Had to edit that guys ActionshareLock question... If it made it to SO how it looked when asked it would've been immediately closed. Now it stands a chance!

@Bob My wife's cheap Android has three options: Auto, High, Low. There is no slider.

ugh
I'm trying to remember the name of a sci fi book series
Its an entire culture that is military and wears some kinda mechanised armour, protoganist and writer are female, and the series is a trilogy with (something) and chess pieces as names
ahh
paradox!

Pardon me.. Can anyone tell me if this question would be on-topic here?

Q: Mark render as Photosphere/equirectangular in cycles so Google Photos knows it's a Photosphere

louislvaI have a space scene made in Blender & Cycles, and I have rendered it as a 360(equirectangular) image, and it worked. But when I try to upload it to Google Photos it doesn't know it's a Photosphere. My question is: How do I tell Google Photos that it is 360? Is it some value stored in the image ...

I see you have a tag, but as it has only 11 questions I thought I should check

@gandalf3 I don't think it'll be on-topic here. Perhaps WebApps.SE?

ah, that looks more promising
Thanks

No problem. :)

2:28 AM
So, I just found out something kinda awesome... A USB Battery Pack I got from DX.com is able to power my Raspberry Pi! It's now truly portable!

@CanadianLuke Did it take 6 months arrive?

Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy He's not in Brazil :P
2

Happened twice to me.
I'm trying to figure out if the problem is DX or the mail.
Damn, who am I trying to fool? OF COURSE it's the mail!
Who else takes 8 years to deliver a package? The Brazilian mail, of course!

4:57 AM
I don't know, I think it was 4-6 weeks. It's slow going to Canada, unless you pay for the "express" shipping that is 6-8 weeks....

In india, it never comes.

Love their uh... Motivation? No, that's not it... Definition of express? Yea, that must be it!
Bed time, I'll chat later guys

@CanadianLuke Wait, what? Is that a typo?

I wish...
It's going really slow right now though
I hooked it up with a phone charger battery pack and a USB cable

@CanadianLuke 2am here, and after a 4day holiday 1 day holiday extended into the weekend, I have to go back to work

5:01 AM
my desktop has crashed a lot today

4 hours ahead of me... Got it

G'night folks

@ThatBrazilianGuy dx tracked is usually fast

It's been a few years since I last bought at DX. I always used their free shipping service. It was tracked, and it was pretty fast... until it arrived in Brazil, that is.
After that, it was delivered by the Woody Woodpecker Cartography Corporation

My Pi is running so slow getting updates now... Grrr

5:04 AM
ahh
2
their local delivery contractor is ok

Stuck unpacking wolfram alpha

5:33 AM
erf
looks like I need to do an offline restore
my desktop's crashed about a dozen times today
hopefully this dosen't crash when I make a restore disk T T

@JourneymanGeek Wait... you're waiting until your computer starts to crash to make a restore disk? :P

@MichaelFrank couldn't find the one I made before ;p
Made
now it was working fine yesterday so I'll roll back to 2 days ago and see what happens

Bob
5:54 AM
"The art of diplomacy is saying 'good doggy' until you can find a big enough stick."
@JourneymanGeek o.O what kind of crashes?
@MichaelFrank Wait, you keep restore disks? :P

@Bob apparently something to do with clfs
however I was messing around with a canon driver a few days ago so
rolling back to before it feels like a good idea

Bob
6:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek what on earth is clfs
as usual, google is utterly useless when searching for any filename

common log file system driver
which makes no sense
lots of cargo cult suggestions (run chkdisk, sfc scannow and so on)
Or "Its ram corruption"
plausible but less likely

Bob
@JourneymanGeek event logs?
@JourneymanGeek ...gotta love cargo cult suggestions

@Bob er. I'm in the middle of restoring ;p

Bob
though tbf this isn't something normally touched
botched update aside, perhaps HDD corruption was the cause :\

But I figured the only thing I installed between then and now was canon printer drivers

Bob
6:16 AM
@JourneymanGeek I meant, is CLFS related to event logs? :P

in theory, yes
but should that cause a system to BSOD? ;p

Bob
you tried safe mode, yea?
@JourneymanGeek well, it's a kernel-mode driver... so, yes

er, no ;p
guess I cargo culted too ;p
but I wanted to remove that variable
OH
I also installed that windows system state analyser thing
which MIGHT tie into event logs

6:37 AM
@bob No, I don't keep restore disks.
Also cool! My Windows 10 lockscreen picture was a tree from NZ.

erf
restore is going to take a while
since apparently my 'nearer' second level backup's not up to date
(oops)

1 hour later…
7:51 AM
heh
Turns out my stream's audio output is pretty noisy
I wasn't going to use it as a music player anyway...
also, beats got replaced by some DTS thing
which of course sounds terrible
but you can turn it off

8:29 AM
hm, looks like the noise was being picked up by audio cable
its clear directly plugged in.

9:11 AM
Guess which is the world's largest rubber tire producer?

