20-12-24, not bad if you ask me!

11:53 AM
gotcha of the day: oracle's job submission API mentions that job interval & next date of running jobs are optional parameters, but skipping them results in job not getting submitted :\

hoeray!

12:26 PM
howdy all

hello ALL

1:02 PM
hi @DMA57361 & @tintincute

Hello :D

oh look it's Fruity Juice :P
and morning @MarkSzymanski

... fruity juice?

Lol xD Do you always address people using their personal domains @Sathya?

@BloodPhilia just you :P I quite like the domain :D

1:14 PM
@Sathya haha, thanks :D
@DMA57361 fruityjuice.nl is my personal domain

@DMA57361 check his domain
.. and beat me to it by Mr Fruity Juice :P @BloodPhilia

ok then, that almost makes sense

@DMA57361 I know right :D

@Sathya: You going to start calling me Mr. Minimalist now? XD

@MarkSzymanski: what does XD means?

1:17 PM
@tintincute: It's like a laughing face.

@tintincute It's an emoticon, similar to :D
The x forms the eyes

i see is this new? Oh my... I'm quite behind...
Thanks

Hmmm, if we're naming each other by our domains, I just end up NULL :/

Well, I'm off, bye everyone.

1:18 PM
Bye bye @Mark

cya @MarkSzymanski

@BloodPhilia: promoting your site?
i have to laugh about the charlie and apple factory
funny one!
thanks for sharing

@MarkSzymanski heh, yours is not fruity enough :P
@DMA57361 mine..remains... sathya.. sad

lol, least you get a name thou ;)

@DMA57361 :)

1:30 PM
@tintincute It's not that interesting really, it's more like a sandbox really

sandbox? what do you mean? @Sathya

wrong person @tintincute :p

Sandbox = an environment to test things (Like web development/testing)

ah ok...

incase you haven't heard

2:05 PM
I love SoS

1 hour later…
3:05 PM
@KronoS you can delete tweets ;-) simply tweet again with the link this time

@IvoFlipse what tweet?
Can you post the link to the tweet here? My work doesn't allow twitter, but i can use it on the iPod. It's just tough to copy the link into here

which doesn't exist anymore! ;)
It's finally here! #SuperUserBlog first SSD testing using a @KingstonSSDNow drive. http://t.co/H9lc7P1 Soon to come:RAID 0 vs single tests.
nice graphs @KronoS :D

thanks... took a really long time to collect and process all that data
you can download the excel file for more graphs/data

ooo, the SSD post is up?

well I'm currently under the challenge of writing a Roulette simulator... but darn that's hard :P

3:16 PM
@DMA57361 yep!
lol

...why a roulette simulator @IvoFlipse?

I'm reading: Building Skills in OO Design by Steve Lott
but he has all these exercises where you have to code it yourself
and I'm not sure if there are any answers :\

very nice @KronoS, hmmm at some point I'm really going to have to fork out for one...
@IvoFlipse ah I see

oh that reminds me! I've gotta get you a copy of UML @IvoFlipse I think it might help you with OO

@IvoFlipse well.... do you have a working Roulette simulator? If so then you've done it right ;)

3:19 PM
@DMA57361 I was a little hesitant about them myself. I didn't think that there would be a major difference... but there is.

I have not, so I have done it wrong :P

just wait til I show the results for the RAID0 vs a single SSD
the RAID doubled the single read/write

@IvoFlipse lol, oh dear :/
@KronoS you RAID'ed the SSDs? or pitted them against RAID'ed HDDs?

I raided the SSD's :)
It's what's running my desktop at home now....

so, speedy I'd imagine?

3:23 PM
around 500 MB/s read and writes

lol, nice

ya, and application starts and boot-ups are just blazing fast.
well time for me to head to school... l8r's

cya

oh man, if there's no code answer I'm not going to waste time on the book
I can't self-study if I don't know the answers...

...why not?

3:32 PM
because if I get stuck, there's no way of figuring out the answer

You don't get a correct answer when writing a real world program, so it helps you practice knowing when to recognised that what you are making is "complete"...?
Ah yes, a good point

meh
can't add a second drive to my Envy

why not?

there's no space
hang on, let me upload the pics

darn, turns out my head first book is about Java

3:49 PM
I don't like head-first.
Their HTML book was one of the course texts in my HTML beginner's course last semester.
It was so full of useless crap I couldn't find what I needed.

perhaps they're not all created equal @GnomeSlice

@IvoFlipse I'm sure it had the stuff in it. There just seemed to be a lot of...ridiculous stuff.

luckily I have more books than I have time to read @GnomeSlice ;)

1 hour later…
5:23 PM
"Boob" is the perfect word. The B looks like an aerial view of them, the 2 o's look like a front view, and the b looks like a side view.
Did anyone else try to play rock paper scissors against the computer?

