Sometimes, the corporate requirements for spacing, sizing and colour (down to specific pantone colours, with RGB/CMYK approximations sometimes allowed) are crazily strict.
I already found a vector image now, I just don't see why they would offer me 4 downloads, one of them being an EPS, when it's just the same image embedded in an EPS

Answers with 0 or negative votes are never eligible to automatically receive half a bounty though
Oh, I don't mind. I sort of knew I wouldn't see it again, but i thought it always defaulted to someone somehow. But on an utterly unanswered question, true, if the rule is that the sponsor never sees it again, there's little choice but to destroy it.
If the sponsor could see it again then there would be a lot more bounties and people would get good answers and then not award the bounty to anyone and keep their rep

Well personally I'd have made it a moderator process, or something. If there are any answers, then the moderators can study them and decide if the unawarded bounty should go to one of them. But even though I'm not gonna cry about it, it's not like it's the sponsor's fault if NO ONE answers.

You have understanding bosses? THat's good. I hope I can have that one day. I may do better job than many and I may be more dedicated than many and all, but I can't guarantee being on time for crap. Even just yesterday, I would've been late to school if I hadn't paid a taxi (because I didn't want to be late on my first day and the day I was supposed to do a coming-out announcement in front of the whole class in the beginning on top)
well my bosses are fairly understanding but we also have a time we're supposed to be there (ish) - however, the consequences are directly related to what you were expected to be doing when you weren't there
missing an early meeting is a huge problem, whereas, coming in a little late on an ordinary day when nothing is immediately due, is generally fine
I wish how late Iam was even remotely related to how important what I have to do in the day. I missed an exam last term. Although I was feeling very depressed and I had forgotten to write it down.

If you can confirm that 1. left alignment is doable while leaving the rest of the theme untouched and 2. it doesn't tax the PC particularly/have other consequences that's rather great
@Ariane I think you'd have to custom design a theme that specifically does just this, but there are good tutorials online for how to create WindowBlinds themes, and it doesn't require any programming or graphics design expertise -- in fact, if you just want plain vanilla Windows 8 theme with left-aligned text, you might not need to do anything except write a configuration file.
Actually, you might not even have to do that -- WindowBlinds comes bundled with a graphical program called SkinStudio, which is the program that lets you design your theme.
@Bob one of the built-in themes in WindowBlinds was to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7, and I guess as part of that they brought back left-aligned window titles, but they also dug out the old Windows 7 Aero graphics and transparency effects, too.
it's probably even easier to use SkinStudio to say "hey, let's load up the standard Windows 8 theme, and now... I want window title text to be left-aligned! Done! Save! Load it!"
@Bob well, it's a theme that does look like Windows 7, but in every way that counts -- even the transparency effects, minimize/maximize, etc... I think the new Windows 8 interfaces give applications with admin rights the capability to push arbitrary shaders as desktop effects
it's not literally taking the Microsoft Aero code and plunking it down
@somequixotic Perhaps not (though I wouldn't be surprised if it still existed in a system library for legacy reasons), but the glass effects et al. wouldn't have been easy to implement.

But one thing kept getting kicked up by usability tests: People booted up the computer and just sat there, unsure what to do next.
That's when we decided to label the System button "Start".
It says, "You dummy. Click here." And it sent our usability numbers through the roof, because all of a sudden, people knew what to click when they wanted to do something.

@Bob honestly, as long as the button's in the same physical location on the screen, I don't think most people would care if it said "Start", "System", "Toilet", showed a picture of a cat, a flag, or Steve Ballmer's face.
(also as long as it responds to the windows key on peoples' keyboards; that's important too)
from Windows 95 through Windows 7, people have been habituated to either clicking the thingy in the bottom left corner, or tapping the windows key, to do stuff with their computer
If you want to argue that point, well, 8 never really broke it - the key still works, and you can still get a 'start button' in the same general location.
I think new users could be habituated equally well to XP, Vista, 7, 8, Ubuntu Unity, GNOME Shell, Cinnamon, GNOME Classic, or pretty much any other DE... new users make mistakes; new users don't know wtf to do; new users can get used to almost anything, no matter how good or bad it is in terms of objective UX principles; and new users need to gain experience to become useful -- these are the facts
But that's beside the point. I just found it interesting that they dropped "start" for what they used to have (over a decade ago), which was considered difficult to use at the time
I agree to an extent that it's strange that they did research that says "the word "Start" helps newbies understand where to begin", and then about-face on that whole thing
but I don't think that having "Start" (the actual text) on the screen is the only way to help new users

they should bring back Clippy for Windows 8.1 and include him built into the operating system and compiled into the executable for the kernel so he can't be removed, then lock down everyone's system with secure boot so you're stuck with Clippy forever, and make sure he always listens in the microphone for "Hello Clippy" (like OK Google Now)

@Psycogeek honestly, on weekdays, I use my phone directly without tethering more than I use my desktop itself, because I'm so tired after work, and I use my phone exclusively for personal stuff all day; but on the weekends I play games and do development stuff on my desktop and ignore my phone
