@ewwhite Sorry brother, it was buffalo chicken legs. You understand, I'm sure.

@MDMarra That can't possibly compete with the Weapons of Ass Destruction.

Q: MSSQL Login issues

Nicholas SzentirmayI'm running a program that creates forms and posts it on to my website. The program works fine untill I enable DB access to upload entries. Hi Max I am creating an e-mail form with auto responder and darabase access. I'm running Inline image 1 Inline image 2 The program successfully uploads...

Um...

@mdmarra that's racist!!!

Someone literally copy/pasted a support ticket and didn't bother to check formatting lol

@ewwhite No! It's racist that a white guy can't eat some chicken and talk to a black guy about it without being called racists, you racists!

12:04 AM
@NathanC We're not even going to bother with "close" on that one.

Nuke it from orbit?

It's the only way to be sure.

wtf everyone has new avatars

I don't!
:p

@MichaelHampton is a fucked up ninja turtle. @JoelESalas is a chihuahua (racially fitting)

12:05 AM
Yes, everyone changed their avatar to make the chat room look busier and more confusing. But mostly more confusing.

nor I

@WesleyDavid is @RyanRies
Shit got so weird here

Still racist.

@ewwhite if this is a ten user site, can we just start over?
:)

@MDMarra Nuke ALL the VMs!

12:11 AM
@MDMarra So if I get the rep to 4k, you'll make it 10k
this will only end when I invite you to break into Prince's house with Ke$ha

@mdmarra as long as you don't lose anything. I have exchange running.

inb4 "oops"

@mdmarra we are driving in the new VW

@ewwhite cross-forest trust, mailbox move, done
New VW huh. What'd you end up buying her that doesn't need its oil changed?

We got the top of the line VW Tiguan SEL

12:16 AM
bling bling

@MDMarra For a moment there I thought you were referring to SF, not your site under configuration.

Yeah. Expensive. Ish.

@FalconMomot haha nope

No cross forest migration.

That was, what, a week's pay for you?

12:18 AM
The car? Oh.. A month's pay.
Her car, though. So she's paying.

@ewwhite sigh but I can control the condition of a new forest. I don't know what crazy voodoo you did in this current forest though :(

I don't know what i did

:(
The other option is to move DHCP to a member server and replace both DCs

We can do that.
Driving with her. She leaves the car in gear!!! And doesn't shift to Park when waiting at drive-thru windows, bank lines, etc.

@ewwhite Is this a manual or auto?

12:24 AM
I don't put the car in park when I'm pulled over by the cops.

Auto. We are Americans!

@ewwhite I just press the clutch down and keep it in first. I'm a bad person. =(
@ewwhite And I think that's pretty much normal. Wether or not it's up to Motor Trend Anal Drivers of the Year is debatable, but in an auto, just keep it in gear if you're going to be moving forward in 30 seconds. =)
OH NOES @JSCOTT IS HERE!

@WesleyDavid No he is not.

FOGEY ALERT FOGEY ALERT

@WesleyDavid At least you have a real transmission in your car.

12:28 AM
@FalconMomot When I'm driving a manual, anyway. I'm kind of between cars at the moment.

@WesleyDavid And between bicycles as well?

@WesleyDavid At least you admit that cars with an automatic transmission aren't real cars.

Between cars... Between bikes.

@jscott The last bicycle I owned... I was 17 I think, so I guess if half a life is "between bikes" then yes. =P

I want to dump this car badly but sadly....nope

12:37 AM
Dear gawd. Great ribs, terrible website.

Teaching wife about the VW's sport mode

@ewwhite Does it also do that VW thing where you can wind all the windows down using the key in the door locks?

Prolly

12:52 AM
@MichaelHampton It looks like someone just vomited stuff all over the place

Home safely...
Women aren't bad drivers, right?
@MDMarra are you ready to handle some AD work?

Right now?

@ewwhite Depends. Men can also just be as bad...

true...
but I think she accelerates too slowly.

Ha. I drive carefully and my gf is a maniac behind the wheel.
OK, I exaggerate. A bit.

Q: What is Canonical's LTS support policy for EOL software?

blackwindI'm using PHP 5.3 and need to remain on PHP 5.3 for the foreseeable future. Please don't suggest upgrading -- for my setup, it's simply not possible at this stage. I'm currently evaluating which OS to choose for my new server. I'd prefer to use Debian Wheezy (on which I'd leverage apt's pinning ...

@MichaelHampton you ninja

@MichaelHampton Quick sanity-check... if you modify a partition table in fdisk and the partition table is in use... (assume boot drive block device), you need a reboot to see the new partition table
right

@ewwhite Yes, fdisk will print a warning in this case.
Reboot if you see the warning, otherwise just carry on.

coworker is asking.. I'm trying to help him
this is vmware, so I'm spouting off on why I always have a boot VMDK... 36GB or 72GB... then use separate VMDKs for growth partitions

@ewwhite Seems reasonable to me...hell, the installer will even take advantage of it

but you know how I don't do LVM...
It's nice to see my staff practicing on their own Linux systems to try these things.