That get satisfaction thing that a few sites belong to is funny...
but getting so annoyed over insurance... it is a bloody nightmare... and I can't drive until it is sorted :(

7:12 PM
What's so hard about insurance? You can phone up and be insured within a few minutes.

Evening

Hello]

Just picked up an email from a colleague: A supplier called back about a quote I had requested for an HP Storage Array Advanced Pack...
Message reads: Insite called about the Starry Dance Pack.

heh

Disco Stu is running IT!

Wil
7:42 PM
@paradroid I got a quote, when I went to purchase, they put the price up by over £100 for no reason

@Wil Just try another one then. There are loads. I had to shop around a few years ago as I had 6 points on my licence. I had to downgrade car for a bit as well.

Wil
@paradroid I have a clean licence but can't find anything because of my age... This place was £650ish and they were still cheapest adding a £100 - but I am not happy so am trying to complain for the lower price... next best place was £890... after that, all over £1000

7:58 PM
I pay around that myself

8:26 PM
Anyone have input for this one? It's been annoying me for awhile...

Q: Outlook 2007 SP2 prompts me to authenticate to Sharepoint.

IsziWhenever I open Outlook 2007 SP2, I'll get a username/password prompt that has our Sharepoint server's address. No matter which known-valid set of credentials I enter, it doesn't seem to accept them. I've tried including the domain in my username and omitting it, and going through past password...

2 hours later…
10:34 PM
@Iszi: Sharepoint? Note Exchange?
Hmm, linking Sharepoint and Outlook Calenders, new to me...
@Iszi: Is your environment in the Network & Sharing Center set right? Login dialogs can act differently or even not show up at all and just time-out if you have work/home set wrong.
When in doubt, always use the domani name, don't add the TLD (.local / .com / ...) though.
You could use Fiddler2, Wireshark, Process Monitor and similar tools to see what happens under the hood...
My first suggestion is a closely related problem that caused a Silverlight not to appear for my dad at home, he literaly had to set it the option to Home before it wouldn't look for the domain in the local network but rather over the internet.
Second one should allow you to track down where and what it is requesting and what files are being accessed or which servers are being connected to, might show something wrong.
For Exchange there is testexchangeconnectivity.com, I don't know such site for SharePoint.

@TomWij Network monitoring on corporate network may rub some people the wrong way. :-(

10:57 PM
@Iszi: Should be fine in non-promiscuous mode?

Good afternoon, everyone.

hello @MarkSzymanski :)

Hi, @IvoFlipse. How are you?

good, though I wasted a couple hours reading a book only to discover it didn't come with batteries...

What? XD
Why would a book need batteries, @IvoFlipse? XD

11:09 PM
that's a Python expression, that 'it comes with batteries', so anything you need to do is in the standard library (or something like that)

Maybe it's a best Cell-er (ugh!)

Ah :P

the book lacked code samples, to help me solve the assignments it had, so when I got 'stuck' there was no way for me to continue

Now, I just need to get my way up to 3000 rep :3

I'm stuck too, need OpenSSL for Python.
The setup is just hanging around there...

11:12 PM
@MarkSzymanski I'm at 4929 - looking for the 5K in a short while!

@MarkSzymanski: No, those that made that made a pretty dumb way of installing, at a certain point it launches new child processes...

Dang.

...which just sit there doing nothing at all. :-/
Hmm, hanging on a memset instruction, I guess DEP holds the deep child process from tempering the memory of one of the parent processes.
Why would they write their setup like that... :-/

where do you think questions about emacs belong?

11:16 PM
@valya: Super User.
@IvoFlipse: I don't get it XD
Ohhh

awesome! maybe even create a chat about it

Nevermind XD

depends on the question @valya, but they're mostly allowed on SU, so go ahead :)

I was lazy^Wtime-savvy enough to prefer asking a question over reading docs, so now I'm reusing that time to chat
there are two, actually:

Q: emacs, writing custom commands which use term-mode

valyaHello, I'm using Emacs and M-x term for a terminal. Since my typical workflow looks like this: edit some code C-x C-o to the terminal buffer (or C-x b term[Enter] or something) press Up key to use the last command press Enter to run it C-x C-o to go back I want to bind all of these (except t...

Not sure if this came via here originally..

11:20 PM
Successfully upgraded to SP1!

@nhinkle Did my work laptop this morning - wrote off about a hour of my time in the process!
Not noticed anything different except that the app I use to mount ISOs stopped working and I had to reinstall it.

woehoe @nhinkle
how's the lego project coming along?

