I could do it with non-english media, mainly Chinese, serial and all from memory.

@jscott I'm pretty sure I can still do that with Windows XP.

@MichaelHampton You've a better memory than me! I think I forgot the key within a couple months after leaving that corp. Plus I moved on to, oh-la-la, Windows 2000 then.

@jscott I have the key written on the CD sleeve...

12:25 AM
Now with unattend.xml and KMS, I'd be hard pressed to even locate a legit key for 7/8.1.

12:41 AM
It's "waiting for activation." It hasn't been turned "on" yet. I don't know how much more obvious this can be. — Michael Hampton ♦ 45 secs ago
WTF ?

sigh

Guys! Guys! Have you seen this?

On Stack Overflow and our other code-related sites, creating a minimal, complete, and verifiable example is the best way to get an answer to your question. We’ve always loved JSFiddle and sites like it because they let both askers and answerers reference runnable, working code that demonstrates their problem or solution.

Unfortunately, the use of these external sites introduces a few problems:

If the link breaks, the post becomes worthless.

If the code isn’t embedded in the page, visitors are forced to go elsewhere to get the full content of the question or answer. …

@Wesley No worries, interwebs got you: livingaboard.net/faqs

Bob
@Shog9 Anyone taking bets on how many more times this'll be posted? :P

ZOMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!1!!

@jscott If my boats a rockin' then don't come a knockin! You should probably kick the door down because I might be having a seizure and need help.

@Wesley Illinois?! I know I don't stalk well, but are you working with Ed now? How you gonna get that thing to AZ? On a trailer???

@jscott Yeah, I'm buying a monster truck.
With a tow package and transmission cooler.
Gotta be able to haul boats!
And bikes.

Yo dawg, I heard you like stars, so I put a star in your star so you could star while you star.

12:57 AM
@ewwhite Doesn't like to work with me anymore ever since he grew his hair out and I can't stop licking it.

@Wesley Just run over the bike parts with the monster truck. Save money in the long run.

Blah. Silly resume question. I officially graduate as of the 10th of next month. Is it too early to say I am?

@JourneymanGeek Finals completed?

@jscott: yup

Done then I'd say.

12:58 AM
Ended up getting a credit on my white whale module

Unless you have to sort the bill on the way out.

naw, all paid up, right down to the gown rental.
(I wanted to skip the ceremony, but it apparently means a lot to my mom. ;p)

Moms can be like that, which can be nice/awkward. But you should be proud of your work too.

@JourneymanGeek I read that as "White Male Modulus" and was confused.

@Wesley: the joys and trials of dyslexia. I read my friend complaining about a persistant kitchen spider, as a persistant salad spinner.

1:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek What do you call a vegetarian with diarrhea?
Salad Shooooterrrr!!!
Only works if you grew up with American TV I guess.

0_0
Yeah

1:14 AM
I killed chat.
Sup @ewwhite
Chillin' on your Swopper?

Bob
@Wesley murderer!

1:36 AM
@Wesley stressing out

1:50 AM
lol watching a webcast of a Veeam demo and the woman is cussing out how slow the VMWare web interface is
I hear you sister

Bob
Hmm... the Opal reader on this bus has a little bit of text on the bottom left: "Starting Apps..."
I'm now wondering if they based it on Android.

Everyone refers to it as the "web interface", is it not an Adobe Flash interface?

@jscott I think the main flash thing is the console? I'm not sure
I think the majority of it is HTML5/javascript

@MarkHenderson Get out! what's all this "https://server:9443/vsphere-client/UI.swf" shit then?!
btw, I don't expect I'm correct. I just remember I had to install Flash to get the web ui working on my computer. :(

Bob
2:07 AM
@jscott ...at least it's not Java.
looks at iDRAC console

@Bob That's not helping... :(
As I admin mostly Windows, I still haven't figured who I despise more; Adobe and their Reader/Flash/Shockwave, or Oracle and their damned Java JRE.

Bob
@jscott People still use Shockwave?!?!
I haven't seen it in... a decade?
Back when it was still Macromedia.

2:22 AM
@Bob Even better, Adobe was bundling an old, vulnerable, Flash runtime with Shockwave.

