@JourneymanGeek Eh... the core of the answer is more that "windows can send, not receive", not the software-rec. The bigger issue is that it essentially duplicates another answer.
By itself, the answer isn't that bad.

@Bob I did say lazy.

To be clear, I did not flag as spam. I did not have a good reason to actually believe that this was spam. The user has a positive record of contributions.

@JourneymanGeek I just finished setting up my rube goldberg-of-a-machine of wifi APs, VPN and routing we talked yesterday

works?

@JourneymanGeek like a goddamn charm

iptables is arcane to me but I got it

be prepared to relearn it then ;p
IIRC they're in the process of replacing that with en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nftables

Anonymous
@JourneymanGeek yes I knew that... what a nice thing to bear in mind

Anonymous
12:56 AM
and fedora uses firewalld rather than iptables now, too

firewalld is a frontend I think
does make it a lot nicer

Anonymous
indeed but i haven't read its docs yet

Anonymous
@JourneymanGeek well fedora docs call it a "dynamic firewall" vs iptables "a static firewall"

@PatoSáinz: since you can apply rules based off location and stuff
to me its still a matter of how its organised over functionality
its a lot easier to manage IMO, which is nice ;p

@JourneymanGeek the command for nftables is nft right?

1:01 AM
no idea. Never used ti ;p

Does anyone know why this gets timerun error when I upload to UVA?
import java.math.*;
import java.util.*;
class uva11115 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
BigInteger a = new BigInteger("0");
BigInteger cero = new BigInteger("0");
int b;
a=scan.nextBigInteger();
b=scan.nextInt();
while(b!=0 || a.compareTo(cero)!=0){
a=a.pow(b);
System.out.println(a);
a=scan.nextBigInteger();
b=scan.nextInt();
}
}
}
It is my first java program and it runs fine on IDE but it wont work on UVA

hmm....

what is wrong with that line?
It is problem 11115

Bob
@dREaM Usually because it's too slow.

it says it is going to end with 0 0

Bob
Try more complete testcases.
Try any edge cases.

2:08 AM
but when it is too slow it usually says time limit exceeded
Thanks
I'll try using better testcases

Bob
@dREaM Wait, do you mean runtime error?
Because "timerun" really makes no sense.

oh yeah, my bad

Bob
@dREaM Check which JRE version the judge is running.
And I guess the source level too.

java 1.7.0 Java Sun SDK
Oh, I see where the problem is
nevermind

Bob
@dREaM Hm?

2:18 AM
I thought I had made a mistake which would make the program scan a number that might not exist
But that won't happen.

Bob
@dREaM btw, you can use BigInteger.ZERO instead of instantiating another instance

Thanks, I made that change. Although I think I'll still get RE

Bob
Hm.
shrug
Maybe .close() the scanner for kicks?
I don't think that's it, but nothing really looks wrong at a glance.

how do I close the scanner?

Bob
scan.close() at the end, or make the whole thing a try-with-resources

3:01 AM
@dREaM I was going to say something, but then realised that I was mistaken myself. :)

Well, UVA is down right now, so there's no hurry.
thanks for help everyone

Bob
@dREaM Yea, it's pretty easy to exhaustively test all cases.
Something else is wrong.
Maybe the uva judge broke? :P

well, the UVA judge is not working right now :(

Bob
@dREaM maybe they took it down to fix it?

some guy called Miguel Frade submitted a problem and everything stopped working :)
@Bob Hopefully :p

@Ramhound You here?
I don't want to carry on an argument in comments, but I have to point out:
1. As far as VirtualBox cares, *it doesn't matter* how many physical CPU packages are installed. Each logical CPU (e.g. core) is treated the same way.
2. VirtualBox doesn't even care about logical CPUs (cores)! Each virtual CPU is exactly equivalent to one *thread* running on the host. You can emulate an 8-CPU guest on a 1-CPU host (albeit slowly).
3. Even if VirtualBox cared about the difference, the fact is that each virtual CPU is presented to the guest as a core in a single CPU package. It does not even attempt to emulate multiple CPU packages (different from multiple logical CPUs as ex
> The user is attempting to use visualize multiple CPUs in a system that has single CPU.
And? So? That's perfectly possible, completely supported, and completely standard as far as VBox (and, indeed, most other hypervisors) is concerned.
Going back to #1 above, the N2815 has two cores, so it has two CPUs - where a CPU is defined not as a package but rather as an execution core.
But even then you can emulate more than two virtual CPUs!
Heck, in the case of hyperthreading (and similar SMT techniques) you can represent a single execution core as more than one logical CPU, nevermind multiple execution cores.
(This is about the comments here)

A: Is answering to a software recommendation request considered spam?

