Fer fucks sake
@ThatBrazilianGuy yes
Go through speed camera doing 104 in a 70 limit: nothing happens. Go through speed camera doing 30.2 in a 30 limit... Get flashed.

@PotatoCat Have you managed to fix your housing situation?

@ThatBrazilianGuy What situation? There is no situation.

Well, last I heard you were at a hotel or something and all your stuff was packed somewhere.

Yeah, that's my life now
I'm a street cat.

I'm not sure how this addresses the question. At your reputation level, I would better content than a mere rant. As such, it's been flagged as not an answer. — bwDraco 1 min ago

If those fuckers dare put penalty points on my license for doing less than 31 in a 30 zone I'm going to sue the dweebs who built that speed camera all the way into hell

@PotatoCat Here, if you are even 0.001 over the speed limit (in mph), they'll take a picture, but you only get a ticket if you're traveling more than 5 mph above the speed limit at the time they take the picture
I often drive about 2 mph over the speed limit to waste their film / digital storage
I get my picture taken like twice daily and never get a ticket
I've even seen people do the same and stick their middle finger out the window at the guy sitting in an SUV manually operating the camera
and there have been numerous occasions where people pulled over, and took a sledgehammer and destroyed the cameras

1:44 AM
@JourneymanGeek I got a green check mark a few minutes ago for answering this question about a software recommendation: superuser.com/questions/1132643/safe-alternative-to-dd . Since it's a software recommendation question anyway, could this question be migrated to Software Recommendations Q&A?

@karel kinda dosen't meet their quality standards
imo at least.

The way I see it, the question lacks adequate detail for migration.

Threw it into their chat room to see

I'll let Software Recs tell me if the question needs to be edited before I do anything with it.

2:00 AM
Might be a bit. I'll keep an eye on it.

2:11 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy yeah ;D

2:47 AM
US government officially accuses russia of hacking campaign to interfere with election. Uhh how could they make it worse :-)

they'll find a way.

3:27 AM
Wow. I kinda thought that was a bad call.

ahh todays kids, trying to hire help to paint the house, and they like Ok i got it typed into google , what color did you want.
Uhh , I think thats the wrong program
Oh yea you want photoshop right.

Isnt an illegal alien supposed to do that?
I guess they havent heard about the trump wall :-)

@Psycogeek "US government officially accuses Russia of creating Hurricane Matthew to interfere with election."
is that worse? :P

lol

Howdy?

ooh
@bwDraco spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder5capturepro I believe this is what my brother bought
so the caliberator is a spyder 5 pro

5:03 AM
This query is really alarming in that it shows just how many printers are exposed to the Internet.

@bwDraco There are a lot more

5:43 AM
@Bob BL?

6:17 AM
@PotatoCat +1

Bob
6:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek Ah. About to head out.
Just spent a day installing handles on cabinets.

@Bob never mind then. I'm caliberating my monitors now

Bob
lol
@JourneymanGeek Maybe in, say... 3 or 4 hours?

should be plausible yes
I should be done (on both) in about half an hour
This is nice
seems that I'd managed to caliberate my monitors to within 1cd of each other by eye

7:20 AM
ooh
there's an option for actually matching displays

7:36 AM
Shave once and it will last you for an entire year?
Priceless

9:02 AM
My math teacher called me average.

@Bob lol. Those are the 5 Stages of Grief & Loss :)

10:38 AM
@Bob no, that's game dev

11:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek Erf. Nice, but not as good as the Dell. And probably costs far too much and doesn't support usual PC outputs :-(

@allquicatic Hah, nice. The general rule of thumb here is supposed to be the cameras are set to 10% over the speed limit +2mph, so 35 in a 30 zone. And you always get a ticket if you get your picture taken, unless the camera is a dummy (80% are apparently)

hmm
blah

@allquicatic ouch at the poor guy in the suv! Ours are mostly fixed cameras and the hooligans sometimes put a tyre filled with petrol underneath and set it on fire

11:16 AM
Newer types are all-digital and upload over the Internet immediately after the picture is taken, so never run out of film and setting fire to it after the fact won't help

I have my brother's monitor caliberation kit for the weekend
I generated a report for the crossover but I'm too lazy to do it for the dell

@PotatoCat And you know your speedometer is accurate because?