Bob
@jscott "vulnerable Flash" is rather redundant.

@Bob Sure, but at least eat the shit from the latest branch your own company serves.

@jscott Shit you're right
I had no idea

@MarkHenderson Not often, I assure you.

Bob
@jscott Bet it just plain doesn't work.
They attempted some kind of new sandboxing with a Flash update a year or so ago... broke Flash in Firefox quite badly.
Huh, two years ago.

2:28 AM
eh, flash is kinda broken for me. rightclicks on embedded youtube videos cause flash to crash... which sort of locks up my system

Bob
@JourneymanGeek FF? Chrome? IE? shudder Safari?

Question for the Americans here: Is learning to add and subtract different fractions part of your curriculum at school?

firefox

E.g. I was watching a youtube video the other day where the guy needed to make a cut that was 6/8th of an inch deep, but then he needed to subtract 5/16ths from it to make it the right part
And I thought "shit that woudl take me like 30 seconds ot work out and I'd probably get it wrong"

but if i'm using it with synergy, and I'm on the other screen.... I need to suspend and unsuspend the system to regain contril.

Bob
2:31 AM
@JourneymanGeek Try disabling protected mode.

lol
@MarkHenderson; 12/16-5/16 = 7/16

@JourneymanGeek Which is a dumb number to work with anyway
7/16th of an inch

Bob
@JourneymanGeek kb.mozillazine.org/…
It makes it slightly more insecure, but it's not like normal Flash is particularly secure anyway. Just use click-to-play and don't activate it unless completely necessary...
Also, don't you just love how it dumps its config files in a system folder?
@MarkHenderson How do you visualise that? :S
I suppose "slightly less than half"

Wow, wanna go spend some downvotes?

Q: How to use Wireless and Wired Connection both at a same time in Windows 7?

user1379055I am using Windows 7 Problem is while using internet in Wireless if i connect LAN cable to my laptop, it stop Wireless connection and Wired Connection gets active. I am using Internet using Wireless and doing my work through Wired Connection I want to use Wireless and Wired Connections both ...

only on SU do i see such shitty answers (apologies to @JourneymanGeek)

ahem
"Migrated from stackexchange"

Bob
2:40 AM
> ten answers
> migrated from stackoverflow
yea, a bunch of em are gonna be shitty

@JourneymanGeek Most of the answers cama after the migration :p

and that's a funny thing. I know for a fact you can be connected via wired and wireless connections at once

Admittedly, not the worst answers

and windows favours the wired connection

Bob
> I installed VMware and Install a windows on it! In the original Windows, I use wireless connection , and in VMware windows, I use wired connection. maybe it can help you :)
omfg wat

2:41 AM
Of course, I've actually experimented before I asked a question

@JourneymanGeek I think the first answer is correct, some bright spark at the OEM installed something that disables the WiFi on LAN connect

@MarkHenderson: a more complete question would verify that tho

@JourneymanGeek Given that the dude posted the question on SO does not leave me with much confidence that he will do anything correctly

My favourite answer is the guy telling him to buy a Cisco router when he clearly has no idea what he's talking about

2:44 AM
lol

Bob
And no chain of bad answers is complete without either a "use a different OS!" or "use a VM!" one.
Sometimes both.

@Bob Use FreeBSD in a HyperV VM!

actually ... ;p
I was experimenting with a node.js based proxy at one point

Hrm my cabling provider is having a sale on pink patch leads :P

@MarkHenderson: time to stock up? ;p

Bob
2:48 AM
@MarkHenderson What kind of pricing counts as a sale?

5 hours ago, by Mark Henderson
I have found that I really like bright pink and bright purple patch cables. It seems to raise people's interest and helps them stick to the colour scheme
So yes, I think I will stock up

lol
someday....
@MarkHenderson: bright purple? 0_0

@JourneymanGeek It works
I should find a photo, hang on

and eh. I need to take down everything from my desk to redo the cabling

Bob
@MarkHenderson Hm. About the same (a tad more) than a recent DSE sale on cat6 cables.
They were blue though.
I now have a rather large pile of 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m and 15m cables that I don't raelly need.