SathyaYou've changed the question since it was first posted, I don't know which to address so I'll consider the revision that is latest at the time of writing this. Is answering to a software recommendation request considered spam? No, it's not. Putting a bare link, however is considered as spam...

@DragonLord I awoke on Mon, 31 Aug 2015 17:13:53 GMT (that's about 1 hour ago), got invoked 5 times, learned 99 commands

@HackToHell Yeah, I've handwritten CSS and it is hard as hell to get it right.
html {
    font-family: Candara, Calibri, Optima, "Liberation Sans", "Arial Light", sans-serif;
    font-size: large;
}
p {
    text-align: justify;
}
img {
    max-width: 100%;
}
blockquote {
    background-color: #F0F0F0;
    margin-left:32px;
    margin-right:32px;
}
footer {
    font-size: smaller;
}

.code {
    font-family: Consolas, "Courier New", "Liberation Mono", "Droid Sans Mono", monospace;
    background-color: #F0F0F0;
}
.top-header {
    color: darkred;
    text-decoration: none;
All this code just for a simple responsive style.

BlankmanJust looking at: (Source: https://xkcd.com/327/) What does this SQL do: Robert'); DROP TABLE STUDENTS; -- I know both ' and -- are for comments, but doesn't the word DROP get commented as well since it is part of the same line?

@allquixotic I've been toying with getting supervisord, or learning to do upstart or systemd scripts for stuff like that.

8:14 PM
@JourneymanGeek pretty sure Upstart can't do it, but the question of "Can systemd ..." always ends in "Yes"

@allquixotic: upstart probably can, but its not really worth learning upstart
supervisord is what we use at work for stuff that dies. A Lot. So... worth learning for me ;p

Don't you hate it when you find an article on a lazy Sunday about an .exe wrapper file for photo viewer on win 10 but don't recall the site or filename or the title of the article

Also, I LOVE those documentation
lol

so you can't FIND it later?

I have a thing for that.

driving me up the wall

check history? Put it into pocket or something?

9:05 PM
turns out I don't need it
does not appear in history
and I didn't dream it....i think
these websites have horrible search routines...
I am thinking the article must have been taken down or something because I simply cannot find it

@Ramhound Is that to replace that weird iconless thing that pops up when you open photos under Win10? :P
Give that a crack

It is so you can use it to "open with" on imags.
Yeah, I know about that

Oh, then ^

I just hate not being able to find something
its like i never visted it

Ahhh, okay.

9:12 PM
but I specfically recall not only reading the file name, but also thinking, where i would put it on my system

Anyone good with troubleshooting Moodle?

I got the only command you need for a Moodle site
drop table Moodle :-)

@CanadianLuke In my experience, the best tool to deal with moodle is one that uses ammo.

9:37 PM
-.-
Right now, our Moodle site is down, and we host it for thousands of students... All because of Wiris not installing properly!

Why are you doing updates on a live server :$
Why do I have the same HTG article open 5 times?
lol

Q: How to list only files of a certain type in terminal

OndeckshootingI was wondering how I can list all files of a certain type that are in a directory using the ls command. For example I am in the ~/Desktop Directory and I want to see all mp3 files what do I do in order to only see the mp3 files? Thanks in advance, Ondeckshooting

Anonymous
@bertieb well the comment and the only answer is quite pedantic

Anonymous
I guess running file on each file and grepping whether it's mp3 would be more correct

(I need some way of modulating the volume of the SE chat notifications, they keep making me jump)
yeah
I can see where the comment is coming from though- if you're going to ask a simple question, might as well get it as technically correct ("The best kind of correct!")
(for the uninitiated)
I guess SU doesn't assume any particular level of knowledge; and using the command line is enough to make someone a power user in and of itself.
Anyway, that's my 'grumpy old man' complaint for the day

@bertieb Depending on your OS and browser you can set volume per tab

And since I'm not really in a position to throw stones, living as I do in a glass house, I'll refrain from further comment :P
@Asmyldof I did have a look before; Firefox 40 on 8 atm
