Q: creating a spiral pattern with a box in it on adobe illustrator

Sumann I would like to achieved= the pattern which i had shown you above with the help of adobe illustrator.Although,I had tried 3d extrude and bevel option technique but could not achieve exactly.Right now i am not concerned about coloring part,i just want that the exact shape.

2:08 PM
morning @Darth_Vader

sup cap'n

trying to keep some complicated PHP / HTML in order with quotes / apostrophes. Can't seem to do so or at least Sublime doesn't think I am cause its coloring a variable in Red like its an error
<a onclick=\"ga('send', 'event', 'Dealer Page', 'Lead Generated', '" . $row['company'] . "');\" href="http://'.$row['website'].'">'.$row['website'].'</a>
'company' is showing up as red

2:24 PM
think I may have gotten it:
echo '<p>'.$row['company'].'</br>'.$row['telephone'].'</br><a onclick="ga(\'send\', \'event\', \'Dealer Page\', \'Lead Generated\',' . $row['company'] . '"\' ) href="http://'.$row['website'].'">'.$row['website'].'</a></p>';
elegant right? lol

ya.. just thinking the same thing, lol
that would drive me crazy

how would you have handled it?

id have to see the whole file to see what you were doing

if ($stmt->rowCount() > 0) {
    while($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) {
        if (isset($row['website']) && !empty($row['website'])) { // if a website is set
            echo '<p>'.$row['company'].'</br>'.$row['telephone'].'</br><a onclick="ga(\'send\', \'event\', \'Dealer Page\', \'Lead Generated\',' . $row['company'] . '"\' ) href="http://'.$row['website'].'">'.$row['website'].'</a></p>';
        } else { // if a website is not set
            echo '<p>'.$row['company'].'</br>'.$row['telephone'];

something along this
<?php
if ($stmt->rowCount() > 0) {
while($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) {
if (isset($row['website']) && !empty($row['website'])) { // if a website is set
echo '<p>'.$row['company'].'</br>'.$row['telephone'].'</br><a onclick="ga(\'send\', \'event\', \'Dealer Page\', \'Lead Generated\',' . $row['company'] . '"\' ) href="http://'.$row['website'].'">'.$row['website'].'</a></p>';
} else { // if a website is not set ?>
<p><?php $row['company']; ?></br> <?php $row['telephone']; ?>
<?php } ?>
}
but I go from HTML to PHP so I find it easier

2:32 PM
oh so you would just close the PHP when not using variables basically?

well the <a onclick="ga(\'send\', \'event\', \'Dealer Page\', \'Lead Generated\',' woul drive me crazy from all the ``

there's probably some elegant solution by using javascript and getting that onclick off the link entirely but I don't know jack about javascript and find it hard to even comprehend

ya that's true to. I wouldn't declare it right there I would declare it in a different file

all that's doing is sending the info to Google Analytic so I can see when people click off to one of our dealer's websites

coffee time

2:47 PM
well the above broke it entirely
undo, undo!

three different coffees and still nothing that says.. yes

Irish Cream. And by that I mean liquor.

prefer just a nice sippin whiskey then.

3:05 PM
greetings @JohnB

hello

morning @JohnB

so you guys taking it easy this week?

I finished the Netflix show Jessica Jones last night, man was that a dark and twisted show

i watched into the badlands.. still iffy on that show

3:10 PM
I've only watched the first episode of Jessica Jones so far. Hoping it gets better. I found the first episode was kinda crappy from both a cinematography perspective and a story telling perspective

@JohnB plz, no spoilers, we're only at the second ep ;)
and hi all!

@Vincent sup!
what is jessica jones about?

some work. not too much, not enough :)
you?
ready for the turkfest?

@Darth_Vader Marvel show, she's a non-mainstream heroine

@Ryan hm, I liked it for both those reasons. Although the cinmeatogrpahy is a bit heavy-handed at times

3:11 PM
@Ryan things pick one once the villain does villain stuff

lol

thoughts on orange is black?

I liked the first two seasons but never got in to the third

@Vincent I felt the flashbacks were poorly done so I didn't and still am not sure if she's got some mental psychic like powers or what that deal is. The cut away when she "jumped" up to the balcony was strange. And then the weirdest part of all to me was the scene of her laying in bed and they chose to show her vertically instead of horizontally

3:14 PM
Loved the first season, need to pick up the second

its interesting that I can't find a single review of AutoDesk Sketchbook being used with the Pencil
(and they really piss me off using the name Pencil. Its not exactly an easy thing to search for)

@Ryan heh, I liked the flashbacks. They were obvious because of Kilgrave's purple colour scheme
I'm kind of concerned that they tried to use Golden Ratio screen divisions a bit too much

3:30 PM
Hey @Scott have you ever used Astropad?