2:53 AM
lol

@Bob You'll need them eventually

You always end up either having too many or too little cables.

Bob
@MarkHenderson Pretty much.

And I can't find a decent installation; I'm going to an office tongiht that has a nice multi-coloured install

Bob
I was always lacking cables before.

2:53 AM
Never one when you need one, tripping over the damned things when you do

@JourneymanGeek I have a big organiser box filled with them

Bob
Now I have... 10 + 6 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 for future personal use.

Green, purple, red, orange, yellow, white, and even some blue

Bob
And nothing to use them on.

@MarkHenderson: oh, ethernet is usually not a problem. I was having trouble with power cables.
same reason I hoard 12V wallwarts ;p

Bob
2:55 AM
@JourneymanGeek What, the standard IEC C13 ones?

This is my one at home a while back, I've cleaned it up (and expanded it a bit) since

Bob
I have entirely too many of those.

@Bob: yeah.

Bob
...we should've swapped :P

2:56 AM
Blue = normal, purple = wifi, orange = protected network

@Bob: found one eventually

Bob
Heh. I need to set up a proper patch panel sometime.

Bob
The original electrician's work is basically a large bundle of cables hanging out of the wall.

My network is organic
Which is fancy speak for completely unplanned

Bob
2:59 AM
It's not even all that expensive, but I'd need to find the time and space for it...

@Bob: I really only need 3 cables to act as a backbone, 2 of which can go along existing cabling ducts

Bob
@JourneymanGeek But your network is primarily wireless, isn't it?

Weirdly? No
ONT -> Router 1 -> Router -> 2 -> Homeplug -> switch. Router 1 has the raspi on it, router 2 had the shared PC, seedbox/home server and one of the homeplug nodes on it, switch has my 3 systems on it
wifi is entirely as a backup, my brother's and dad's PCs and the 4 phones and 2 tablets are wireless
Wireless is almost entirely useless here for my use
(especially when, even with the homeplug setup, I'm getting better speeds than wifi, with much better reliability)

3:54 AM
@MichaelHampton Sup man.
Weep on me.
Oops
Wrong man.
But you can weep on me too.
@ewwhite Sup man.
Weep on me.
Let's just all weep manly tears.

@Wesley Why are we crying?
Did Justin Beiber cancel his tour?
Did One Direction break up?

Did Peter Andre make a comeback?

@DennisKaarsemaker Please say yes
Not enough Australians in America
Or europe
Or anywhere!
Need moar Australians

There's an aussie sitting right next to me in the office, and at least one more on the same floor. That's too many already.
There's a few kiwis too, that doesn't help

@DennisKaarsemaker Call him a cunt. He will thank you for it.

4:07 AM
I did. He did not.

And here was me thinking it was a term of endearment
Maybe you used it wrong?
It's gotta be like "Howya goin cunt?"
or "Hey cuntface, wanna go for a beer later?"
> The word cunt is only insulting to Americans and over zealous feminists who don't realise its beauty.

It has almost replaced the word 'mate', often used in Australia to refer to people in a conversation when they can't be bothered trying to remember your name.
Sick Aussie Cunt: Sup cunt?
American feminist: I find that insulting
Sick Aussie Cunt: Piss off

Sick Aussie Cunt 1: Sup cunt?
Sick Aussie Cunt 2: Nothing much, cunt.

4:25 AM

Has anyone here used the RAM spots 7,8,9 on a Dell R710?
When in use, they drop the RAM speed from 1333 to 800Mhz
I'm wondering how terrible that really is
I want to bump this R710 up but it will mean activating those last 6 shitty DIMMs

Bob
@MarkHenderson wtf
that's by design?
@MarkHenderson Wait. 800 MHz?
That's DDR3-1600 (well, really MT/s... MHz would be much higher)
Or do you actually mean DDR3-800, which I didn't know existed until today?

@MarkHenderson Wassup?
R710... Nehalem/Westmere...
how much RAM is in the machine?

4:55 AM
@ewwhite Currently 96GB, 12x8GB
I wanna put another 6x 8GB in it
@Bob Yeah apparently the last DIMMs are only accessible via a serial expander

You want to fill all the slots.