@DavidPostill hence the allowance

But for the most part ours only flash at speeds where they intend to ticket you

They flash?
Also the reason they have fake boxes is supposedly they switch around the cameras between boxes

11:20 AM
Yes
@JourneymanGeek because they can't afford enough cameras for all the boxes :-P

@PotatoCat and oddly it makes no sense as a deterrent

I didn't know they had speed cameras in the US

Its like those fake blinky light survellence cameras
Real ones don't blink

You can't tell the fake ones from the working ones here, they're all the same housing. Sometimes the fake ones are a complete full unit just missing film
And yeah, they swap them around randomly just to keep people guessing
The one I did 104 through, which obviously wasnt working that day definitely had been in the past cause the cops said they recorded the highest ever speed in Scotland there, someone doing 150-something on a motorcycle
They've put down some weird rubber strips in the road near some of the cameras recently, including the one I triggered yesterday

@JourneymanGeek "A speedo must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph." - assumes the speedo is calibrated correctly. He could have a speedo that is calibrated incorrectly, for whatever reason.
And of course the camera could be incorrectly calibrated as well.

11:27 AM
@DavidPostill so 10% makes sense

"Rubber strips in the road calculate your speed as you pass over them via the small telltale grey post which sits along side. The DS2 system requires a mobile camera usually in a van to plug into this grey post inorder to photograph you. They cant calculate your speed without the van plugging the camera in the post so watch for it nearby.

Difficult to spot if you are not using a GPS Speed Camera Warning System. Cant capture your speed unless the van with camera is plugged into the grey post. Sometimes the strips in the road are only on one side of the road."

and speedometer ratings depend on tower size ect

@JourneymanGeek and tyre pressure as well.
"If the diameter decreases (eg – worn tyres, less air in the tyres, a different brand of tyre with slightly different dimensions, more load in the car weighing it down and compressing the tyres), then the car will be travelling a shorter distance for each revolution of the wheel, therefore you will be going slower."

11:29 AM
yup
since speed is kinda 'guesstimated'

@JourneymanGeek When I was driving in NL I tested my speed on a test track. My TomTom was more accurate than the speedo ... and it warned me about the (fixed) cameras on normal roads :)

@DavidPostill Thing is these are attached to fixed speed cameras which are supposed to use built-in radar.
@JourneymanGeek Legally a vehicle speedo here is not allowed to indicate lower than actual speed but allowed to indicate anything up to 10% higher. Theoretically your car/bike/etc. wouldn't be road legal if it said 29 when you were doing 30.
The UK public are especially cunty about their speed cams, and hence the government must use two speed measurement methods on each camera, unlike other countries where one measurement is sufficient

@PotatoCat That doesn't mean your speedo is accurate. It could just mean you will fail your next MOT.

@DavidPostill I've calibrated against my GPS
(And I verified my speed retrospectively using my GPS logger)
Also gonna be another two years before I need a MOT

@PotatoCat OK. Then ignore everything I've said :)

11:37 AM
Some conspiracy theorists say the reason cars often read 10% higher on their speedo than their actual speed is so the manufacturers make more money by shortening service intervals by 10% cause the odo will read 10% over too
My speedo's error varies across the range, at 20-30mph it's off by about 6%, at 70mph it's off by about 10%
@DavidPostill I already do. :-P
Hmm 5-star hotels only £80 a night in the emirates? o_0
@allquicatic I wonder what the legal precedents are in the US if people get away with that... here, it's technically just as illegal to do 0.001 over as it is to do 100mph over, so a particularly pissed off cop would be technically within their rights to take you to court and slap you with a £1000 fine for doing 0.001 over. While you usually get some leeway, speeding past with your middle finger up is not going to get you much sympathy.

@PotatoCat quite simply, its the simple matter of "if the state chooses not to procecute, unless there's a statute otherwise...."