1:18 AM
I'm not so sure about this LinkedIn thing anymore... I seem to have connections at... Microsoft.. and worse, Oracle!

There was a tricky client situation, and the on-call NOC engineer had a hard time with it. So he went home and spun-up with own VM to try to attack the problem

@ewwhite Those are going to be the good ones.

Gives me hope
@MichaelHampton So it was an LVM setup.. four partitions... on VMware. Client wanted 100GB added

lvextend...

well, VMware used to add to the VMDK.
I think my tech used a rescan to recognize new block device size...
then fdisk

2:10 AM
blargh
does SE have a site for windows reverse engineering?

@JoelESalas I thought we had a dupe target for that question, but I can't find it.

@MichaelHampton "hurr durr my amazons" ?
Seriously, why do beginners use AWS

it's probably the hardest platform to target

@MichaelHampton Our god is an awesome god.
though... I'm not certain I'm allowed to publicly ask the question I need to ask.
aah well.

2:12 AM
@JoelESalas Why do beginners attempt to do anything?

@FalconMomot Man up

@FalconMomot It's the internet, nobody knows who you're pentesting.

:)
I am fairly certain that after a couple more months of this project my team will be the 4 most knowledgeable people about memory allocation on the planet.

Hmm, maybe some of you can solve my memory mystery.

@ewwhite It's cheap, buy more.

2:15 AM
@MichaelHampton I'm just saying, a VM on your laptop running Ubuntu is a much more sensible way to learn than expensive, hostile AWS
3

New rule: Natural peanut butter tastes terrible. That is all.

@JoelESalas Oh, quite so. Hell, I was an AWS early adopter.

@MichaelHampton I did... went from 96GB to 192GB... Same swapping problem

@ewwhite That's because you're still using AMM

@KevinSoviero er, it tastes like peanuts.

2:16 AM
@MichaelHampton I pinned /dev/shm at 80GB

@ewwhite only if it relates to whether someone blew a buffer

@FalconMomot Perhaps, but it also may suffocate you if you're not careful.

@KevinSoviero as with water. and bees.

@FalconMomot Bees?

You should look into grep/egrep. — Michael Hampton 4 mins ago

2:17 AM
@KevinSoviero Sure. If you are sufficiently careless you could choke on bees and die a terrible, excruciating death.

Of course, my first thought about AWS back in 2007 was "Who the hell would ever use this?"

I think I either need less office scotch, or more.

@FalconMomot Would that actually kill you? Assuming you have average access to medical attention, of course.

@KevinSoviero People choke on things and die all the time.
!!! someone finished off the scotch and put the empty bottle back in the exact same place on my desk that they found it.

@FalconMomot I'm quite enjoying a tender mixture of anti-malarial and a herbal infusion.

2:19 AM
@FalconMomot I bet it was that @FalconMomot guy.

@MichaelHampton Yeah, that guy's a doucheramjet.

@ScottPack We had balvenie 12 year double-wood, once. alas, it is kaput.

@FalconMomot You at work now?

@ScottPack Yeah. mostly slacking and trying to avoid rush hour, which is now over, so I may head home

@FalconMomot Sounds terrible.

2:21 AM
I was reverse engineering before, but these 12 hour days reverse engineering with almost nothing to show for it except one flag tentatively defined in one structure...
it gets draining.

That's why I make sure to do work that doesn't result in spinning wheels or any kind of cultural resistance. Things like Vulnerability Management and Intrusion Detection.

bahahahahahaha
I really don't want to look at the target anymore today
and tomorrow, I have a once-a-quarter 0700 meeting.

@FalconMomot Ok. Now that's terrible.

If it's any solace I'm trying desperately to put words to paper on my research.

2:26 AM
see, I find that easy
I actually enjoy technical writing

I've never been a fan of writing. I'm wondering how many drafts my advisor will take me through.

beating my head against a brick wall trying to figure out the intent of obfuscated code looking for data that might not even exist in it in order to try and meet requirements laid out by someone who apparently didn't know whether they were possible and who quit a few months after writing them, not so much.

How is that different from normal code?

normally you have source tree access or something
I have ida.
oh, and the people whose software is being targeted in this specific case aren't exactly amenable to what is going on either.
(got a few RE projects on the go right now)

I've had to deal with far too many uncooperative clients. It's never a good day.

2:31 AM
the client is allowed to contract us to reverse engineer the product, but did not write the product.
that type of engagement is surprisingly common
like, someone hires a security firm to audit some software they are evaluating, over the objections of the licensor
or dragging the licensor kicking and screaming to the audit as a condition of sale on a $20m contract

Messy.

and then we cause out of cycle patches :)
<3 out of cycle patches
people like me enjoy causing them always, but doubly so when the people writing them were uncooperative.
it's revenge. :)

I can relate. :)
There are certain people who provoke rather obscene levels of expectant pleasures when I see their requests come through my queueueueueueueue.
@FalconMomot Have you ever considered checking out Sec.SE? It seems like you might find some of the content interesting.
Honestly, I try to avoid all that programming gobbeldy gook, but there does end up being a fair bit of it.