@ewwhite Basically yeah

Bob
Ouch.

I have the ram left over from an upgrade earlier in the week
Seems like a waste to have it sit around
@Bob DDR3-800 is my guess
My memory is fuzzy, but I know that the last three DIMMs in each bank will fuck your shit up

That's correct.

4:58 AM
It's not exactly a high performant server. Dual quad core, and only runs a bunch of dev VMs
But if it's going to be really bad then...

Some DIMM installation guidelines are summarized below:
For servers with eighteen (18) memory slots:
There are three (3) channels per processor; six (6) channels per server
There are three (3) DIMM slots for each memory channel; eighteen (18) total slots Memory channel 1 consists of the three (3) DIMMs that are closest to the processor Memory channel 3 consists of the three (3) DIMMs that are furthest from the processor
DIMM slots that are white should be populated first
Do not mix Unbuffered memory (UDIMMs) with Registered memory (RDIMMs)
If you load a Memory channel completely, everything drops to 800MHz
which is fine... if you need the RAM

It's almost half the speed though
1333 down to 800
I might try it and see how it goes

then don't load the DIMMs.
it's fine.
but it's just a reminder that there are fast and slower configurations with these server lines

@ewwhite Yes there are
I have a maintenance window for that host on MOnday so I'll pop it in and see if anyone complains
That can be my litmus test
Bah I just saw it's an E5530 which apparently only runs at 1066 anyway
1066 to 800 is worth it for the extra 48GB

good morning comms room
@ewwhite DDR4 to the rescue!

5:13 AM
Well now I'm pissed off
I've just been told that Cisco will not renew the smartnet on our 5505's
Because it's discontinued
Is that normal?

that's pretty standard that discontinued stuff does not get updates, isn't it? It's not just cisco?

@MichelZ I thought Cisco were better than that. Basically if you're willing to give them money they will take it
When Iw as at Cisco in '03 I used to deal with stuff from the mid 90's that was still under contract

@MarkHenderson maybe you do not offer enough money?

@MichelZ Perhaps

@MarkHenderson Everyone is stressing.

5:24 AM
@Wesley There are plenty of things to stress about

@MarkHenderson Like not dropping my macbook in the toilet.

No joke if my wife and I ever build a house we're gunna put a doomsday-prepper style shelter in a basement

@MarkHenderson i'd be down with that. I want to be more capable of living off the grid.
Some solar.
Some raised bed gardens
More ability to handle myself in the wilderness.
Then again I've been watching Walking Dead soooo...

@Wesley I was gunna say ;)
We'd also like to have a second property out in the bush
For holidays and apocalypses
Or Ebola or whatever

@MarkHenderson Well you and I live in great localities for solar power.

5:26 AM
@Wesley Yes we do

Except Australia is apparently trying to kill solar from what I heard concerning the current administration

Our solar installer is coming for a final site inspection tomorrow
@Wesley Yeah fuckwit Tony

Arizona had some chucklefucks here who tried to paint all sorts of deregulation fear about how people selling solar power back to the big power company was going to cause a crisis.

NSW already has pathetic feed-in tarrifs (5c/kwh)
And now they want to take away our tax credits on purchase

@MarkHenderson Get in before they do.

5:27 AM
@Wesley Yeah yeah we went through that here too
@Wesley Already have

@MarkHenderson What output are you looking at putting on your house?
ONE POINT TWENTY-ONE JIGGA-BUTTS!!

@Wesley My friend ordered a 3kw system back in '10 and the day after he signed the papers for the tax credits, they announced that the feed-in tarrifs would drop from 60c/kwh to 15c/kwh
So he made it through by the skin of his teeth
(they grandfathered people on old plans)

Holy kilowatts

@Wesley We're getting 4.75kw system
One inverter, two inputs, as we will have some panels obstructed by a tree that we havent removed yet

@MarkHenderson Woow. that's pretty good

5:29 AM
So one string of 9 panels and one of 10

What's the estimated lifespan of your system?

@Wesley Inverter has 10 year warranty, panels have 25 years

fucking sun
all electrical things should power themselves
the scientist are just not smart enough
:D

@MichelZ Fuckin aye

@MichelZ Magnets! How do they work!
I wonder how much power this house uses.