We had our qualifier matches last Friday. Our team got the highest score based on robot performance in the entire section. Another team beat us by 1 point because, stupidly, classmates vote on the appearance/aesthetics of the bots, and the other team (whose robot did worse) got more votes, because theirs had silly decorations while we chose to spend our time on making our robot work well.
We still qualified for the tournament between the top two teams from each section though, which starts in 2 hours
So we'll see what happens with that

oeh! :D you should take some pictures
it's almost geeky enough for a blog post ;)

we have taken pics, and my teammate took a video of our qualifying match. i might post about it on my own blog sometime soon

Q: The Super User Blog -- now officially blessed!

Jeff AtwoodGreat job on the blog! After a call today with Ivo, we decided that the Super User Blog is now sufficiently awesome to be highlighted in the footer! You'll note that the blog link in the Super User footer now points to http://superuser.blogoverflow.com/ And it will correctly update to flag [ne...

btw an official announcement, our blog is going to be linked with the official blog link at the bottom of Super User
voila :P
> Also, a little birdie told me that Ivo might be able to officially subsidize hardware purchases for the purposes of writing a great Super User blog entry about it...

@IvoFlipse, nicely done!!
Hmmm. Now what do I want to test.
@KronoS is already doing SSDs, else I'd ask for that

A bigger, better Mindstorm bot! :P
I guess I need to refund my sandy bridge processor ;P

Hahah. That would be nifty, though maybe not as applicable to SU as to

in case I burn it through, while overclocking

11:30 PM
I want to test one of these, though I think it's a bit out of the SU price range: engadget.com/2011/03/03/asus-u36jc-review

well to put it differently, if you have something blog worthy that one of the sites can use, it's up for consideration

hmmmm
jeff's done a few posts on his blog over the years (like this one codinghorror.com/blog/2007/07/building-a-pc-part-i.html) on building his own PC, though it's been a while since he's done that. it might be fun to do a SuperUser blog post about how to choose hardware for a PC, then building it, then benchmarking it

Hello everyone.
I accidently unbanned myself again.

hi @EvanCarroll

well let me fix that for you @EvanCarroll

11:36 PM
don't think we've chatted before. why were you trying to ban yourself?

user30
@IvoFlipse Awesome!

Indeed @ThomasMcDonald, I actually believe you'll get some more work
because I hope to inspire some communities to invest some regular time into blog posts, just as @Kronos is doing

user30

I was just wondering why we got 2 comments in < 1 minute.

Why, why, why... :-(

11:39 PM
@IvoFlipse Can you add the blog feed to the blog room?

sure

@TomWij is the dll registered?

@nhinkle: Registered? Hmmz...

regsvr32  ssleay32.dll

11:42 PM
o_O

Same issue without C:\Windows\System32

weird

Please note that this is a 64-bit system.

maybe it's corrupted?
is that a system dll?

OpenSSL

11:42 PM
hmm
does reinstallation work?

I'm trying to do this:

Q: How do I install PyOpenSSL on Windows 7 64-bit?

TomWijTo get Scrapy working on HTTPS, I need PyOpenSSL, but I can't seem to get this to work. So, is there a 64-bit version available? I don't see one... Also, installing the 32-bit version and either OpenSSL 32 or 64 bit doesn't differ and gives an error: E:\Personal\Downloads>C:\Python27\Script...

I tried a lot of combinations so far.
I don't think it's really missing, it must be a hidden error underneath or something.
Some kind of mismatch, I don't know.
And I need HTTPS as I need to remember a session in my attempt to scrape TV information...

@TomWij Any other copies of that dll in any other folders (do a global search) that may already be loaded in memory?

A: Why isn't SuperUser on twitter?

Jeff AtwoodWe have many sites on twitter now. http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2011/01/twitter-question-feeds-for-stack-exchange/ Oddly enough "@superuser" is some kind of reserved username on Twitter, and we still haven't been able to figure out why.

@Linker3000: Checking...
@Linker3000: ... Awesome! ...
So, what do I do?
Close mIRC, remove/back-up DLL in both locations and reinstall?
Now it's hanging again, grmbl...

@TomWij Might be worth a go - close mIRC, rename both DLLs (if allowed - may need a reboot making sure mIRC doesn't load) and try reinstall.

Hmm, gonna see if disabling mIRC from boot and rebooting does help.
At least it helped earlier.
It seems that once the DLL is loaded or you tried the PyOpenSSL set-up once it breaks or something...
Yeah, indeed.
Okay, OpenSSL went through it all without a problem.
Bummer...
First successfully reads a couple of
> C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages\pyOpenSSL-0.11-py2.7-win32.egg\OpenSSL\ssleay32.dll
Then in the end it shows a NAME NOT FOUND on
> C:\Strawberry\c\bin\ssleay32.dll
That's my Perl installation, but strange it only looks there and ends looking further... :-/
