I only see a benefit in it if you are learning WP or jQuery or PHP or whatever it uses

I saw it once

A site is dependent on a plugin and when you update the core the developer of that plugin loses interest and you know longer have a functional site because that pluging won't work after the core update

Q: Illustrator CS6 - All stroke options in right gradient panel are unusable

So I have a basic 50 pt line selected, go over to the right to open the Gradient panel, but the stroke option - the word stroke and the three boxes next to it - are greyed out and unclickable. I've searched the internet, tried doing different random things in the program (as I am brand new to it)...

If it's a line... then it doesn't have a stroke option. Right? Could it just be disabled because it's a line?

Agreed. But here's a twist: contact a local law enforcement agency (police, FBI, etc) and work with them to do a "sting". I'm pretty strict about coding questions in here but I always get to thinking about how coding can be just like any tool that helps to stitch up a design to what ever format is needed... and therefore coding does have an important relationship with design.