5:35 AM
Guy upstairs from me today took a Telsa Model S for a promo test drive today

With two A/C units the size of a volkswagen, probably a lot.

But they're $90,000 here

@MarkHenderson We have a lot of Teslas here. Not much cheaper.

@Wesley If they are 3-phase then perhaps less than you think

or we need something to power devices with dumb people's thoughts

5:36 AM
@Wesley I thought they were about $50k
I'd totally buy one at 50k

that would give us enough energy until mankind dies

@MichelZ Dumb fusion

@MarkHenderson I think you can have cheaper one's. depends on the model and the extras

Quick! Feed another Texan (/queenslander) into the fusion chamber!

:)

Bob
5:37 AM
@MarkHenderson by guy upstairs, do you mean Dave? :P

Shit I think I forgot to pay quarterly taxes on my LLC
For the second time this year.

@Bob I do

Dammit.

I almost always mean dave :p

lol @Wesley

5:37 AM
@MarkHenderson So that guy you were blowing yesterday. Dave?

yes, I'm out of the lab. In the big smoke meeting with the gummn't. Then a @TeslaMotors Test drive. http://t.co/U5rBUf6B7W
@Wesley Fuckin aye
Him and his toned features

@MarkHenderson He tweeted back to you!
Like @'d you and everything!

@Wesley He always tweets back to me

I bet you'll never wash your twat again!

Sometimes I meet him in the lift and give him a tugjob
And one time when our shitters on our floor were clogged up I went up to his floor to take a dump and who was coming in as I was washing my hands?
Of course I pretended to leave and then hung around and listened to him drop a few turds and recorded it for propserity

5:40 AM
@MarkHenderson you should totally poop on his desk

@MichelZ He has a mailbag segment. I should poop in a box and leave it outside his office
Except he would probably know who it was from

@MarkHenderson "He's smelling my poop! SQUEEEEE!!!"

@MarkHenderson is he a poop-sniffer?

@MarkHenderson By now your reputation precedes you eh?
I think we're all a bunch of scat-fetish weirdos trying to figure out how safe we are among each other.

@Wesley haha I have left him "gifts" in the past

5:41 AM
You could say that were... sniffing each other out.
@MarkHenderson Upper decker?
Shit in a sock and beat him with it when he was taking the stairs?

this is so fucked up
I really don't want to meet you guys in real life
2
:D

@Wesley lol no
But i will often see him complaining about somehting on twitter and I'll drop it up to him
Floppy drive
RAM
Gender changer

morning

morning @JennyD

5:52 AM
@MarkHenderson Upper deck that, big boy.

@Wesley I would such this toilet.

@JennyD So toilet. Such porcelain.

@Wesley Thats a massive toilet
How big must their ass be?

in spite of all this talk, I am extraordinarily fastidious with bathroom cleanliness. I carpet bomb my toilet with bleach, sprays, cleaners...
@MarkHenderson You've got to have a big toilet to prevent splash damage.

@Wesley My wife would love you then

5:54 AM
@MarkHenderson I would love your wife too... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Levi is currently about a Level 2 pee-er but he's taking Level 8 challenges
Like peeing with no hands

@MarkHenderson Trying to write his name on the wall, eh?

And peeing with the lights out
Needless to say he is sick of having to clean up his own piss off the floor

@MarkHenderson Hope it learns him somethin'

"OMG DAD WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS?"
"Because you thought you could pee without lifting the lid"
"ITS NOT FAIIIIRRR"

5:56 AM
And by somethin' I mean open a window and pee out of it.
@MarkHenderson What, does he think he has fourth dimension urine?

@Wesley The grass on one side of the big tree in our back yard grows much, much, much faster and stronger than the other side, because it's his favourite side to pee on

Schrodingers bladder

@Wesley He was in a hurry apparently

@MarkHenderson Are you actually serious? :D

@Wesley Yes

5:57 AM
lol'ing so hard

The grass on one side of the tree will be at about 30cm and on the other side maybe 50+
(either way I need to mow my lawn)