@JourneymanGeek Why would they not choose to prosecute a douchebag breaking the law and sticking their middle finger up to the cops? :-/
Those are exaclty the kind of people who need their freedom and liberty rescinded

Cause said douchbag is likely going to autodarwinate himself in a fiery end involving fireworks, acts found in a certain sort of literature and one very traumatised gerbil?

Oh i hadn't thought of it like thast
But there's still the risk he'll take someone else out in the meantime

more seriously? The footage might not be good enough for a good match
or the camera might have been pointing at the wrong thing
being... a speed camera not a douchdetector...
@PotatoCat the gerbil? It would likely welcome death.

11:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek But AQ mentions people driving past cops operating the camera manually flipping the bird

@PotatoCat Then what?
Being a douch isn't against the law
and its not like you're going to chase that fella like a hollywood movie

@JourneymanGeek Well... they can get you for public order offebces/breach of the peace/ etc
They staked out a douchebag here like in the movies

@PotatoCat is it worth the effort?

The cops think so

eww the smell.

11:57 AM
Also de-douchebagging the world is always worth the effort

"But the image was clear enough for police to recognise him when he drove down the road again and they made a note of his number plate."
Not the sharpest knife in the drawer

Bob
@DavidPostill eh, you can compare your speedo against GPS. GPS would be almost perfectly accurate for average over a decent straight stretch.
Mine is fairly consistently ~3-5km high
Oh, @PotatoCat already said that -_-

@Bob Hey Bob
DP did that too himself I think

Bob
ah

The better looking one of the two dumb canadians looks like taylor swift

Bob
12:01 PM
o.O

I thought I was trying to be badass this year :-(
I was so pissed off yesterday I was >this< close to speeding past a cop car to make them give chase
I had such an epic plan for doing 100mph through the high street in the city centre and ramming a tram or something
> Three other bikers from the group were convicted at Crawley Magistrates Court of careless driving, dangerous driving and threatening behaviour.
Middle finger = threatning behaviour!

WTF
thats bullsh*t
srsly!?
wow

@GuitarShoeDave :-P
> ARE these Queensland's most stupid drivers?
Hey Bob is that you? :-P
> One motorcyclist was clocked speeding at 146km/h in a 100km/h zone when he gave a fixed speed camera on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary a double-fingered salute, taking both hands off the wheel.

Bob
@PotatoCat wrong state

Totally forgot which side of the street they're supposed to be driving on.

Bob
12:11 PM

Wait Aussies drive on the left?!

Sounds like it!

Its funny because the other side of the street the drivers driving on the right side
Mindblown

I donno, but still lol

> This past week, two speeding-related things happened in Singapore – a 19-year-old P-plate driver killed himself while riding at high speed through Bedok and the Traffic Police announced their next-generation speed cameras.

Bob
@PotatoCat lol

What's a P plate in Singapore?
@Bob Well I can get one of those 1-year working holiday visas apparently

Bob
Provisional?

All I need is a home address to apply from >_>

Apparently Mexico city has the perfect weather for me, but they all speak spanish
@Burgi Lol, sloppy reporting

i've sprained my hand somehow last night

Too much fapping?
> The photos included one showing Skilton, from Ellis Road, Southampton, pulling an 82mph wheelie in a 30mph zone. Southampton magistrates handed him an 18-month ban, a £600 fine and no less than 39 points in his licence – six for each speeding offence plus three for riding without control.

12:19 PM
@Burgi Hmm. That's verging on too much information :)

LMAO. 39 points.... 6 points disqualifies a new driver, 12 gets anyone's license taken away

what about the guy who did 165 on the M6

Lol, the clarity of some of these photographs

12:21 PM
She was given 51 points for the offences - but a court "exercised its discretion" and decided against banning her.

