What do you guys think of this answer? He's promoting his own plugin... graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/review/late-answers/60654

@johnp with the disclosure, that should be fine, provided that the answer actually answers the question, I guess?

Yeah I wasn't sure really... I'll see what the mods think

@PieBie thanks. I don't know what sort of volume I should set as the threshold but there does seem to be a vague consensus already

@tripleee You've probably noticed, but I always see a rise in spam at this hour on this stack
about 3 or so are posted around the same time

yeah, we see that network-wide, too ... it's been correlated with business hours in India

4:11 AM
oh, interesting
are there digital forensics going on behind the scenes with spam tracing? lol

4:25 AM
@johnp not sure what that means, we have some charts over in Metasmoke which reveal the cycle quite clearly
I don't think anyone is doing any hosting analysis on the pharma spammer, they seem to have that pretty well covered, their IP addresses are all over the place so there is no single authority to complain to
I posted an analysis of the TRAINING IN CHENNAI spammer on Stack Overflow a year ago or two on Meta.SO

5:23 AM
@johnp I know at one point that Undo, one of the heads of the project, strayed into the deep web and applied to be a spammer in the name of science

7:05 AM
@tripleee Let's give it another day. Our site doesn't get much traffic, and Meta even less. But I don't think you should expect more than ten to fifteen votes.
A lot of our regulars have stopped showing in the last year
@johnp As long as he discloses his affiliation with the plugin, which he clearly does, it's not against SE regulations. And the plugin clearly does what the OP asked for, so it's a good answer.

ah ok
clever marketing for that guy :3
just caught a decent crow pic at the angle I need
after what felt like days
well actually it was 3 days xD

three days for the perfect pic. I've heard of worse deals ;D

well i wouldn't saw perfect! but with a bit of picking the best of a few pics i might get something reasonable together

lol, always the perfectionist...

i dont like Jackdaws now >:( they're fake crows

7:13 AM
had to Google to know what a jackdaw was. But yes, they do look like crows.

hehe yeah it's subtle but for the sake of symbolism and consistency i needed a crow pic

7:30 AM

that user needs to be deleted, that's the second instance of that

flagged and reported, mods will deal with it

7:49 AM
@PieBie sure, let's sit on this over the weekend

@tripleee good idea

@PieBie reported in Charcoal; gone now

@tripleee is the user also destroyed? This would be an instance where it would be totally justified to destroy the account.

@PieBie this is precisely one of those situations where the user moderation intervenes with mod activity -- we only remove the post as far as I understand
so might want to ping one of the mods about this once they appear here

I'll see if I can get a hold of @Vincent

7:58 AM
I starred the message for now, hope that's not too badly at odds with conventions here
@PieBie less urgent now that the post is gone, I guess?

Cai
Yeh the user still exists

FWIW, if the same user posts again, he is blacklisted in Charcoal now, so we will see it pretty much immediately
(or maybe I should say "it" to avoid gender issues and better reflect this being's status)
here's the corresponding Metasmoke record, which is easier for those who don't have the privileges to view the deleted post directly metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/62583

@Cai that's what we expected. The question is, do mods still get to see the flags after the post was deleted so they can easily follow up and destroy the account too?

@PieBie and if not, should we raise this on meta.se?

personally, I think that might be a good idea. But maybe Charcoal should get in touch with a few mods from around the network, see what they think about that?
I'm not a mod, so I really can't judge the workload and how that would be affected

Cai
8:06 AM
@PieBie no, once the post is deleted all the flags are cleared so mods don't see it unless they go manually look through recent flags/deletions

that's what Ryan was saying wasn't it? In that case, I think it's worth following up

Cai
Yeh I think that was his main issue
it's not really a smoke detector issue though, that's what happens when anyone flags spam/rude

@Cai I guess that one already covers this issue. I had already upvoted it, of course ...

Cai
I think its something that needs addressing but its not exactly a new issue

@Cai true. I'm not blaming smoke detector or charcoal in any way. though by the nature of their work, they'll touch this issue more often.

Cai
8:11 AM
the numbers @ArtOfCode had on repeat spam users could be useful in bringing it up
@PieBie true

but since there's already a post on Meta.se there's not much else we can do
I agree with Cai that charcoal could weigh in on the debate with some numbers though

8:27 AM
hey @Cai: can you see how many spam flags this one got? graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/q/87783/41100

Cai
No, only mods can see spam flags

damn. I was hoping to see if my theory was correct that every spam flag is also a downvote

Cai
@PieBie yeh I'm pretty certain it is

hmm, tripleee seems to think it isn't
2 days ago, by tripleee
I think the first spam flag produces a downvote also but after that, it doesn't seem to

Q: Who downvotes a post when we flag a post a spam?