4:21 PM
@Ryan yes. It works. :)

@Scott thanks! Had never heard of it before. Makes it even more tempting to buy an iPad Pro w/ Pencil. Though according to their website it works on Pro with Pencil but hasn't been optimized yet

4:41 PM
Well Astro pad is kind of like having an external floating monitor. Or a wireless cintiq to a degree.
You still need Photoshop running on a computer somewhere else and Astropad is just a monitor for it.
It does work really well though. zero lag here.

You're not on the pro yet are you? Just air?

Yeah. I've got a rev1 iPadAir
and a rev1 iPad3.. and a rev1 iPad 1

I tried out Pencil at an Apple Store over the weekend and felt like a kid. Really nice for sketching out ideas so looking to see if I can justify it

The iPadAir works really well with it though. i haven't really tried it on theother iPads.

I probably can't being that I barely do any freelance, but I can daydream and pretend itll help me land more clients haha

4:43 PM
well.. at least that's what you tell the IRS :)
I woudl think the iPadPro itself handles things better than Astropad and a computer.
Astropad is really just an add-on for things you already have.
Where I see Astropad really being helpful is in a meeting down the hall.. you can use an iPad to display and edit stuff in Photoshop rather than needing a laptop or something.
it is only $25 so it kind of fits that price point. It's not the be-all-end all. But it is pretty cool.

hmm yeah now if only the Pro wasn't $1,000 before the Pencil

I'm excited abotu force touch.. that's the 1 thing I've always missed in tablets. Just not convinced enough yet to spend the big bucks it'll take to find out if it sucks or not :)

Not sure what Force Touch is.

pressure sensitivity on the iPad/iPhone screen
it knows the "force" of your "touch"

oh. Pencil was decent but kind of limited compared to a Wacom. Really terrific for sketching and drawing but for shading, coloring or masking I'd then use the Intuous still
but I've got a work trip every month for the next 6 months and don't own a tablet

4:52 PM
Pencil the app or the stylus :) I've tried them both... so far.. I haven't found anything for the iPad that really makes me want to use it for sketching.. but that's just me.

that alone could justify buying one

yeah for work travelling.. I'd really be looking at the iPad Pro
Much better than a laptop and case :)

I'm bad at drawing but working to improve because I've started adding hand-drawn frame by frame animations to some of the videos I've done and enjoy doing that a lot
You been working on anything interesting?

I just tend to always fall back to paper and pen... then scan, trace or redraw.
nope.. same old same old.
October was busy here. Looking forward to thsi slow week due tot eh holiday.

Yeah can't wait to have a few days off

4:57 PM
I've realized that my clients have been spoiled. I'm too quick to turn things around. My deadlines have gotten a bit silly at times. I need to start pushing things out a bit further and get people used to longer turnaround times.

haha good plan
Any time at my last job that I would actually be busy and not able to return something very fast the sales team would give me shit like I was supposed to stop what I was doing to get their proposal done. That didn't go well for them

:) I just tend to forget that just because I don't have a lot going on TODAY.. it doesn't mean I should return a project TODAY. it's sometimes best to hold onto it for a couple days then return it.

thats what I'm not telling myself about text messages with people. I've always got my phone with me so always find it proper to reply immediately. Have to tell myself to let it sit a while

yeah I'm good with teh phone.. never answer before 9am or after 6pm unless it's personal... and never reply to emails unless it's between 9 and 6 :)

I don't have phone or work tied to anything outside the office. But texts or even pings on here I have to remind myself not to deal with sometimes
Not that I don't like moderating when I'm trying to relax at 11pm but yeah phone gets that blue blinking light just taunting me

5:06 PM
so... I've been tryign to call the IRS for over a month now... how silly is it that taxpayers can't actually get ahold of anyone there?

uh.... honestly? About as silly as the idea of calling the IRS :\

nah gotta call. They aren't crediting a payment I made.

use to know someone that worked for IRS but she left. If she was still with them I'd give you her contact

I'm amazed that no matter when you call.. no matter what maze of menu items you select... EVERY call ends in a recording stating "Due to a high volume of calls we are unable to assist you at this time. please try again later."

maybe could find an employee on LinkedIn or something

5:08 PM
I even tried the local IRS office, but they don't even answer the phone and just give you a recording stating they aren't going to answer the phone.
anyway.. I just find it horribl that it's not possible to contact the IRS.