They even look like they're not moving

@Burgi Funny thing about that...
Penalties for speeding on a motorway are much higher than that on any other road, and the threshold for prosecution is much lower
Which is weird, seeing as IMO doing 90 on a motorway is far less dangerous than doing 110 in a city street with a 30mph limit
Yet the penalty is at least double

agreed
i think i must have fallen on my hand
@PotatoCat a guy i used to work with got caught speeding in his new car and the quality was so good he got it framed

12:37 PM
@Burgi Haha!
Nice
@DavidPostill You never see the speedo and the road at the same time though, who's to say he didn't film that on a treadmill and cut the shots?

@DavidPostill they didn't look like country roads to me

They're roads and they're in a country!

12:58 PM
> Lewis Shallcross, 20, filmed himself roaring through Plymouth, Devon
Footage shows him pulling stunts, driving over a footbridge and in bus lanes
Police eventually pulled Shallcross over and found the helmet-cam video
He argued with officers - and said he thought the speed limit was 100mph
*facepalm
he said he thought the speed limit was 100mph

being as stupid as that should be a crime

<shrug> I didn't write the article. Please send a letter of complaint to the Daily Mirror. To make that easier for you here is their registered address:

Registered office: MGN Limited, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5AP.

:)

@DavidPostill wait... london?
That's clearly a canadian postal code, and it also says "one canada square"
TIL: There is a one canada square in england
TIL: England has similar postal code to UK... That makes sense considering past of canada and uk.

@arda lol
One Canada Square is a skyscraper in Canary Wharf, London. It was the tallest building in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 2010, standing at 770 feet (235 m) above ground level and containing 50 storeys. In late 2010, it was surpassed by The Shard (completed in July 2012) which stands at 309.6 metres (1,016 ft). One Canada Square was designed by principal architect Cesar Pelli, who based the design and shape mainly on the World Financial Center and the shape of Elizabeth Tower although the developers' (Olympia and York) previous flagship projects, First Canadian Place in Toronto and the Aon Center...

@arda "England has similar postal code to UK" => England is part of the UK...

Bob
lol
UK postcodes are funny things

First Canadian Place (originally First Bank Building) is a skyscraper in the financial district of Toronto, Ontario, at the northwest corner of King and Bay streets, and is the location of the Toronto operational head office of the Bank of Montreal. At 298 m (978 ft), it is Canada's tallest skyscraper and the 15th tallest building in North America to structural top (spires) and 9th highest to the roof top, and the 105th tallest in the world. It is the third tallest free-standing structure in Canada, after CN Tower (also in Toronto) and the Inco Superstack chimney in Sudbury, Ontario. The building...

Bob
1:17 PM
UHM.

Hmm. When did they move Ontario to Canada? :)
Ontario is a city located in southwestern San Bernardino County, California, United States, 35 miles (56 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. Located in the western part of the Inland Empire region, it lies just east of the Los Angeles county line and is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. As of the 2010 Census, the city had a population of 163,924, up from 158,007 at the 2000 census, making it the county's fourth most populous city after San Bernardino, Fontana, and Rancho Cucamonga. The city is home to the LA/Ontario International Airport, which is the 15th busiest airport in the United States...

These people... do not appear to understand how sales are meant to work -_-

Is ISR a part of the Kernel?
Hey guys

@HassanAlthaf Yes. Probably. What OS?

Bob
hmmm. I wonder why my package apparently went through customs in New Zealand

1:25 PM
In computer systems programming, an interrupt handler, also known as an interrupt service routine or ISR, is a callback function in microcontroller firmware, an operating system or a device driver, whose execution is triggered by the reception of an interrupt. In general, interrupts and their handlers are used to handle high-priority conditions that require the interruption of the current code the processor is executing. Interrupt handlers have a multitude of functions, which vary based on what triggered the interrupt and the speed at which the interrupt handler completes its task. For example...
"SLIHs either have a dedicated kernel thread for each handler, or are executed by a pool of kernel worker threads. These threads sit on a run queue in the operating system until processor time is available for them to perform processing for the interrupt. SLIHs may have a long-lived execution time, and thus are typically scheduled similarly to threads and processes."

Bob
@DavidPostill That's pretty implementation-specific, though.

@Bob Not as funny as England ones!