KedarnathRecently I reviewed a post on the Hinduism site and found that it is actually spam. When I flag it as spam, it showed a -1 vote to the post. This usually happens whenever you flag a post as spam, it gets -1 vote (one vote down). At first I thought that -1 vote might be given by Community ♦, but...

8:34 AM
@Cai thanks, that clarifies my understanding

Cai
> Each flag carries an implicit downvote for calculating the post’s score; it does not affect the caster’s reputation, however.

1 hour later…
9:48 AM
@Pie Destroyed cc @tripleee and @johnp

hey @Vincent, a good day to you! and thanks for destroying that account. Still can't fathom why anyone would do that... =|

@Vincent thanks
@PieBie there's a fair amount of trolling and rage quits -- the posts which don't cross the Smoke Detector autoflagging threshold are mainly this category

I get that people start trolling. Or even when they get mad if they don't get the answer theywant. But stating bluntly to kill yourself to get rid of a design problem... djeesh

@PieBie that's the reaction they're after, isn't it

I really couldn't tell you what they're after. Well, the trolls have been banished back to their cave, so all's well in GDSE-land for now :D

10:10 AM
@PieBie trolls are everywhere

Ai, that be the sad truth

10:58 AM
Within GD (latest 1400 spam reports), I found 36 accounts which had more than one spam post in Metasmoke. About half of them are still active, though many have (unregistered) in grey on their profile. At least one seems completely legit, and one has clear spam indicators in the profile. It could be that my query captured some false postives, of course - I'll still look into that. — tripleee 27 secs ago
graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/users/82616/iteriabittem1978 is pretty clearly a spammer with two hits already

Cai
@tripleee They have a SU account too

11:29 AM
@tripleee destroyed. Would it be an idea to keep these mentions in the Spam Blot?

^^ agree

Ping me there all you want, but I'd really like to keep the spam handling separate from regular chat.

12:36 PM
@Cai :P

@Vincent you mean spam-related investigations? sure

Cai
@joojaa sorry to be pedantic lol
@tripleee think Vincent just means any general spam-related chat really

@Cai agreed then, I'll ping from there if I have something which might merit mod attention

@Cai yeah if i send red to a back and white printer it print just as gray, most normal people would say its not printing the color. But yeah your right it is just failing very hard,

Cai
@joojaa sure, I agree with you I was just being silly :)
@Vincent you need to join the room to be pingable in there no? Or can mods be pinged regardless?

12:43 PM
@Cai mods can be pinged from any room

Cai
@tripleee ah ok, good to know

O_O

that is the second time today I'll use these words:
What in the actual hell...

hola peeps!

Cai

12:59 PM
Can any mods move this huge conversation to a chat room? @Vincent / @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ people are getting enthusiastic about discussing vegetarian diets in the comments... graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/87572/…

Cai
@Luciano lol @ trying to send everyone to vegetarianism.stackexchange.com
but yeh that should be moved to chat

:D
the discussion is not even about design, I thought V.SE would be more appropriated

Cai
did you not get the auto "move this discussion to chat" link? that should show up when there's that many comments

Have you noticed illustrator 2017.0.2 have a bug regardincorner rounding

@Cai I didn't, hence my confusion

1:15 PM
@Luciano completed

@Cai You need to have been in a room the last month (I believe?) to be pingable. I have been in the room just now ;)
@tripleee Thanks!

Cai
@Vincent That's what I thought (although I thought it was a week?)

could be. I'm just guessing here
I don't think I've ever been away from the 'Spot for more than a week :P
@Pie I think that's with all badges. You get them and you keep 'em even if the circumstance that gave it to you is reversed

hurray!

So... game the system all you want ;)

1:25 PM
lol

@PieBie thanks, remedied

;)

I know I tend to be blunt. I'm Dutch.

@Vincent yeah, I don't have any issues with that. But best to err on the side of caution.
Did you have more teaching to do this morning?

No, just sleeping in ;)

1:31 PM
ha! Hope you enjoyed

kind of. I need a few days off, but I still have things to do...

I know how that feels. Never ending to do list is never ending...

that. And I feel too much for my customers to just let it lie

your customers are lucky to have you

thanks, Dark Lord :)

1:42 PM
greetings and happy friday

you too! Heard you are having a more fitting desk recently?

fitting desk??
you mean adjustable desk?
if that is the case this is the one I got, business edition.

yeah, that's what I meant
does it kind of help?

ya not bad, just depends on what my discs tell me what they will and wont do.

keep on listening to your discs then. Not the Compact ones, that is.

1:47 PM
har har har, ya. I have to do training on my back the next 12 weeks twice a week

any surgery in the planning?

suppose to come back and look at that after training

ah good

2:27 PM
I wish you all well for the weekend

same to you Vincent!