@RahulBasu LEGO

Yep...

1 hour later…
11:12 AM
@MichaelFrank I've been there :p

11:30 AM
@DavidPostill Lucky!

they do need to make it easier to find information on those lock screen pics
what the....
> Eventually I used chlorine bleach!

@MichaelFrank Yes, indeed. I've been to NZ 6 times and enjoyed every trip. One of my best memories is walking the Milford Track :p

11:47 AM
can we get this question locked?

Q: Run an application only compatible with 32-bit on 64-bit machine

GlennTitle's pretty explanatory. I have an application(Second Life) that isn't compatible with 64-bit windows 7. It says that it is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 but only the 32-bit version of 7. I need to know if it's possible for me to download something to make the application compatible...

@Burgi You mean "protected"? or Something else?

yes
thats what i meant

@Burgi Done. At least 10 rep is now required to add an answer. That should help a little (I saw your comment).

thankies
it came up on 1st post review
its also a poor answer but i'm hesitant to flag as NAA or VLQ as i tend to get them wrong and told off for flagging "wrong answers" :/

lol
if not sure, you can custom flagged
and we rarely "tell off" >_>

11:55 AM
@Burgi lol. I just clicked "delete" as answer was on -1

> declined - flags should not be used to indicate technical inaccuracies, or an altogether wrong answer

ahh
that's different from 'telling off' ._.

its in red!

It is?

yes

11:58 AM
also, I need to take a screenshot when I get exactly 50 more rep.
@Burgi I suppose it might be.
but in cases like this mentioning it on chat helps too ;p

ahh
I've not seen the consumer end of the flag queue in a while

red ink everywhere!

I think that's a "hi vis" orange grey red rather than a "BAD DOG" red

12:00 PM
its like being back in school... ;)

@JourneymanGeek 50 more rep?

@DavidPostill then I have 88 888 rep
exactly

Its a cool number ;p

Bob
Hm.

12:01 PM
Lol

I think I screenshotted me getting 66 666

Bob
Looking for a lightweight ~13" laptop for my brother.

does it mean you are 5 times as lucky in chinese?

Bob
@qwertyuiop, you mentioned the Core M was decent?

Spectre?

Bob
12:01 PM
I've not used one :P

@Bob how lightweight?

what's he using it for?

@Bob macbook

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ~1-1.5kg, school/uni (word processing, web)

12:02 PM
X1 carbon

Bob
Max of 1.7kg

@Bob cherry trail!

Bob
Budget... probably under $1500 (AUD)

macbook will get him chicks

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Nah, we're looking at Core M minimum. Mostly cause Atom isn't really smooth for larger webpages.

12:02 PM
@Burgi Lol

Bob
@Burgi He's not an Apple user. Thank god.
2

@Burgi then dowdy is better. Gotta focus on school ;p

Bob
Anyway, software-wise, Windows will serve him better.

i can't take my macbook anywhere these days. i look like a hipster :(

12:04 PM
Seriously?
What's wrong in looking hip?

um... yeah
i'm 33

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere It's a kitty with kitty eyes

Bob
@RahulBasu Out of the budget, unfortunately.

@qwertyuiop lol

Bob
I'll try to get him into some of the local stores to play around on some.
But the UX305 (Core m3/8GB RAM) looks like the best fit at the moment.
Anyone here actually used Core M?

12:06 PM
@RahulBasu i have had the same style for the last 17 years and now it is suddenly "cool"

33? I thought you were 13
Or was that someone else

i said all guys stop aging at 13

Bob
@RahulBasu Spectre... the x360 is a maaaaybe.

@qwertyuiop I'm 15 :D

@Burgi I wish. I would still have my hair :p

12:08 PM
@Bob It can be

Bob
@qwertyuiop That's not very reassuring!

@Bob I quite like the HP 360's. No dGPU though

Bob
@qwertyuiop Yea, he's not gaming on this thing.
iGPUs are more than enough these days. I hope, anyway.
If it fails to render 1080p video I'm sending it back.

Bob
lol

12:10 PM
i remember taking my 2nd hand ibook to a coffee shop and playing black and white

Bob
True... I've had a modern-ish Atom (w/ on-die GPU) struggle with Flash-based video.

@Bob I believe the Broadwell (maybe Haswell?) based Core M's were lacking hardware acceleration for some Youtube videos which made them pretty sloppy for that
Skylake ones are fine though

Bob
@qwertyuiop Oh. Urk.

@Bob Well, funny enough frequent access is something they excell at.

Bob
m3-6Y30 should be Skylake, yea?

12:14 PM
Yes. Although it is also an M3

Bob
:\
Double urk.
Can't be worse than Atom. I hope.