@Bob Yep. That's why I said:
4 mins ago, by DavidPostill
@HassanAlthaf Yes. Probably. What OS?

Bob
hm, I need a new bag

> The orange-yellow triangle plate that we see on the cars is called the Probation plate, or the P plate for short. On passing the Practical Driving Test, a driving licence will be issued. The licence holder will undergo a 1-year probation period, in which he is required to display the probationary licence plate
So basically like a UK P-plate except that in the UK it's not mandatory

1:42 PM
IIRC its mandatory
@Bob I think I am good for another round

@DavidPostill In general CS terms.

@DavidPostill also known as torchwood tower

2:49 PM
later all just finished my 300th migration at work
time to sail home
in the rain of course (effin hurricane)
"set sail for fail"

Pie is the pan Island express express way

3:53 PM
@GuitarShoeDave which bit of the states are you in?

Bob
4:07 PM
O_O
Rumor is new MS Paint might include... 3D modelling?!
@PotatoCat Nah, he crashed into a pie.

4:24 PM
Hello guys. Something strange is happening to me

@Bob holy crap

I'm converting a a lot, lot of stuff

What kind of stuff?

videos
and I've noticed that my conversion can "recover" image from the source
and I'm not getting crazy I took screenshots
there's a image where clearly you can see the converted file you can see more around a object than the source

What's the source format? How were the videos recorded (e.g. on a video camera)?

4:38 PM
source is .VOB, converted to .mp4 with h.264
I supposed the source was recorded by professional cameras at that time
like ranging from 1980-1999
and the resolution stays nearly the same, I'm using handbrake and it always cut the source a little

Where are the videos being played?
I suspect overscan may be involved, but I'm not a video format expert :/

VLC on Windows 7x64
my pc is at maximum resolution of 1366 x 768

@Bob ...
Rumour is if that happens I'll move into someone's home
Anyone want to adopt a 3D modeled MSPaint cat?

Bob
o.O
So, anyone happen to have a rec for a laptop/messenger bag? :P

@Bob Messenger style or backpack style?

Bob
4:50 PM
@PotatoCat Messenger

@Bob Nup :-( Not had one of those for like, eight years

Bob
ah

Probably should get one, probably will when I get my next laptop

Bob
I have a (small) backpack one right now

I should fly to Mexico then to Australia
I need to make use of all these bags I've bought somehow

Bob
4:51 PM
found a couple nice ones... that don't ship to australia

I also need to make use of my triple baggage allowance somehow

Bob
o.O
triple baggage allowance?

@Bob Yeah, silver tier status with my airline = I get 2x32Kg bags instead of 1x23Kg in economy
Well strictly speaking the benefit is a minimum of 2x32Kg in any class, though anything above economy you already get two bags anyway (23kg in premium, 32 in business)

Bob
@PotatoCat Is that one-time or perpetual?

@Bob Until my membership expires, which it'll do in a year if I don't get enough points to renew

Bob
4:53 PM
Come on, they're selling bags, how are there no interior photos?!
@PotatoCat Ah. Sounds pretty nice then.

Also free business lounge access in any class, which is why I want to fly to Singapore to check out the Qantas lounge

Bob
o.O

@Bob Amazon is pretty shit for bag photos tbh, my last laptop bag I found elsewhere and used every site except Amazon to find the photos, then bought it on Amazon
But Singapore isn't on the way from Mexico to Australia :-(

Bob
@PotatoCat Did you not go there last time?

@Bob Yeah but I didn't have my frequent flyer status then, so I was just a lowly economy class nobody

Bob
4:55 PM
@PotatoCat Oh.

Now my frequent flyer status basically gives me business class everything except the actual seat, nomatter what ticket I have.

Bob

I should go to John Lewis and find myself a bigger suitcase before they close, which is in like, 30 minutes
Brb mobiling

Bob
urk, a few too many pockets

Back
Too many? Not possible
Every bag I've ever seen I've wanted more pockets
Last bag I had literally had the most pockets I could find in any bag, and I still added three more myself and it's still not enough