@ScottPack I have a little rep there. However, mainly I'd be repeating myself ad nauseam. The stuff around here is different enough from work that it doesn't feel like work.

2:43 AM
@FalconMomot I can buy that. It's somewhat similar for me. I feel like I can end up being much more relaxed and off-the-cuff when I give an answer on SF.

That too.

think my TV is dying D:

@Cole Your butt.

I'll have to call Samsung tomorrow

well, off to expense more booze and go to bed.

2:46 AM
I seriously need to call either AT&T or TimeWarner. I need to get some kind of Internets turned on as close to Aug 1st as possible.

AT&T blows. So does Time Warner, but not nearly as bad as AT&T.

@FalconMomot Lucky you. I'm trying to force myself to churn out another section before my battery runs out.
@MichaelHampton That's pretty much my feelings on the matter.
They're also the only two proper ISPs at the new house.

@tombull89 strangely enough I was just randomly reading @GraceNote's meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/182031/… but it's unlikely it will come to that. More likely is other people will take over from the people that fall away but they won't hang around for so long (as we see already) because there is too much shit to wade through.

8:18 AM
why, of all stackexchange sites, would you come to SF if you want people to take your "feeling" into account

@LucasKauffman That's pretty random

@Iain it was about the comment of @RobM
plus the OP's comments and remarks were not valid anyway

Q: expect tool that fit for WIN XP

yairI searching for expect version that fit for WIN XP I already installed tcl version - Tcl8.5.14 , but I can’t find expect version that fit for tcl8.5.14 Please advice from where I can download expect version for WIN XP ? And how to installed the expect in tcl ENV thanks

Should I be glad I don't know what TCL is?

@tombull89 Probably.
Tcl (originally from Tool Command Language, but conventionally spelled "Tcl" rather than "TCL"; pronounced as "" or "tee-see-ell") is a scripting language created by John Ousterhout. Originally "born out of frustration", according to the author, with programmers devising their own languages intended to be embedded into applications, Tcl gained acceptance on its own. It is commonly used for rapid prototyping, scripted applications, GUIs and testing. Tcl is used on embedded systems platforms, both in its full form and in several other small-footprint versions. The combination of Tcl and ...

Older than me. Nice.

Expect is vaguely useful, but nasty to use.
PyExpect is a far nicer way to do it.
@tombull89 That's not difficult.
I'm older than you.

@TomO'Connor Yes, but you're not a programming language.
Are you?

10:04 AM
@tombull89 I might be!
I wouldn't know.
Turns out, I am!
TOM was an object-oriented programming language developed in the 1990s that built on the lessons learned from Objective-C. The main purpose of TOM was to allow for "unplanned reuse" of code via a well-developed extension mechanism. This concept was introduced seemingly by accident in Objective-C and later proved to be of wide use, and was applied aggressively in TOM. The primary changes in TOM are the addition of multiple inheritance, tuples as a first-class part of the language, cleaner syntax, free of the C requirements for header files and pre-compiler commands, and the ability to us...
Tom is a programming language particularly well-suited for programming various transformations on tree structures and XML based documents. Tom is a language extension which adds new matching primitives to C and Java as well as support for rewrite rules systems. The rules can be controlled using a strategy language. Tom is good for: * programming by pattern matching * developing compilers and DSL * transforming XML documents * implementing rule based systems * describing algebraic transformations External links * [http://tom.loria.fr/ Tom language website] * [http://gforge.inria.fr/pro...

@Iain And it's gone.

@TomO'Connor cheers

@Iain I've locked it as Historically Significant.. I think we could do that a lot more, actually.

@TomO'Connor I used to lock/protect stuff as and when I found them. Don't forget to select permanent - I did a few times before I realised you had to do so even on historical stuff
I even made the front page of HN because I forgot to make one permanent.

@Iain Oops. Yeah.

Where's the "You're too stupid to use a computer" option: serverfault.com/questions/522200/…

DO NOT drop into a chat room to ask a question and DO NOT ping the currently-active users.

Especially not a moderator.

I know nothing about Postgres so your (and mine) time is wasted.

Our topic states: "This is NOT a place for 'Live Support', ask on the main site.".

okies..

But if it's about how to structure a query, go visit dba.stackexchange.com
if it's about how to use it in code, go visit stackoverflow.com
if it's about how to do something with Postgres server, scaling, replication, then ServerFault is on topic, but only if you're using it in a professional context.

@tombull89 WTF?
@TheUnusual I asked you nicely to ask a question on the main site.
Now you're still not getting the picture.
I do actually know how to answer your question, but until you ask it on the main site, I won't.

also, for reference, googling "ident authentication failed" found me this on the first page

I am able to use pgAdminIII successfully (i.e. connect/log on), however when I try to login to the server using the same username/pwd on the command line (using psql), I get the error: psql: FATAL: Ident authentication failed ...

Which is exactly the same problem.
Which historically, probably belongs on SF, but that's not the point.

@TomO'Connor sorry for the disturbance ... i came across all those things .,,

Well, that'd explain why the internet feels sticky today.