Basically as with all Core M's, burst speed is fine, and equals any laptop with a core i3/i5/i7
It's just sustained performance can be an issue if the laptop has passive cooling
With good active cooling designs they'll sustain 2Ghz+ turbo indefinitely

Bob
@qwertyuiop Yea... I'm hoping he's not gonna need to do anything that requires sustained performance.
The burst should get it over the initial webpage loading and then scrolling through should be minimal.
Video is mostly GPU-accelerated (or should be).
Word processing is negligible.
Sounds like it should be fine.

Architecture/IPC/efficiency wise it is literally just a core i7 with the TDP turned down
If you're real smart and lucky you can hack the TDP back up

Bob
Heh, no need for that, thankfully.

12:18 PM
@Bob Most school students end up playing games at some point out another...

Bob
I don't really want to be responsible for keeping this thing working :P

if you pre-order CIV6 you get 40% off a steam controller...

Bob
@RahulBasu He's got another laptop and a desktop for games.

lol

12:19 PM
You can simulate its performance by getting a regular laptop and setting the long-duration turbo boost to 5w cap too
But anyway

Bob
@qwertyuiop At the cost of a heavier/bulkier device, sure :P
Or more expensive.
Or all three.
@qwertyuiop o.o
Good luck!

er.... you realise that it is a bank holiday @qwertyuiop

@Bob I meant if you wanted to get a feel for how a Core M performs, you can use an existing laptop and replicate the characteristics

Bob
@qwertyuiop Or do you mean for testing? Hm, there's an idea, actually.

@Burgi Yes, although I usually don't observe bank holidays at my company and neither do these guys apparently

Bob
12:20 PM
I have absolutely no idea how to do it, but I'll look into that this weekend if I remember :D
Thanks.

Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility

how strange

Bob
Fiddling with CPU power (along with over/underclocking) hasn't really been my thing. Eh, good time to start.
@qwertyuiop Thanks.

Lets you set turbo boost ratios and TDPs and stuff. Mostly for unlocked K/X series CPUs, but on mobile parts you can tweak the TDPs between the existing limits

Bob
Only got Haswell here, but if that works then Skylake should be fine.

12:22 PM
On a K series part you can set the TDP to 4000w if you feel like it -_-
On my Skylake-U mobile chip (15w) I could set the TDP to anywhere from 0w to 25w.
(25w being the factory limit short-duration turbo boost, 15w being the nominal long-duration turbo boost)

Bob
What does 0 W do? :P

Crash.

Bob
lol

Should I wear a condom during this interview?

i thought you said you were a woman

Bob
12:25 PM
Depends what kind of message you want to send!

Well it's a telephone interview

Bob
Also, the battery life on this phone is amazing.

It supposedly enhances intimacy between you and your partner for a more connected, sharing experience
Apparently that was a problem during my last distance interview.

Bob
Isn't that if you don't wear one?

They just weren't feeling the "connection" enough

12:27 PM
@qwertyuiop If you have to ask a question like that you are probably too out of it to even think about an interview.
4

Bob
Did you try blowing in the phone jacks?
Might be some dust stuck in there.

@Bob It was Skype

Bob
Ethernet jacks then.

Maybe it was the antivirus interrupting the flow? Like how it did to crash a heart machine in a hospital?
> Smartphone Antivirus Concept Stock Photo
WTF

I wouldn't be suprised if that got flagged ...
It is almost funny

12:34 PM
I was more like WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Damn, those oldschool cards are looooong

Modern high-end graphics cards are just as long tbh

quite a bit of that is heatsink?

But yeah the condom isn't even protecting the port, and WTF is the SD card doing there? It doesn't even go NEAR the phone

@qwertyuiop done by the same sort of people who hold solderign irons by the tip

12:35 PM
@JourneymanGeek That explains a lot

hm. Granted, ven if its cheating?

That card looks bigger
prolly cause of all those ICs

Yeah I'm not sure what the dimensions are compared to modern ones
Modern ones are thicker and wider too though, with 2-3 slot coolers, so the perspective can distort it a bit

12:41 PM
Actually I'm pretty sure the longest cards these days probably adhere to the same slot length specifications as the old ISA ones

those cards predate ATX tho
so different specifications

Though I think AMD are the only ones that still make use of the maximum lengths available, whereas NVidia stick to shorter/newer length specs

AMD does dual processor cards
nvidia hasn't yet.

I'm pretty sure that says NVidia on it

0_0
So it does
I have no idea what that is tho

12:52 PM
@Burgi If he feels like a woman, then he is a woman! You sexist...

GTX Titan Z
!!s/he/she

@qwertyuiop That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

wtf

See? Jon agrees.

ahh
I didn't realise titans were dual processor

12:53 PM
Only the Z
AFAIK the X isn't. Very confusiong
Maybe I shsould do so meth so I'm sober for this interview
4
Or just tea

Tea
Its a hell of a drug
I mean the british traded opium for it

@JourneymanGeek That's surprisingly accurate now that you mention... O.o
Walter White should have become a tea maker instead.
(NO SPOILERS PLEASE, I am still on season 4)

I didn't manage to get past the first two episodes

Didn't like it?

Who the hell is walter white