I find it horrible that I've got to pretend to do work for another 5 hours today :\

ahh I miss having a job.. sitting there all day.. doing essentially nothing and getting paid :)

5:25 PM
.. of course.. I have had entire weekdays where I do nothing more than play Rise of the Tomb Raider :) So it's a trade off :)

I just saw a commercial for that yesterday for first time. It looks really good

It is. The XBox sucks though. I'll probably get the PS4 version (which doesn't come out until later next month)

I'm waiting on Overwatch but starting to doubt I'll ever get into it

never heard of it.. but "Team based" means I won't bother trying it :)
oh and it's also FPS.. which I dont' really like.

yeah I'm not big on FPS but since its Blizzard I'd give it a try. But then they released Beta for Windows only

5:33 PM
The artwork is great :)

Oh so you mean you never saw it? You should watch the Theatrical Trailer. It deserves to win awards on its own

The style reminds me of that movie... Titan Fall
yeah I just watched :)

Its disappointing that it has almost nothing to do with the story.
Because there is no story lol

I'm really jsut waiting for Uncharted 4 :)
Although Tomb Raider has been much better than I expected and it's a good game. I jsut don't like the XBox One. It has a HORRIBLE habbit of flashign static across parts of the screen so the video is NEVER really smooth. Seems to be an issue with the Xbox

Surprised you're not hooked on Fall Out like everyone else I know with a console

5:39 PM
eh.. I tried Fallout 3.. it was okay. But it is FPS afgain.. so I'm not really into it. And Fallout 3 was slooooooooooow.... walk here.. do something for 5 seconds... walk 20 minutes to here.. do something for 10 seconds.. walk 20 minutes to here.. do something for 30 secondss.

Never played any of them.

It's jsut slow the same way Grand Theft Auto can be slow. You spend too much time BETWEEN story points rather than moving the story along.

I tried buying one of them used. Don't remember which. I honestly just found the green text very small and hard to read so never looked at it again

I'm really kind of picky. There's only a handful of games I really like... Uncharted Tomb Raider, Dragon Age, Infamous... I'm more inot 3rd person RPGs than anything else. Alouth every once in a while I throw in a platformer like Rachet & Clank.

I was hooked on Ball Jump on my phone but now I've moved on to Amazing Brick

5:43 PM
never heard of them :)

just more of the same pointless time wasters

yeah the iPhone/Ipad are great for those. Sure makes waiting in line somewhere fly by :)

5:56 PM
sup @scott

hey Matt

trying to build mountains for an illustration is annoying

build mountains? vector or raster?

vector
for a flat illustration Im working on

I went to college in Colorado.. LOTS of mountain drawing there :) Mtns for logos in Colorado are like Peaches to logos in Georgia :)

6:04 PM
trying to figure out how the should end on the left and right for this site
it looks like several people just use ovals

6:19 PM
What's "standard" video resolution?? I know 1080 is 1920x1080, but what is the standard low def size?
640x480?

uh I don't think there is a standard? You mean YouTube or TV?

DVD
Basically... I'm makign a DVD menu at 1920x1080.. but I want to place critical content in the stadnard field of view, jsut in case

Glancing in Adobe Premiere at the Presets.
DV Pal Standard is 720 x 576. DV NTSC Standard is 720 x 480

I'm just doing images.. background, buttons etc.. someone else is actually authoring the video/dvd So I just need to provide assets.
that helps. Thanks Ryan!

Photoshop has them preset as well I believe. Just be careful because Pixel Aspect Ratio isn't just Square Pixel like it would be normally
At least for all the stuff I've done so far though I haven't really noticed any differences.

6:24 PM
HA! Doi! Didn't even think about. Yup.. that was today's blond moment :)

6:45 PM
hey scott you got sec to talk about inner glows illustrator?

6:57 PM
it'll only take a second... never use them :)
I really avoid all the glows shadows, and raster effects. I'm old school. If I need it I make a gradient or gradient mesh with transparency.
but I really try and avoid (soft) transparency in most cases.
depends upon the art and purpose though
no? Yes? Something specific?

trying to build a mountain range from circles and gradients
using the wacom and pen tool are complicated

mountains from circles? hmm.. hills?? :)

yes

not envisioning it really.
ahh

playing around right now

7:10 PM
I'd do Gradient mesh circles

got it
some tweaking is in order
@scott thanks

nice

7:28 PM
now if I could seperate the gradient mesh from the layer

expand?
and why is it tagged 3D o.O

@Ryan option isn't allowed in drop down
no effort.. execute with extreme prejudice

I don't follow why can't you select the <Mesh> right in the Layers panel?

I will sometimes use 2 objects Matt. A flat colored object, then copy, paste in front, and make the mesh. This preserves the original shape as a flat shape in case I need it that way as well.
I really don't want to work today... *sigh... wish that was an option.... I'm beginning to hate holidays due to all the clamoring clients do before them :)

its going to take some tweaks to work as a footer

3 hours later…
10:58 PM
Hey @ZachSaucier finally got a question tailor made for you (I think)
1
Q: How to add a stroke property or animate the fill path of an svg?

pingoI've been using a combination of Illustrator, Sketch, Inkscape, and Peter Collingridge's svg-editor to create and manipulate SVG's, but I've been running into a few issues. I am trying to create a basic logo using text, and when the logo appears on the page I would like to animate the outside bo...
