Place I work at is looking for Linux admins :) if anyone is looking for a job :D ... telecommuting gig

CentOS, ruby/chef stuff; shared hosting and cpanel...

@HrvojeŠpoljar Oh god no...
cPanel still gives me nightmares

hehe :) I've never seen it really... but word is people/customers use it :)

Not us. When we see cPanel we pull out the crosses, garlic and hard drive demagnetizers.

Normally "nuke it from orbit" is just a figure of speech. Not with cPanel, though.

1:03 AM
@HrvojeŠpoljar oh really?

is that like really really or :)

not sure
I'm a consultant, but not looking too hard for work

hehe; me neither... I'm happy with gig; I get to work from home; ppl are nice... not very elite but nice :) and it pays the bills :D if you're looking for telecommuting gig check it out 5ops.com/join-our-team

slack dead?
the investments killed it I guess

Hello
Does anyone have an invite for Inbox?

heh, and status.slack.com says everything is ok. Guess who needs to fix their ops/monitoring :)

@DennisKaarsemaker seems ok for me

server error for me too

Server Error

There was a problem completing your request. We're looking in to it. Sorry :(

If this issue persists, you might want to check our Status site: https://status.slack.com.
yay, stupid developers
removing cookies works
ah, nope. that just makes / work. Trying to sign in on the comms room makes the 500 come back
also, they consider downtime for maintenance not downtime...

8:30 AM
Interesting - I'm there now

Bob
9:13 AM
o.O
@MarkHenderson I just discovered TPG's bundled modems support IPv6. They even advertise that.

9:53 AM
@Bob did you get an invite to slack yet ?

Bob
@Iain ...am I supposed to know what it is? o.O

I guess that's a no then
@bob what's your email
or email me at the address in my profile

Bob
Huh. Looks interesting. Not sure I'd actually find a use for it.

We've set up an alternative comms room there
come see what it's like

Bob
@Iain Cool, I'll do that. Thanks.

Alright, my normal RAID-5 caveats stand here. Pretty much every RAID level other than 0 is better than a single parity RAID, until RAID goes away. If you care about your data and speed, go with RAID-10. If you're cheap, go with RAID-6. If you're cheap and you're on antique hardware, or if you just […]

Oh @MichaelKjörling , we don't use the Comms Room anymore.

@ewwhite Bummer. For not being used it looks reasonably active, though. ;)

@MichaelKjörling Nah... conversation has moved elsewhere.

@ewwhite Any pointers? :)

maybe...

As for my question on the main site, I'm not as concerned about a single duff sector as the fact that ZFS doesn't appear to be acting to correct the error. I could easily have the drive replaced by Tuesday if necessary, but that wouldn't help very much in the future.
I'd rather have ZFS correct the error and then if the drive keeps developing bad sectors replace it, than replace it and not understand why ZFS didn't report or correct the error to begin with.

@Skyhawk have you had an invite to slack yet ?

@Iain Funny, I just set up a Slack account to see if I wanted to use it with my team. But no, not in this context.

we have an alternate comms room, I'll inite you if you give me an email address. Post here & delete or email me from my sf profile
@Wesley hopefully @Skyhawk will join us on sack soon

Kewl. In that case, I'm out! Looks like everything is good and dead here. :)
Hope to see you there @Skyhawk

@Skyhawk have yo been back on a cycle since you know what ?
got it

10:30 PM
@Iain A few times now. Once a few months after the accident.

what tyres did you choose ?

@Iain Rode 33 miles with two 20-year-old friends. (I'd wanted to do 50 miles but they'd been drinking the night before and couldn't keep up.) Mentioned it to my physical therapist. She said to cut it out.

to cut what out ?

@Iain So I've snuck in a short ride or two since then, but I really won't be free of restrictions for another 2 weeks or so. Had surgery on 10/3.
@Iain To stop cycling until I was done with PT

ouch

10:33 PM
@Iain But, sometimes a bike is just too useful. Eight days ago I put one in the back of my airplane before flying out to the islands for the annual inspection.
@Iain It saved me some walking, anyway.

I'm just starting to wind down. Till next Feb/March or so Ill just take it easy in Zone2/lower Zone 3
